Mostly open and fun to see. This place really gives you an appreciation for how we live today. Lots to experience including the school, church, hotel, the home of the great grandfather of Howard Hughes and so much more. We saw blacksmiths in action and musicians and artists all doing their thing. Teach your loved ones about life and lifestyles of a day long ago.

Best place to visit if you are tired of all the urban disturbances and all the hassles of city life. This place is so peaceful and people working there are joyful. This is learning place and also a safe heaven where you can go, relax and enjoy the moment. Enjoy the peace, the beauty of history and lifestyle of the people before us. They did not have any phones or the facilities that we had, but they lived their life better than us. Feel the environment and feel how people used to live. They did not have much to do but they had a life full of love, friendship and family. I always go here whenever I can because it lets me feel and enjoy the moment. The prices are affordable and the lady in the reception was really helpful and informative. Be sure to visit the blacksmith’s house because it’s really beautiful and amazing.

What a fun little find! Learned about Texas and pioneer history and just had a nice stroll down Main Street! My favorite things today were watching the very nice woman spin yarn and learning (thank you again for answering ALL my questions so patiently) about shotgun houses. I didnt snap any pics...was too busy looking and talking! This is definitely added to our familys repertoire of things to do in Dallas!

This was a lovely museum. The volunteers truly have an interest in the houses they are showing. Some of the houses were closed, for renovations and changes according to the notices. The houses do need work but this is costly and gives all the more reason for more people to visit. It is a real jem and peice of history! I would love to go back once a few of the closed houses are open again. I would recommend going when it is not too hot as it is a good deal of walking outside although many of the homes have air conditioning. Enjoyed our visit.

One of the hidden gems of Dallas. A treasure trove of history. Great for kids. Giant oak trees provide shade among the ample green space for adults and kids to run and play. The historical farmstead setup provides a fantastic lesson of what life was like in north Texas 150+ years ago. Lots of farm cats and chickens still running around.

Best part of our trip to Dallas. Great value! We took the whole family and spent over two hours here. The volunteers/employees are knowledgeable and excited to talk about Texas history and the homes and buildings are in pristine condition. You really get a feel for life in Texas in the 19th century. Would highly recommend!! Also, great military discount if you are military.

This is the place I always invite my visiting friends and family to. A huge part of Dallas history right next to downtown. There are a lot of things to do and look at. A lot of things to learn. There are few sheep living there, chickens, a couple of American Mammoth Jackstock donkeys (the worlds largest donkey breed). Very cool place for people of any age. Open daily until 4pm (except Monday).

Totally a hidden gem in Dallas! We on our Pogo Pass with our 6,4, and 2 year olds on a perfect weather Saturday and stayed about 3 hours. Many of the buildings are open and full of interesting period items. The best part is most is hands-on! The kids loved chasing chickens, grinding corn, reading primers in the schoolhouse, drinking rootbeer in the saloon, running around the grassy fields... what a great excursion for all ages. Candlelight continues tomorrow night, December 15, 3-9 p m. in Heritage Village, a 13 acre park displaying 21+ buildings decorated for Christmas. The park represents life in the Dallas area from 1840 to 1910. I guarantee it will put you in the Christmas spirit!

DHV is a living history outdoors museum that offers an incredible peek into North Texas of the 1840s-1910s. The buildings are from Dallas and nearby N Texas and have been moved to what was formerly Dallass first City Park, which opened in 1876. Guests can go into the buildings, and, in most places, can also touch items, use the furniture. A couple of buildings are used as event spaces (weddings, parties) thus are closed, but that does not impact a visit. The Village also has donkeys, sheep, and chickens, and occasionally, you can take a wagon ride around the grounds. The saloon is open most weekends, and you can belly up to the bar for root beer, water, and coffee. Plan to spend 1.5-2 hours. The buildings are air-conditioned.

Took two house tours. Guides gave insight into the times and lifestyles of folks back in the day. From upper crust digs, to pioneer cabin to rooming house. Not to mention businesses of the late 19th/early 20th century. Dont miss this. Worth at least several hours.
