Incredible terrain. Imagining having to fight here ...at night ...really brings the history alive. So much sacrifice for control of this piece of land. A walk on the trails is the best medicine for the social distancing blues.

Kid/family friendly hike. The kids were excited to find the bear. The only thing I would’ve liked to of known in advance was that there’s a $5 per car parking fee.

This was a fascinating battlefield. I’m not sure if it’s because of - or despite its being state operated, but the property is superbly preserved. Great for a day trip from Atlanta. And not very busy at all!

This site is amazing to take a moderate hike in a quiet shaded forest while learning about history at the same time. We havent been in the museum but wandered on the trails and its a very nice place! Dont miss the log cabin, its not far away from the museum. We have met like 6 people in there. Peaceful and pristine.

Little gem in Paulding County! We visited this State Historic Site for the first time; it was awesome! Even though it is a smaller historic site, it has lots to offer from a museum, old cabin, lots of trails, events throughout the whole year, friendly staff plus reenactments and demonstrations. There is also a nice facility to rent for the day, that entrance is located off Hwy 92. Ranger John was very knowledgeable and friendly. Currently they are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9-5pm. Gate closes at 5pm. Ranger John did mention that they would be opening seven days a week soon for outdoor use only, meaning the visitor center would not be open those additional days. At that time an honor box system would be used. Currently, you must enter the visitor center to pay admission. The admission fee per person is based on age, see photo with that information. Definitely a nice place to visit. I look forward to making this my “go to” trails!

Great trails and good little museum. People working there were amazingly helpful and kind. I dont mind the $5 parking fee even though it would be nice not having to pay it. But its a small price to pay to ensure the preservation of those grounds.

Nice park, with good visitors center. My rating really reflects that, while trails are as advertised in terms of difficulty of climb, as a senior, I found them not well maintained, very narrow and very many exposed roots and rocks to navigate, not recommended for dogs as well for same reason. Add a star or two if younger and experienced hiker.

This is an interesting place the staff are certainly knowledgeable and kind. There are several trails so you can walk out into the actual battlefield. if youre going to walk on the trail that helps to have a little bit of background knowledge to know what youre seeing before you get out there... There are limited signs around what youre seeing what you got on the trails.the park does have geocaching and your Junior ranger program so if you have kids thats always a plus.

I had a few hours to kill, so I took the cabin trail and white trail on. It was a wonderful walk, filled with some gorgeous sites along the way. I cant say its great for beginners, as the latter half of the white trail can be steep, but there are plenty of benches along the steeper parts where you can catch your breath if needed. But, for just over $5, I fully enjoyed myself! I cant wait to come back and walk the other trails!

Disappointing historical state park. I like to feel like I try to transport back to the time and place, cant really do that here. Rudimentary trail map with waypoints marked but no explanation. Could tell budget isnt great here which is too bad, could be a nice place to visit.

We were first time visitors to Picketts Mill Battlefield and were thrilled with the personal attention we received from a park ranger by the name of Ed. After we watched a short film about the battle, Ed took us on a very informative tour of the museum and then took us out on a portion of the trail for close to 30 minutes to talk about all aspects of the battle. Yes - this historic site is not open every day of the week so check their open dates/times before you attend, and yes, they did charge a modest admission fee - but we have never received such personal attention and rich history as we did in the time we spent with Ed.

This historic site was the last successful stand the Confederates had against the Union before they reached Atlanta in 1864. 1,600 Union soldiers and 500 Confederate soldiers died during the 5 hour battle. Its website boasts that it is one of the nation’s best preserved Civil War battlefields and that mislead me a bit. I envisioned canons and forts and stuff, but in reality it is just woods with a couple open fields. The only structures are some crisscross wooden fences and some of the trenches the soldiers dug still remain. I guess that’s why it is considered so well-preserved – there aren’t any replicas of old artifacts cluttering up the landscape that so many men fought and died on.

I had a wonderful experience here! We hiked the white trail and some of the blue before it started raining. If course we were got and sweaty when we returned to the visitors center so that woman at the front desk put on the movie for us so we could cool down! After the movie we walked through the museum and were told to look down the barrel of the cannon behind the fence for a real surprise!

Been wanting to visit this place for years, always hindered by something. Finally made it with one of my grandsons. Awesome experience, made better by the fact the boy enjoyed it as much as I did. There for over four hours and still didnt see everything, but was led on 2 1/2 tour by one of the most impressive young men Ive ever met. If you ever visit this place, be sure Dillan is your guide! His tour was well worth the fee, which was only $3 for this old man. I would be happy to pay 10 times that much for such a treat. This is one of Georgias parks and historical sites which are at the top of the chart among the whole U.S.! These sites charge a $5 parking fee and some of the historical sites charge a token admission fee. Neither are enough for what you get in return. I am so thankful there are folks who labor so intensely to preserve the heritage of our great country!! And if you dont agree, get your sorry butt out. We dont need you messing things up for those of us who love this place!!

Great place on a weekday, hanging out with my homeschooled kids. Quiet place. We had a lovely picnic. The park ranger knew lots, we walked down one of the trails, and read the information packet about what happened in May of 1864. Nice small museum with a Canon that was used in the batlle. The ravine and slope the soldiers had to climb was spectacularly steep. We will definitely return. The park has Saturday battlefield tours that would be interesting.

I enjoyed my visit here. There are a few different paths so you can walk as far as you see fit. It was good to learn a out the history. The in house museum was usefull and hadany interesting displays. This is a good activity for a family, a couple, or an individual. There is ample shade to protect you from the summer sun, and parking is plentiful.

Its a really awesome experience! Nice people. Great historical knowledge. Learned a lot. Beautiful sights. My only complaint is them not yelling Fire In The Hole before shooting the cannon. I took my 8M old son and from a distance its still a strong shot. Being up close and even using very good noise cancelling headphones it was just to much. I even had an asthma attack because of the reverb from the shot. It was really cool if youre not a parent to a small child tho. I did NOT like it with a small child. That was this specific event though!

Its a shame this place doesnt get more money. This is a great park with an important place in history, which is made even more valuable by the constant encroachment of modern civilization in this area. Even when theyre not having some sort of presentation/tour/event one can enjoy the park, so long as one is prepared to do some walking.

One of the best preserved Civil War parks in the country, I have visited this site 8 times, finding something new each time. Being the only battle Sherman refused to allow be documented, it remained largely unknown until the 70’s. Untouched for over a hundred years, you can almost feel the pain inflicted on Union solders. Remnants of enfilade pill boxes, trenches and marching paths still exist. If you know about the battle of Kennesaw Mountain, experiencing this state park and learning its history provides insight into a level of incompetence in civil war troop command. Luckily the State does not improvement much of the battle field, leaving it is as close to what it looked like 150 years ago.
