It was a great tour! Today, Troy took us on a tour of the Chamberlain House and asked us if there was any specific time period we were interested in. I requested his post-war period and my wife asked for insight into their domestic life. We learned Joshua Chamberlain was very futuristic and thought 2-3, even 4 generations ahead. He championed military readiness, co-ed college enrollment, and redemptive/reconciliation minded government. I highly recommend taking advantage of this great resource and the knowledgeable docents. Go out of your way to visit! (During COVID, schedule an appointment)
A wonderful Museum to learn about the life of General Joshua Chamberlain. Wonderful guided tours, where you can ask questions about anything involving his life. The home is a great overview of his life as a professor, an officer in the Army, and as governor of the state of Maine. I highly recommend going to this Museum if you wish to learn more about him.
If you are a diverse of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlains, then this is a must see for you. The house, period artifacts, and family pieces are all spectacular and the guides bring to live the house museum. All so much information to a person of such good character and one who did so much for his country. This is a wonderful place to visit!!x
Hour-long tour is very informative and filled with interesting and fun facts about Chamberlain, his house and his family. Its a must-see event for adults and school-age kids. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Would love to go again if I had the time!
It was extremely informative! Love seeing old homes restored! Joshua Chamberlain was an amazing man of grit & integrity!
Rooms and artifacts were interesting (need more lights though). The docent was a very good speaker about Chamberlain, his wife and family, the house itself, the generals war and political involvements, and also Longfellow who had stayed there; no bias, well presented. May be hard on folks with mobility issues and some mustiness to rooms, but thats typical of museums. Over an hour of enjoyable local history.
Great history seeing where Joshua Chamberlain spent most of his life, a truly great American.
Well worth the time to visit. Excellent!
One of the best tours weve taken, and we take them everywhere. The docent was incredibly well versed in Chamberlains life and career, and knew much about the house which he owned from before the civil war until his death in 1914. There is also a very well-stocked if tiny gift shop. Dont miss!
Very interesting. Sometimes you will have a guide who does civil wear reenacting too. Very good, with the price. Would go again
Great tour... we really liked the setup. We had read the book Killer Angels and got to know Joshua Chamberlain well.Highly recommend.
My senior citizen mom says the stairwell was a surprisingly comfy place to sit while no one got her a chair for Fannys birthday party. The tours are nice, but they have no ability to organize events. My family and I had RSVPd for the Fanny Chamberlain event. The staff were disorganized, rude to us, unclear on the logistics when we showed up, had run out of seating, didnt communicate with each other, and didnt accommodate anyone in the group with disabilities that prevented them from standing for an undetermined amount of time. Some of us couldnt attend an event we had already paid and dropped of food for as a result. We wont be back.
Great tour, great experience.
I received a great tour! The guide was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
The guide was outstanding.
Easy access, comfortable setting, nice tour - about an hour in his Brunswick home, and interesting of you like Civil War history...
Great tour. A bucket Lister.
I did not visit the museum but was in the gift shop.It was nice. It really amazed me at how there was a museum for a man so influential in American history both in the Civil War and afterwards.
History matters
Okay museum. Can’t see the $12 entry fee though.
Must visit
Okay, but over all disappointing.
Glad I went!!!
Guided tour was disappointing, too much personal opinions.
