Christmas at the Birmingham Zoo is a great family time. The lights and displays are beautiful and definitely worth the time and price. The train was a long wait and we finally gave up and opted for the carousel. Due to Covid you get a specific time which makes it safe, too.

Always a good experience visiting the zoo. Lots of people today for the halloween activities but aside from the specific activities (the candy cave and the train) I never felt overly crowded. Great to see the animals and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The train was a 2 hour wait which wouldve been nice to know before buying activity bands, but we still got through the cave and the carousel relatively fast.

It was our first time visiting Birmingham zoo as a family for our sons 11th birthday and the experience was not so great. A lot of areas were closed off and some of the animals seemed depressed. The items were ridiculously expensive. I’m not sure if the zoo was trying to get back on their feet because of the whole COVID situation but there were a lot of areas that needed TLC. Maybe in the far future we will revisit but for now 3 stars is the best fit

I was very disappointed. We went for my sons birthday. We enjoyed seeing what animals we could or allowed to see. I know the covid is a big part, but if thats the case then maybe yall need to half the tickets. You look at the website and get so excited to go and when you go you are so disappointed. I would not recommend going until the covid is over. Its not worth going right now.

We went during COVID-19 so all the indoor displays were closed. The animals did not appear to be in excellent condition compared to the Birmingham safari we went to. There coats werent as good and they seemed a bit scrawny in comparison. They water environments seemed to have q lot of algae. I loved the flamingo display. It is a bit expensive and the only reason I could go was because they had free weekend for military and veterans.

Review №30

Overall, its a nice park. However, the experience was just not that great for me. There were not as many animals in the exibits as I expected. Shade is limited, so bring a hat, water, and sunscreen. The train ride is a gimmick, and not worth your time or money. Its a 3/4 mile train ride showing you the woods for about 10 minutes after standing in line with your kid(s), for an hour or more, waiting for your turn to board. You can only travel one way through the whole park and you cant go back after you pass an exibit. Face masks are required at all times even when outside, further than 6 feet away from others, and on the train. There are plenty of sanitizer stations throughout the park. The animals were cool, but a few were not visible or exibits were temporarily closed. That is a bit frustrating when you pay a lot of money to see the animals.

They are taking precautions for social distancing and requiring masks in certain areas. A good bit of the exhibits where temporarily closed, but the main animals are out. There are hand sanitizing stations. There is only a one way loop to walk, but you get to see basically the whole zoo. The current limitations are totally understandable as they are set to protect the health of visitors, staff, and animals alike.Overall, it isnt the best zoo Ive seen, but it makes for a nice day out with the family. We enjoy our time there!

Lots of exhibits are closed and many of the animals werent out. We purchased our tickets and wrist bands online as youre encouraged to avoid any extra contact. However, once we got there, we were informed that the carousel was closed. The train ride is just through the trees. Theres one spot where you can see the elephant, but thats it, so its not worth the money or the wait time. I was a bit disappointed overall, especially with the price. If you go, I recommend purchasing your tickets in person and talking to them about whats actually open and available. Also, bring snacks and drinks yourself as the drinks and some food are ridiculously overpriced.

We went late on a Sunday and there werent many people so you could really enjoy the animals. We enjoyed the zoo so much that we joined! I have grown up in the Birmingham Zoo even though a lot has changed since I was little it still is a nice place. They recently renovated the entrance of the zoo and it looks a lot nicer than it used to be. There is a lot to do in the zoo. We went today with our children and less than half of the exhibits are open. Very dissatisfied with paying full price for tickets with half the experience. The train ride was very disappointing. Other zoos I have visited the engineer talks and tells you where the animals are. On this train ride you really didnt even pass by animals, only saw elephants. We had a great visit to the Birmingham Zoo. The only issues we encountered were that the member entrance had a long line because they were signing up new members at the same time delaying existing members and they do not make it clear that to use the coupon book you have to get tickets at the main gate, which required getting back in line. Otherwise, we are super excited about the progress and the new exhibits coming soon!

Due to Covid, they set the zoo up as one big one-way walking trail. The line to wait for the train was extra long because of social distancing spacing and that they were skipping two rows on the train between each family. If you start early, you will end up at the restaurant by noon. (You dont have any way to backtrack) it is all one-way trails.

As much as they say “wear a mask at all times” they don’t enforce it. As someone who really doesn’t want to get the virus, I hated how they didn’t enforce it. The Zoo is very small, barely saw animals, and is overall just a big garden with a few animals.

Felt deserted! Alot of the animal areas were missing their animals and really never saw many workers. There wasnt any shows or workers giving informative information about the animals like you use to walk by and hear. If you needed a ticket to ride train or carousel, you had to go back up front - The ticket machines were out of use so buy in advance with your zoo tickets! Basically, the employees and animals all seemed like they hated life ... almost like they just open the doors enough during this pandemic to get peoples money to keep it running- which does make me sad too! One worker said something to one of the kids with us bc she touched the spider halloween decoration as she walked out the gate of the carousel ride.

The layout of the zoo was pretty cool. They put a lot of time and money in recent renovation. However, there were lots of exhibits in construction or just empty because of the colder climate. I completely understand the reason, but I wish they warned us before we bought the tickets. I would love to visit in the summer to see how the zoo does when everything is operational. The bathrooms are super clean. Also for guests, skip the train. All we seen was an elephant, which could have been visited on foot.

Nice Zoo they are constantly updating environments for the animals. Feeding times for the animals are around 10a and 4p. The animals are more active when it is cooler out. The zoo is also very clean, from inside the cages to outside of the cages, the walkways and the restrooms. The Cafe at the entrance has a good variety of food and snacks. I chose the veggie sub, it was delightful. The only disappointed time we had was at the Red Diamond seal show which is at 10 and 2. About 30 adults and children waited for the 2p show and at 2p two female attendants came out from the wall and threw a couple of fish out to the seals and had one seal wave to the small crowd. The so called show was over in less than 10 minutes. No introduction, or information or anything was said over the PA system. I dont know how they can call that a show. The train ride during Boo at the Zoo was enjoyable viewing the creative animated pirate theme characters.
