This is a review for both Champney falls and Middle Sister mountain.Champney can be done within an hour if youre in good shape. The waterfall is quite enjoyable and I would strongly recommend preparing a picnic to truly enjoy this place.TIP: If you want to see the distant views from the falls, go to the top of the falls platform and cross over the stream then walk a little bit to your left and go onto one of the boulders. From there you can see the majestic valley and the mountains in the back!Middle Sister will take you another 90 minutes to get to the top. Bring snacks, water and hiking poles as it will definitely challenge you. The view from the top is phenomenal and worth the 2.5 - 3 hour hike.As always, if you see any trash on the trail please chip in and grab it and bring it down. Be a steward of this area!

Always love this trail and have been coming for decades. The views from the top are phenomenal as you have a full 360 view of New Hampshire and into Vermont. We brought our new bengal kitten up for her first experience and she made the full trek up.

We just did the Champney Falls loop and not the summit hike. It was great. 2hrs 40min round trip. Went with our small dog who did well but she is a fierce terrier. Beautiful falls great to stop and have a snack. This does get crowded. We got there at 8 on a Saturday and the parking lot was almost full.

Awesome but challenging hike. Quite a ways to get to any actual elevation gain but beautiful along the way. Took us about 5.5 hours round trip.

The moderate hike was indeed moderate. If you have bad knees when it comes to going down the mountain side, I suggest a pair of super comfortable shoes and knee brace before have.

Great hike for families and dogs. Amazing views of waterfalls and 360 panorama from the top of Middle Sister and Chocorua. Pack bug spray and wear good shoes. You will have to cross the Brook in a few locations as well.

Beautiful late fall climb on a misty foggy day - so none of the famous views, but even so, this trail never disappoints.

The 1.4 miles long hike to the Champney Falls really worth the effort to see this natural wonder. If You go up to the top, You can admire in the picturesque landscape of the White Mountains National Forest.

Highly recommended hike for those that are looking for a small challenge. It’s definitely not difficult more on the lower end of moderate in difficulty. It is a very popular hike so if running into other people bothers you just keep that in mind. The parking lot is right off the Kancamagus if you want to do this trail to Mt. Chocorua or do the other side for more of a challenge. Plenty of info and bathrooms at parking area. $5 per person to park.

Beautiful hike that follows a stream the entire way. Great hike for kids or dogs. Trail is well maintained and marked and there are many places along the stream where you could cool off by wading in. The view from the top of the waterfall is amazing!

Great hike. The loop is a bit longer and trickier, bit the falls are gorgeous. Especially after it has rained.

Review №23

Short and sweet. Took about an hour up and 50 minutes down. Once you reach the falls at the top, you can continue on to the Mount Chocorua trail if youd like. Easy climb in general, very little scrambling necessary to hike this trail.

Gorgeous hike that runs along a stream almost the whole way in and loops around at the top of the ffalls. Ascent to top of falls very icy - microspikes needed, but weel worth the view!

Great hike for humans and dogs alike. Plenty of stream/water crossings so be prepared to get a bit wet. We hiked it during the first week of November and there was already snow and ice on the ground. Parts of the hike would be challenging if youre not wearing appropriate shoes especially during the more steep parts near waterfalls (and especially given ice on most rocks at this portion of hike. Overall beautiful place to explore and even saw a black bear running across the trail (although would argue thats probably fairly uncommon).Easy and large parking lot at base of trail and great signage throughout.

Just under 4 miles round trip. Its pretty treacherous and steep most of the way with a nice pay off at the end. Took me about 2 hours all together with a few quick stops to take photos.

Very nice hike back to some very cool water falls. Its about a 3 mile round trip hike. Some spots are a bit unfriendly but overall it isnt bad. You do have to cross Bolling Brook at the beginning so that could be difficult at certain times of the year. Do need to be careful if the roots sticking up; can cause trips and falls. Trail gets wet at a couple of places which can be slippery as well. Only 1 other person on the trail while we were there.

The trail up to the falls is not too bad, but not worth it if you want to see a real fall. It is rather a steep river. There are better trails in my opinion.

What a great hike. Im not an avid hiker by any means, or in excellent shape, but was able to complete it. I liked that it wasnt too steep in most places and was not ALL uphill. However, the staircase was steep and the rocks slippery so there is a need to be careful. I dont believe I made it to top but I will definitely be returning to make sure I complete it. My roommate who walks the dogs several miles/day was too tired to continue. The view was so worth It!!! Cant wait to return.

When we went it was close to a drought so the falls were pretty much dried up.  The trail is alright, not to difficult, but its hard to know when youve reached the end point, at least when it is dry.  Our 3 mile round trip did not deliver as expected but people say that its nice when its full.  It is a pretty secluded trail so just be aware of that too.

Very nice trail. Easy climbing with kids. Make sure you have the money for parking in the trail head it is about 5 USD make sure you have it ahead of time and in excat cash. It had the least amount of mosquitos and most fun. Get good shoes and you need to cross some water.

Popular trail, snow packed down, to the falls, above the falls there was loose snow on top loosening the micro-spike grip, to the top of Chocorua. Falls pretty much iced up but mostly vertical.

I brought my boyfriend here to tackle his first NH mountain (trail leads up Mt Chocura). Its a great trail, not too steep by NH standards, rocky as always. The waterfalls were not flowing very hard, but were still beautiful. The trailhead is easy to find, and at mid-morning on a Thursday we saw other hikers around but not too many as to make it crowded, although I have heard it gets crowded on the weekend.
