We enjoyed the hike thoroughly. We enjoyed fall foliage near its peak on October 10. Our dog joined us the entire way and he was exhausted by the end but able to do it. Its a good climb up to the top and is sure to make you sore if youre not used to frequent hiking or other exercise. There are several views on the way to the top so if you want to stop there you can, but definitely worth it to get to the top. If you are coming from Boston, leave early (we left at 5:30am) if you want a parking spot the lot is not large and fills up early.
Fortunately I have quick access to this trailhead. First time up I didnt bring my 45lb pup who usually goes with me because I wanted to scope the trials out. Probably wouldnt bring him unless he had a harness. Absolutely recommend bringing trekking poles. Parts can be difficult and would not recommend for beginner hikers. Made it to the summit in an hour and a half but I was hiking at a good clip. Heavy cloud cover at the top, waited an hour had lunch but cover didnt lift. Maybe next.time, supposed to be fantastic views!
Absolutely spectacular, hiked it for 49 years, every year, all the trailer are great, the Champney Falls is breathtaking, the whole area is the best in USA, Im 76 healthy, and hike n.h. every week, camp, shop, GO! Dress the part, good ,,best hiking boots, be aware of your surroundings,Study maps, weather, it is one of the most hiked, photographed in USA. Read the history of Indian Chief Chocoura and the mountain named after him, I love this mountain, I have photographed over 2000 still shots,Now get out of that chair and get hiking, J.R. New England usa
This is an excellent trail to take to the summit of Mount Chocorua. You might want to turn off the main trail and hike the Carter Ledges Trail so you can get additional views from the Three Sisters. Regardless of the trails you take youll be rewarded with great views of the White Mountains. Watch for the Piper Trail sign on Route 16 because it can be tricky. The actual trailhead is behind some buildings so its easy to miss.
A White Mountain National Forest jewel. Mount Chocora can be conquered via this well worn trail.Spectacular views are your reward after a moderate exercise.Remember to purchase the parking pass in the spacious parking lot or buy a season pass at the USDA station located on rte 112 near rte 16.Lock valuables in your trunk... you never know.
Great hike! Last mile and a half is really challenging as there is fair chance of getting into real rock climbing off the trail. One of the best 360° views from the Summit!
The trail itself was pretty good. Its not marked very well and got lost for about 15 near the beginning but thanks to my trail app. I got right back on the trail.
Great hike!! A little hairy once you get to the top but such an accomplished feeling after getting there!! Could be marked a little better though
I was interested to learn that the road is not plowed all the way in to the trailhead in the winter. Instead a private land owner plows a lot and collects $3 from every car. This worked well.
Easy trail with amazing views at the end. Be prepared for vigorous hiking, and bring plenty of water.
Great hike with beautiful views ️
Very convenient trailhead to climb mt. Chocorua. Right on rt.16, and spacious parking lot. Parking lot is not plowed in winter, and so not available when snow is on the ground.
Will maintained, large clean bathrooms as well. There is a parking use fee at this lot
Stayed at the trailhead, was not murdered by a homeless person
What a view at the top.
Easy to find.
Spectacular views!!
It was a good parking lot
Great trail with an amazing view from the summit.
Scenic trailhead for Autumn foliage hike leading to Mount Chocorua. Practice on stairmaster in gym to climb the steep stairs. Leaves can be slippery for foot stability. Wear boot gaitors to keep your feet dry or bring second pair dry socks.
Easy to find, easy parking and great trail for running
Good climb
