Ol Herkimer, hes definitely a GIANT bug. Hes not as young as he once was but still a very handsome fella on the side of the road. He wont take long to visit but we really loved the stop all the same!

Make no mistake, seeing this glorious beetle will take about 10 seconds. That said, it probably will make for a decent photo op, and you can tell all your friends that you saw the worlds largest beetle. I wish I could get closer, but I have to love from afar.

Herkimer is MAJESTIC af! Theres even a small (8-car sized?) parking area right off Rock Creek Canyon Rd, and a path up to see him.

We didnt go to the museum, we only wanted to see the beetle statue. It didnt disappoint, it was a large beetle statue. Could use a bit of touch up paint, fun none the less.

The kids liked that you could get close to the beetle. At first, the 5 year old stopped in his tracks when he came up the hill and saw the giant beetle.

Hes falling apart. Needs paint and new material. Has closed and no trespassing signs on the fence around him. Can see when driving by on the highway and really thats all you need. You have to drive onto a rocky, jagged parking lot if you want to climb the hill to see him up close. Not worth the risk of flat tire or scraping the bottom of your car or getting ticks as you hike up the grassy hill.
