Very surreal, in a good way. We didn’t know what to expect and we found Red Oak II completely empty, giving us total freedom to roam and explore. The place is basically a recreated town, an open air museum of sorts. Wonderful fun!

One of Americas last true icons, Lowell Davis built Red Oak ll to be a quaint representation of his childhood hometown...Red Oak Missouri.Lowell was often referred to as the Norman Rockwell of the rural folk. His artwork is so typical farm life in the heartland, and his stories are so funny....I am truly honored that Lowell Davis did so much of the artwork on my distilled spirits. Lowell designed my sign and gates to Missouri Ridge Distillery......Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with the world, and Thank You does not begin to cover my appreciation for all that you have done for me and my business.....Cheers to you !!And cheers to all those who have made Red Oak ll a favorite visiting spot in Western Missouri....!!!

Probably the most amazing place to visit on all of Route 66 in Missouri. Years of effort went into creating it and now thanks to all the resident owners and investors we will be ensured that Lowell and Rose Daviss legacy will live on for many to enjoy.Plan on spending a minimum of an hour here. Please donate to their cause when you go.

The lifes work of a true artisan is preserved here. Historical record of old farm equipment, gas pumps, airplane and structures. The Birdsong building has a Mail Pouch sign originally painted by the last Mail Pouch Barn painter, Harley Warrick. Lowell Davis created a wonder that will appeal to all age groups.

We finally stopped in with our family, after wanting forever to go. Certainly was NOT disappointed, this place is AMAZING! Youre able to walk around the settlement at your own pace, but we met an incredible tour guide named Duke. Beautiful place, the settlement takes you back to a simpler, and enchanting time. The atmosphere is very serene, quiet, and peaceful..full of beautiful art masterpieces around every corner, and cranny. Its like a rustic and heartwarming wonderland! Great way to get out with the family on a little adventure, and make some everlasting memories Thank you Mr. Lowell Davis and Mrs. Rose for making this treasure, and sharing it with the community!

An out of way place that I am glad we stumbled on. This is one of the coolest places I can think of, a dream and creation from the mind of artist Lowell Davis. Its hard to explain but its a living ghost town (google Red Oak 2, to get a better idea). If youre a photo buff then bring extra batteries cause youre going to need them.

Its a neat stop for pictures and has a lot of old-style homes set up. According to a local we had talked to, some of the homes were lived in but supposedly all were open to be viewed. There were some buildings that were obviously lived in, but we did not feel comfortable attempting to look inside. Just taking a walk around we got plenty of pictures of exteriors and art.

I love this place dearly because as soon as I arrive, my head, soul and my heart quickly become intoxicated by an irresistible yet benevolent kind of magic that draws my mind away from whatever negative rut its been worrying about to lead it down a meandering path that leaves it basking in a child like sense of wonder accompanied by an innocent, awe-stuck curiosity about how this place came to be. Its got mystery. It arouses curiosity. It makes a smile appear. It stirs the creative part of me from its world-weary slumber. It relaxes the senses and bids an unbiased welcome to those seeking a momentary refuge from the insane pace of the modern world. I believe its a place that somehow exists alone in a quiet place that is hidden away from the chaotic world we live our daily lives in. Time seems to pass at a different pace here and a person is seemingly granted a gift that is the sudden ability to slow down and calmly appreciate the beauty that surrounds them. Theres no admission, there is a small art gallery full of unique and skillfully crafted pieces but I assure this place is definitely not about the money, its more about a man who wishes to impart a bit of wisdom to anybody who will take the time to take it to heart and I highly recommend that you do because I found healing there and I saw my worries become insignificant as they faded into the distance for the short time that I was there. Its a place that you can bring home with you and it can help you later on if you keep close by. If, while youre there, you pass by a house with a curiously intricate fountain that is made out of different sizes and lengths of metal pipe and you notice somebody sitting on the porch there peering out at you, dont be shy; wave, do yourself a favor and take the time to say hello to Lowell and ask him about how Red Oak II became Red Oak II. I wont spoil it for you plus its not my story to tell. Do make sure that you let him know you appreciate what hes done.*PLEASE NOTE*If youre not a respectful person please disregard Red Oak II; its not for you, you wont like it plus theres many other things for you to go enjoy elsewhere; I doubt youre capable of grasping the true worth of it anyway.

My dad and I stopped by Red Oak II during our drive along Route 66 from Chicago to LA. While walking the grounds Mr. Davis arrived home and was gracious enough to chat with us for a few moments. He was so delightful and proud of his work, as he should be. He plugged in the Plumbers Nightmare fountain for us and griped about the kids getting in and shutting off all the faucets and how he hadnt gotten his boots on to climb in and fix them. He then invited us into his home to see how us hillbillies live. Wonderful experience and we were so honored to have met such a man. Thank you Lowell.

Really neat place. Local artist Lowell Davis moved several historical and neat old country buildings here to save them and somewhat recreate the town his family helped settle. It is a small town of buildings that are fun to walk around. Some of the buildings are private homes now, but the locals seem used to people walking around and taking pictures of the outside of there houses. If you are lucky enough to meet Mr. Davis you are in for a treat. He considers Red Oak II as a giant piece of art, which it is. He says his favorite medium for art is things others throw away and this town proves that in big way. This town is art, a history lesson, and a fun time all wrapped into one. If you do find Mr. Davis or his wife, I suggest buying his autobiography There are no Memories in First Class It is the story of Lowell Davis art, life, loves, hardships, and triumphs. Exploring the town is free but there is a donation box. Just park your car at the front and walk around this town.

Very cool!! If your into the whole Route 66 mother road thing, then Id say you have to stop by this place.I found out about it because I was stopping in Carthage for an overnight stay and was looking for something to kill some time. There wasnt much info on it but I saw that it was free and open to the public any day of the week, and I didnt see any restriction for pets. I asked the clerk at the hotel about its location and she easily directed me and confirmed it being open. She suggested I go a little later in the evening when its cooler because there is a lot to see and explore. She also suggested I talk to the owner, because he will tell you the history behind the site and sometimes gives tours.Im glad I went and I loved looking at all the buildings, antique cars, and metal art. It really is cool and I wish I would have had the time to visit with Lowell to get the full experience, but it just wasnt in the cards that day. The only problem I had was at one point, I stopped my truck and got out to take some pictures, my dog was still in the vehicle (with his head hanging out the window) and suddenly, 5 or 6 little dogs that apparently live at one of the houses, came charging my way. I dont think they were after me, but they definitely didnt like my dog. They were barking, growling and agitated. In the ensuing chaos, one of the smaller dogs nipped at my calf and I had to scare them, to back them away. Once I got back in my vehicle and drove a little further up the loop things settled down and the dogs returned home. I guess its not really a pet friendly place for visitors with dogs. That experience doesnt detract from the overall appeal of this place, but dog owners be forewarned. I guess I was even more surprised that people actually live in some of the houses here. I wasnt expecting to find a community of people in a sort of ghost town. That was kind of a negative for me. Like another reviewer, I felt uncomfortable taking pictures and walking around someones actual residence. If I had known in advance which houses were occupied Id not have stopped to take pictures, but as it was, the houses were inner mixed with the town buildings along the loop so its kind of inevitable unless you only visit the first few buildings at the entrance. All in all its something worth visiting if your in the area and Id recommend it for those who want some neat pictures for your Route 66 adventure.
