Wonderful little State Park offering everything from kayaking & hiking trails to camping etc. The camping experience includes choices ranging from primitive sites to cabin rentals and everything in between. Note: some cabins offer a beautiful overlook of this gem of a lake. Fall is my preferred time of the year and this park does not disappoint when it comes to viewing the spectacular array of color.

Great campground. Very shady sites available with nice old trees. Plenty of room to camp. The lake is quiet and the beach was pretty good too. Not much bad you can say other than there wasnt any soap in the restrooms. The sign said it was on backorder.

Nice lake, very laid back. You can have big boats, but can only go idle speed, which is a little too slow of pace! Very nice for kayaking and paddleboarding tho. Apparently you are not supposed to swim there either.... really dont understand that one, as it has a beach!! However... everyone was swimming today because it was hotter than hot! The water was 88°!!!

A great example of an Ohio State Park. The facilities and campgrounds were clean and well organized. The lake was beautiful for swimming and boating. The price for a campsite is very reasonable. Overall no complaints at all. A very nice way to get out of the house for a few nights or if youre lucky enough, an extended stay. Good job Ohio Parks!

We camped here the weekend of 10/9/20 and while the campground was fine and the scenery beautiful, we had an extremely creepy experience where a stranger attempted to separate my husband from myself and our small children near the Lotus Cove trail. The incident was reported to the authorities and I am posting here as a warning to other families to be careful in isolated areas of the park.

I love Cowan Lake State Park for camping!!! Ive been coming here since I was a kid and, to me, its still THE BEST!!! Large sites so you dont feel like youre on top of the next camper, quiet nights, wonder shower and restroom facilities and friendly people.

Nice lake with sailboats, pontoons and a kayak launch on the beach. Shallow water so kids are safer going out farther. Downside was the gritty, rocky beach and some bigger rocks out in the water. Really need to watch where you are stepping for that reason and because of so many geese. Although animals are not permitted on the beach there were a lot of dogs on the beach and in the water.

Spent 2.5 days there at one of their cabins. The cabins, though dated, were comfortable. The a/c was very good and kept the cabin cool. I went fishing and it was fun. The only complaint I had would be the mattress. It was not as firm as I am used to. They could also sometime in the future provide internet access. Other than that it would go back again.

Love camping here. Although it is unfortunate that the ash trees had to be removed, the park is still very beautiful and well maintained. Several nice play areas for children too! The trails are also nice and well marked. There are many free events throughout the year as well. Very enjoyable!!!!

Great morning to be kayaking on the lake. All covid 19 protocol followed here. Camp store closed but can buy ice and firewood at front entrance.

Review №25

Lovely small lake with some parks, playgrounds and shelters scattered around. More of a fishing lake than a boating lake since there is a 15 horse power limit. Hopefully they can get a grant or something to help eradicate the lotus flowers. While they can be pretty, there is a section that is just over run with them so you cant take a boat in there. They have managed to keep them at bay but eradication seems unlikely.

Hard to judge actually, everything was closed down due to the covid 19 pandemic. Looked like a nice place from what I could tell by the entrance area and buildings. Was interested in the cabins, have since looked them up online, they look awesome, looking forward to renting one if possible this year. Stay safe & healthy everyone!

We camp here often as its not too far from our house. This year the campground seems a little more worn down, maybe its because we have camped at so many other places in the past year that we have more campground experiences to compare it to. Its still better than Caesars Creek Lake SP, but only because its more wooded, more shady. The bath houses are atrocious, seriously in need of an upgrade, probably the worst Ive ever seen. Campsites were muddy, some had straw spread on the ground to counter the dirt/mud conditions, and ours even had a second fire pit that someone built instead of in the designated fire ring. Who does that??We like kayaking on Cowan Lake as its a limited horsepower Lake, so no powerboats or jet skis, this is probably the best thing about this place.

Eh it was alright. The Ohio State Park website is not super user friendly and you must use this site or call to reserve your spot. Also, the beach area is over ran with geese. Their poop litters the entire beach. I also had a racoon steal an unopened bag of marshmallow off the picnic table when I ran to the bathroom. Sneaky little dude stole my smore glue!

Very serene. Medium sized manmade Lake as far as Ohio Lakes go. Lots of sailboats. Great place to take a rowboat, go fishing, or just float on the lake. 10hp limit for boats with motors and no alcohol permitted. One important note, there are no trash bins, so plan to carry your trash with you. While littering is always wrong, the beauty of this park would make even the most apathetic person feel intensely guilty for such an act.

One of the smaller state parks, has plenty to do but less than some others I visit regularly. The park is definitely among the cleanest Ive seen though! The lake has a horsepower limit on boats which both kinda sucks..but is nice too. On the bad side it means I cant bring my pontoon here, not like I can really get on it and fly, but anything over 10 is a no go unless you have a dinky motor or a trolling motor ...just go to Caeser Creek on the other side of 73. On tbe other hand, kayaking at the lake is beyond amazing because of how calm the water is. Most definitely recommend it.The campground here is fantastic too, clean and full of trees for shade. It actually looks like a woodland area, not just grass with paved spots for campers and a fire pit.

Its a beautiful place. Its really starting to improve since the emerald ash borer debacle a few years back. Theyve remodeled the bathhouses, planted new trees and gave the play equipment a nice face lift, as well. I highly recommend visiting the lake and the hiking trails, too. It will not disappoint!
