Beautiful park with wide, well maintained shady trails for hiking, open fields for sports, and clean bathrooms. Its nice to get a little workout with the elevation changes on the trails without leaving the city! This park also connects to a greenway for longer walks or bike riding.

This is a very busy park, especially with after school runners. Parking situation is tricky when due to practices being held. This may be seasonal?

In the last few months, I have been to the mountains of North Carolina several times. Specifically I have hiked around Stone Mountain North Carolina and South Mountain. They were great hikes, but I also wanted a local option. I have been to many of the different parks around Charlotte, and the issue I keep running into, is the trails either have too few sudden elevation changes, or they tried to fit a long trail in such a small area that the trail doesnt feel naturally made. This is not so with James Boyce Park. It is a true hidden gem. Many of the paths are unmarked for the most part. But that is what makes it feel like a adventure to explore. And it feels like your in the foothills, even though you are in the middle of the city. Some parts of the hike actually look like you are in the mountains (the small variety). Additionally, you are far enough away from the main road, that you dont hear cars passing by. If you are looking for a wooded trail, with enough ups and downs, to get your heart pumping, even if your not trail running, and you want a trail that doesnt feel like its going out of its way to make itself longer; If you love that sense of adventure that comes when theres a fork in the path, and your curious where each route will lead next, then James Boyce Park is the place for you.

This would be a five star review if they hadnt ruined the playground a couple years ago w the rather pedestrian and small and boring replacement equipment. But this lark otherwise rocks. Couple ball fields. A soccer field. And tons of nature trails. We ride the trails from our neighborhood to the park. Its a hidden treasure of Charlotte.

Perfect park with shady walking and bike trails- ideal for small picnics - safe for small children- had a nice senior citizen recite a beautiful poem for kids - that was the best part of our day!!!

Its a neat little park, tucked behind the school. If youre looking for a place to burn a couple calories or eat during your lunch hour, I would definitely recommend. Theres a playground, baseball field and public restroom as well as walking trail through the woods. Its very quiet despite the busy area - great place for those working in the area who need a moment to think.

Just a few miles from SouthPark you really feel like you are in the wilderness. Trails are well maintained but better for mountain bike than road bike. Better print a map and take it with you because you wont find them posted along the trails and there are not even any direction signs at most crossings.

Good spot, conveniently located that connects to McAlpine Park and adjoining neighborhoods. Plenty of paved trails and rougher single track, soccer field, playground, and a baseball field. Great place to hang with friends and family or get in a quick run.

Review №56

Warning! This is not a safe park to walk your dog.People use this park and ALL of its trails as a free run for their dogs. Dogs are let out of the cars in the parking lot to run free. dogs are running on the trails literally hundreds of feet from their owners. People will not leash their dogs when asked to. This is not a dog park situation where dogs are allowed to be free as long as they are well behaved with the other dogs within the fenced areas. And the my dog is friendly response is an absolutely unreliable answer and potential for fights and injury to the other dog who the owner has on leash by law.

Tucked off Sardis Road and adjacent to Charlotte Prep, this green, inviting space is great for biking, running or dog walks. The trails are well maintained, easily navigated, and lush. Moderate difficulty with decent elevations on multiple paths. Connects to the larger McAlpine greenway. Serene and relaxing.
