If it has ever flown through the atmosphere or space, chances are you’ll have the opportunity to learn about it at the Chico Air Museum.Located on Ryan Avenue, the Chico Air Museum is dedicated to preserving the area’s rich aviation past. Over the years, its collection has grown to include an array of aeronautical and aviation equipment and memorabilia that are engaging and educational for visitors of all ages.Of course, the refurbished aircraft tend to steal the show; they’re housed in an authentic World War II hangar at the city’s municipal airport. The museum is only open a few days a week, so check their schedule before making a special trip.

A unique and quaint gem set on a former Army Air Corps Base, the Chico Air Museum provides an opportunity for av-geeks and military buffs alike, and more, to learn more about the vast aviation history of Chico. Lovely way to spend a day visiting their outdoor aircraft display, surveying their extensive informational library and hearing stories from the many volunteer custodians.

Quaint little air museum located in a former Army Air Force hangar. Includes some special collections focusing on the history of aerial firefighting and smoke jumping. (Hint,Its good local history!) Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Admission is free but please throw a few bucks in the donation box to support the museum. They deserve it.

Pretty cool place. Id driven by a few times and thought it was just what you see outside but theres much, much more inside. Lots of cool stuff to see, and some displays are very hands on. My four year old son loved being able to sit in the cockpit and play with the switches and buttons.

Love this place. The exhibits and volunteers are amazing. My 3- and 5-year-olds really enjoyed the cockpit they could play in. This was also the weekend where they had the B-25 and B-17 flights and tours. Seeing and hearing those flying pieces of history was amazing.

Great local museum, this was my first visit and I was definitely impressed. There are a multitude of great displays on a wide range of aviation history as well as a cool space section. There are also several displays that are full hands on in cockpit experiences. All buttons, switches and levers can be operated, a nice change from a usual museums no touching policy. Was great for my 2 year old. Will definitely be back to visit. Volunteers were also super friendly and knowledgeable.

Very sweet volunteers, some with first hand experiences to share. Loved hearing their stories. Had 2 items young children can climb and explore. Most were probably too advanced for toddlers. You can watch airplanes take off from the airport on the side. Be prepared to have several volunteers speak with you and you may even get a mini tour.

Very nice museum. Some particularly interesting exhibits, including an A-7 Corsair. Its actually a USAF A-7D, but its being painted as a USN A-7E from VA-25. Other noteworthy exhibits are a P-2V Neptune, F-15, H-21, and AN-2 Colt.

Review №51

The volunteers are very courteous and attentive, but will also let you meander throughout exhibits as long as they know you know to not touch ANYTHING as some of the aircraft are maintained and flown regularly.Did you know they also have A NASA outer space exhibit inside its own enclosed, heavily supervised enclosure? They also have an enormous display of a locals collection of meticulously crafted model cars that spans the automobiles entire history to date. The most unique item on display, which is a feat of engineering for its time, Ill not spoil for anyone except to say youll know where else Swiss Army technology got its start, and youll be surprised and impressed by that display alone. My reason for only 4 stars might be a problem for some folks: if youre visiting mid Summer it gets quite warm inside that retired hangar and can be uncomfortable for anyone susceptible to heat. Plan to visit when its cooler in the day or year if thats you.Excepting that, youll have quite an adventure and lots of nostalgia. You might even get graced with a personal story or two from the guides all of whom enjoy their volunteer time with visitors and only ask for a donation of your choosing and to sign their guest book.Enjoy your visit!

This place is amazing. Lots of airplanes to view, 2 you can get in, access to the outside so you can view airplanes taking off and landing. They have peddle cars in the shape air planes, color zone for kids and a tv where they play the movie Planes and Planes Fire and Rescue. You can even sit in air line seats to watch the film. Ive been there twice this year and will be back again. It is free to go in and they accept donations.
