The 4.9 star rating is misleading. First of all, GPS said it was 30 minutes away but it ended up taking over an hour to get there because it tried to take us through a gated community. Secondly, we drove a very long way through this gravel path until we finally realized that IS the preserve. Its just several very long paths, nothing super notable. When we finally got out of the car we walked a long ways. The trees were cool but I literally did not see one animal or carnivorous plant. I got bit like 20 times by giant mosquitoes and grasshoppers kept flying into me. So that was my experience. Maybe October isnt the best time but this place definitely isnt the best thing in the world like everyone else made it seem.
A very gratifying visit! I really wanted to see sarracenia in the wild and was ecstatic to find them growing along the road. It’s winter, so they are going dormant, but they are still beautiful and amazing to me. It’s a great drive, looking for other natural amazements. My 9-year old nephew was a little disappointed that he didn’t see a black bear. We’ll come back in the spring. Maybe he’ll have better luck then. This place, and the sarracenia, are a great find!
Incredible habitat in the midst of a very busy Myrtle Beach. Without this preserve the natural resources of the area would completely disappear. THIS is the best place to visit in Myrtle Beach.
Great place to search for life!
