This was the perfect socially distant adventure. The general store had a few fun selections of snacks, books, and more. We had a chance to talk to some of the staff who shared some great stories with us. This cute property tucked in a quaint neighborhood felt like escaping the city, but without the drive. I loved getting a chance to learn and see some of the history of Texas, and Austin. While all of homes and displays were nice, my favorite part was the beautiful grounds and trail near Walnut Creek. The tall oak tree had such a great atmosphere, I could walk around there all day. What a nice escape. Recommend coming with a friend or two, bring good walking shoes, and a camera and explore.

Nice day trip place. Several authentic structures around the property. Much larger then it first appears trails take you to the creek and some barns and a local native American camp set up. Some farm animals around, small gift shop/general store. Also offer workshops and their is a working blacksmith shop on site.

Beautiful small pioneer farm with a variety of services that by many accounts are of quality. Though, this review is in regards to the business / management side of this, and serves as a warning. I had purchased a woodworking course for the next day in October, when attending it was seemingly cancelled, and I was informed to request a reschedule. I had not rescheduled as I was unsure of my availability, and I was Automatically rescheduled for their next class 11/7. I did not attend this class, but contacted the company for a resolution. From here, they refused to reschedule further or provide my funds back, as a matter of policy even considering the situation. All in all, you can plan a great time at Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms; but dont expect flexibility here.

Horrible to charge $20 a person for Halloween on the 24th this year. I was very disappointed . The ghostly walk on the trails was nothing but lights in the trees. It could have been done so much better even with the Covid scare it was all outside. I came all the way from Fort Worth to Austin expecting so much more after attending the one 3 years ago.

.Food was mediocre. The guacamole tastes like wholly guacamole. My chicken verde enchilada was soggy and falling apart in the plate. When I told my server about it he insisted I speak to a manager. After telling the manager I wasn’t happy with my meal he didn’t do anything to try and make it better. He instead made me feel like I was an inconvenience to him.

My visit was during a school tour... it was a nice snippet into early Texas history that is close proximity to the city. They have a handful on homes/structures that show different levels of class, a beautiful dance hall and a few other building typical in a town square. There is a general store to get some old time candies, snacks and drinks. Also had a few Teepees and history of Indians that were once here. Even had some animals to look at (chickens, donkeys, horses, and Longhorns). Overall a nice easy tour.

Amazing tour of US Pioneer history. Also some buildings contain small exhibits. The Pioneer village leads you on a 3/4 mile trail, that loops back to the main building. Along the trail you can explore what a farm in the 1800 would have looked like in the woods, complete with chicken coop and love chickens, horses and donkeys.Overall the working blacksmith was my personal highlight, with the option to sign up for blacksmithing classes.

We love this place. The staff are wonderful the houses, land, and animals make it a charming educational experience. They have a lot of great festivals and things out here too. Experiencing the old west and getting that more hands on knowledge really helps the kids understand history. Plus, after the Blacksmith heard my son was doing a report on Laura Ingalls Wilder, he made him a spoon in 10mins for him to add to his report time pod.

They hosted the Austin stop of the Jo Jorgensen for president 2020 tour on super short notice and were extremely helpful. The place is awesome, if you love history or even just want something to do thats a little off the beaten path Id highly recommend checking it out. There are historic buildings brought in from all over Texas, set up to be a good representation of the period that was their heyday. They also teach blacksmithing. They even saved an 1840s freedmans home from demolition in South Austin and brought it up there - you can tell they are passionate about history and offer guided tours or you can wander by yourself. Theres a general store for snacks and drinks.

We just loved this place so much!!! Animals are beautiful! It was very affordable. But the day we went it was a little slow. There was only one class going on, so Im glad it caught the nephews attention: a Blacksmith workshop. They were making knives and tomahawks! So very cool. We loved all the animals and had a very nice time. Some things to add, more people dressed in appropriate time period clothing, teaching things like ice cream making, sewing, stacking wood, building a fence, egg gathering, lots of ideas, and people could sign up online for classes and pay small fees to do one or two, or buy a day pass to do all of them getting one or two free.Would be GREAT!!!

This place was cool and did a good job of engaging with the kids. There was no food, which is never good. Also I have been to many historical places in Texas and it is just mind blowing to me that thousands of African American people who were held as prisoners/property(enslaved against their will )in the early and mid 1800s and helped build Texas economy where cotton was king and were a key factor in The civil war yet there is never any mention of this or African American people at any historical museum(like this one) ??? Why?? It is supposed to be educational and historical.

I was excited to bring my child to the same place where I experienced how awesome this place was. We got here a few minutes after 10, the store still closed. We went into the building next door to see what was in there just in case someone was running a little late. Came back out, still no one. Waited until about 10:20 and the only sign of an employee was a man teaching a class. I decided to walk around just to see if there was anyone else that could help, also since it’s just a self guided tour, and it was a ghost town. At 10:50 we decided to leave since we had no direction or idea on where to go, as we were walking out someone was finally walking into the store with lights on.They have a bunch of neat old houses and history throughout, but definitely not worth the trip we made out here. Expected to see more people dressed up, maybe talk to some people about the houses. I didn’t see anything on the website about it being a special day or anything. Letdown.

Its a pioneer farms sort of setting. Older homes from the 1800s, some still being restored, other you can enter. I like both the Bell House and the Kruger Farm. There is a general store you can purchase items from. I mostly just wander the grounds, looking at the old horse drawn farm implements and talking to the horses. They have donkeys, longhorns, and chickens. If you get to see the donkeys, they like to be scratched behind the ears.Great place to just visit, wander around, and relax. Our children, ages 3-12, and I had a great time here! We stayed for about 3 hours and took our time reading most of the plaques. Our children loved that they had things like washboards and items of clothing to play with, as well as fun places to explore like a barn, several houses, and even the upstairs of one home. They loved being able to see teepees, and put themselves in a place where others lived years and years ago. They also enjoyed seeing the outhouses, blacksmith shop, donkeys, chickens, roosters, longhorns, and horses. I appreciated that there was plenty of room for them to run, play and explore, and that volunteers took their time to talk to our children and help them learn. I also appreciated that they had multiple restrooms throughout the property so anywhere we were on the property, we were close to one. If youre going to picnic, know that most of the tables have no shade. We ended up going back to our car to eat and then returned to finish our time on the property. Parking is on the property and very close and easy to access. On the day we visited there were several tour groups. Rather than get in the mix of trying to look at a property along with 20-30 other people, we would just take a break to look at the longhorns and go to the bathroom to allow the group time to be done, and then we had it to ourselves. We only had to do this once and it worked beautifully, giving us some space from the 8 other groups that were touring while we were there. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, and we found this to be a great escape from our fast-paced lives.
