Lovely zoo!!! Best zoo in Texas. I also like the Austin Nature & Science Center, but here’s a list of reasons why I enjoyed the Austin Zoo:1) Almost every animal (I think except the prairie dogs) have a plaque that say where the animals come from. To animal lovers, this is a big deal. It shows that these animals were acquired humanely. They weren’t purchased or traded. They are all surrendered or rescued. This was a huge deal to me and I appreciate it so much.2) Fun interactions! I loved feeding the alpacas and goats etc so much, I went back to the gift shop for more feed! I went November 1st 2020 and feed costs just $3! That’s a great value for the fun and interaction.3) All kinds of animals- monkeys and large cats and birds etc. I loved the variety of animals they served4) All the animals had enrichment!!! Every single enclosure had toys or a fun way to feed the animals. The animals just seemed really well cared for5) They have a fun train. To ride the train was $5, and it was a fun little ride. Really nice if someone if your party wants to just sit down but still have a good time

We love visiting the Austin Zoo! Its a rescue zoo, meaning the animals at this zoo were either found in bad situations or were otherwise surrendered and in need of a forever home. We visited this morning and my young kiddos especially loved the monkeys, peacocks, tortoises, lions, tigers, bears, and parrots. We appreciated the measures that the zoo is taking for safety during these Covid-19 times (masks for everyone 2+, hand sanitizer and hand washing stations, efforts to reduce touch surfaces, etc.). Theres also a train ride for kids, and an area to feed goats, and they have various food trucks on-site. Its a fun afternoon!

I really enjoyed the wildlife rescue zoo. At first I was expecting a typical city zoo, but realized Austin doesn’t have a city zoo. This privately owned and funded zoo is doing a great job of providing homes for rescued animals. I enjoyed learning about the animals, but I especially loved reading about their stories. Some of the stories really tugged at your heart strings. I noticed they had some company sponsors, which is great too. They are doing a great job for being privately funded. If you need a place to sit while at the zoo I would recommend bringing a chair, because all the benches are blocked off due to COVID. They also require masks while outside even with social distancing so be prepared for the heat with a mask on. I would recommend bribing water. They do have a vending machine for water if needed. All the animals were well cared for and I felt like my ticket went to a good cause. Just come with the mindset of animal rescue and you will enjoy this zoo. Oh almost forgot they do have a train ride for $5 per person on top of your ticket where you can see more animals.

I’ve been going to the Austin zoo for years, and Ive always loved it. Its perfect if you have small kids- they have a petting zoo, peacocks walking around, an adorable train ride, you can spend a couple of hours or less and thats plenty off time to see everything. However, they have really gone downhill. The prices are ridiculous. I had no idea you had to purchase tickets online. They made my kids and I stand under a tree while everyone got to go through. I was finally waved over and able to pay. I felt like a naughty kid being punished. The bathrooms are closed down- two nasty porta potties. There is no longer much to see. I seriously don’t think you get what you pay for.

This is not your typical zoo , so if you get a chance to visit dont expect what you will find in the Bronx , San Diego or Cincinnati . This is more of a walk in the woods and its an animal rescue . I got a chance to visit looking for work and was surprised at what i found , Lots of nice trails that are well shaded and looks to be well taken care of . The animals there look to be happy , well fed and the staff was very polite and helpful. I will tell you to be cautious when visiting the lion exhibit ( The Males Spray ) So ... if you are in the area and would like a super time with the kids , go check these guys out ! The only reason they didnt get 5 stars , I was not offered the job ???

Well its technically not a zoo. Its more like an animal shelter for all types of animals. Its sad to see the big cats and bears hardly have enough space for them. They rely on the visitors for donations. A zoo should be a zoo like the zoo we know and used to. So please call it something else but the zoo.

I dont know what you call this place, but this does not look or feel like a zoo. With most of the animals out of view and seem to be out of commission due to overwhelming sluggishness. Keep out tape or red fence tape everywhere. All but one concession or vending was closed, with the only one being toward the end of the zoo exit. So assuming you dont want anything to eat or drink until the end. Oh and that will only be chips and drink. Lets also keep in mind visiting will feel a lot like driving though a ton of backwoods away from anything city just to get here. I feel like the zoo was an afterthought to the city.

I purchased 2 adults and one child ticket to the zoo. I never got my confirmation email. So I printed the web order confirmation. When I got to the admission stand the woman said I only purchased 3 child admissions so I would have to pay the difference. She said it happens all the time. I refused to pay the difference because I know what I paid for. She made a scene and called the manager who refused my admission unless I paid the difference. I WAS HUMILIATED. If this happens all the time you may want to look into why this is happening on you website so that folks who came to support your business dont get embarrassed at checkout. It was just poor customer service and I will not support an entertainment business who cannot understand that the customer experience is what you selling. I hope you know how sad that is for the poor animals you have rescued.

I took my kids to the Austin Zoo for the first time today, and I have to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised! It was great to see such a wide variety of animals, the grounds were clean, parking was easy, and the kids loved the goats! Having grown up in Chicago with the Lincoln Park Zoo as my frame of reference, I thought the Austin Zoo was fantastic. The zoo itself is fairly nice and has an array of different animals. However, if you are worried about social distancing, people wearing masks, etc., you wont find it here. Came here for my friends kids birthday and it was super fabulous! I enjoy going to the zoo, this is a different type of zoo than most people are used too. The zoo is smaller than most, but its also more laid back and casual to me. It is more of a re-homing facility for animals who have a long back story. They are definitely doing good work here! All the animals seem to be enjoying their time and they are getting love. I think it is much different than a standard zoo but its also different in a good way. It is a non-profit and to me I think they are doing very good things for the animals and educating the children in our area. I noticed it might be difficult to get around for those who have strollers and or wheel chairs, they gravel is a little tough and there are some dips and holes, but I dont mind watching where I walk. I feel like they are spending the money on the right things. I think its a great place to take children! The birthday party pavilion was great! It was very cool in there and plenty of space. The staff was super friendly and helpful! If I had kids Id bring them back here often, Id probably even take guests who are animal lovers here to visit as well! The parking lot is not paved, but we didnt have issues coming in a car. The Austin Zoo is a delightful rescue that houses a wide variety of both wild and domestic animals. You can walk around the facility and see lions and wolves or go to the petting zoo area where you can feed goats and sheep. I have gone many times because I enjoy the walk and being so close to the animals is something that many zoos no longer offer. However, I removed a star for the customer service. As a donor and patron of the Austin Zoo, I noticed that the restrooms could use an update. They are not well maintained, especially for people who bring small children and are looking for cleanliness in the womens restroom. I politely asked on Instagram if there are any future plans to upgrade the bathroom facilities and I was blocked. My inquiry was not offensive and I think visitors to the zoo should be able to ask these type of questions to a business they frequent quite often. The Austin Zoo should consider finding a new social media manager because blocking people who love the organization and want to see the animals on social media for simply asking a question is not good policy. I am disappointed that a page that has around four thousand followers would be so flippant in blocking those who truly support and donate as much as they can.

We loved this zoo! Its a nonprofit zoo, which is always a plus to us and they seem to take good care of their animals. I highly recommend feeding the Llamas, deer, goats and sheep! Super fun experience and inexpensive.

Such a n eww at zoo! You are fairly close to the animals and there is a decent variety of animals! This was a really great stop on our vacation! Everyone was friendly and informative at the gift shop and all the animals were active and happy!

If youre expecting a large zoo, like San Diego or Fort Worth youll be sorely disappointed. This is a rescue zoo, and its a good one. They have a pretty good variety, you can feed some of the animals, and they have a mini train ride around the zoo. A really great place for families with small kids.

We love the Austin Zoo! We are from out of town. When we visit my sister and brother in law, we always come to the zoo. And support there efforts in the care of the animals.
