Beautiful views at the end especially on the right side, but steady flow of visitors and only a few places to sit...We hiked in this easy trail over the weekend (about 2.3 miles round trip) with our dog on a leash. The woods are very sparse and relatively uninteresting as compared with some other trails, but the trail in is easy and pretty much level. When we arrived at the end, we had some lovely views across Maquoit Bay, particularly from the right side looking out from the rocks, but we ended up having to stand at the top most of the time due to visitors who honestly seemed oblivious to newly arriving visitors. On the left side, a woman sat on the rocks talking non-stop on her cellphone. Well, that was unpleasant. On the right side, a couple sat on the rocks for quite a long time obviously not realizing that visitors were coming and going with no place to sit and enjoy the view themselves in that we are all trying to be mindful of social distancing. There were two seating areas on the rocks (with social distancing in mind) on the right side - above and below. A couple walked down the steep dirt path to the lower area and sat there for a time with their dog on a leash. The views to the right are really spectacular, but its really not fun to have to give up on being able to relax and appreciate them. We ended up sitting in some brush at the top with an obstructed view and my husband found a small tick (one of the bad ones) on his pants leg. Thats to be expected in the Midcoast area. Im not trying to be a pessimist, but in this time when we all want to appreciate natures beauty and keep a safe distance, everyone should be mindful of sharing space. You could see the clammers very far out in the bay with their air boats. When they started to leave, the rumble of their engines was quite loud. It’s all part of the experience. There was steady activity of people walking in, some with dogs on leashes. No bicycles are allowed, but one bicyclist rode in on the trail. All in all, this feels more like an urban trail than a rural trail. This trail is one to appreciate at an off time. Hunting is permitted. Dogs need to be on leashes at all times. This was our second time. Im sure we will try it out again, but this time was disappointing. Solid 3.5 stars at busier times in the week.

A nice, relatively short hike with lovey views of Maquoit Bay. A great place to get outdoors to bring the dog for a leashed walk.
