Very beautiful place. The fishing area is serene and beautiful. There are many mosquitos and large spiders. Be careful not to walk into a spiders web.

Love everything about the Waccamaw River! Serenity at its finest! Many people have no idea this amazing place is a short drive from the beach!

I was very disappointed with this wildlife refuge. I drove here from Georgia, because the website made it seems as if it was a great place to view diverse wildlife. To start there were lots of motorized boats I could hear engines the entire time. The wetland trail was closed due to damage in 2015, I thought things would have been prepared sometime in the last 4 years. The trails that were open were short about a mile in length and, wide enough for a vehicle and were very worn down from bikes. The website was very misleading. The map showed large amounts of nature (they claim 22 acres) but the trails do not access much of it. Its a great place for fishing and boating but not for wetland nature viewing. There were some cute toads though.

The swamp is neither scary nor worthless but slightly boring. Nice short nature walk. Lacks wildlife and could use some maintenance and additional activities/informational guides. The website is misleading and the only wildlife I saw were small cute frogs.

Its one of my most favorite places to go its very peaceful and there are several trails to hike down with some benches to sit on along the way in case you need a break the paths are pretty clear of tree roots and other things you could trip over so its pretty safe

Looking to catch some fish? Then THIS is the place to go!Great place to take the fam!!! Jus watch out for any gators!!! And the snakes are startn to show themselves too! Saw a really long Black Snake 5 days ago & right at loading dock!!!!But even though with all that said, you will find that at any River you go just wanted to give a little piece of advice and word of recognition especially for anyone taking the children ️ ️ it is a fantastic place to go

There use of one inch plusstone on walking trails could cause injuries to people on foot. Also the boardwalk through a portion of swamp has been closed since 2015. Seems like maintenance is lacking. Also the area is void of any wildlife. Maybe the time of year? Great place to walk your dogs! See the park service driving around, but not anything else but leaning on shovels and talking by service shed. The park could use some attention! There is some trash and vandalization taking place that does not get the attention it needs. A shame really.

Not disliked, just boring. We were going down ICW on our boat but besides a few birds didnt see anything. We saw the tour boats stop & point out some nests in trees. We looked with binoculars & didnt see anythong in the nests. Of well, glad we didnt pay for the tour, just our diesel.

The visitor center is fairly new with a small museum with info on local animals. They also have some small live animals in another room. The trails right by the center are closed due to construction. Trails about 25 mins away are open at Cox Ferry Lake just south in Conway. Last year it was opposite when those trails were closed due to flooding but the ones by the visitor center were open. Point is to always call first or visit the visitor center before going on the trails. Anyways the trails were nice especially by the boardwalk. They have turtles and alligators. Also a guy we were talking to caught a blue crab and a catfish. Very nice.

A sign informed us that the boardwalk had been closed for 2 years. That was the main reason we went. We still walked a little ways on the Blue Trail, but stopped because a section was under water (even though it hadnt rained recently). Maybe, things would have been better if we had gone to a different section.

The extremely LOUD airboat needs to go. It disrupts the wildlife thats supposed to be protected. The boat landing is the worst Ive ever seen. Fix it right, or close it. The passengers on the airboat have to wear hearing protection, so what is the loud engine doing to the animals, so STUPID.
