Nice hike. Full sun most of the way so plan accordingly for your abilities and the temperature. Nice views on the valley on the first stretch and the trail ends at the oasis. Still a little water left at the very end of November.

A wonderful hike up from a sizable packing lot. The hike up to the pass can be a bit challenging especially when the sun is way up. There is no drinking water at the trailhead and in the oasis. A gradual decent to the oasis that’s full of life. Some cascading water pools might be naturally muddy but still plenty lovely. Highly recommended.

What beautiful sights, like youre on another planet, wow. Trail is not easy and seems longer than the 3 miles listed. Many times you need to criss cross 4 feet to gain 2 feet on the path. A great leg workout! When you finally reach the palms, its magical.

One of my favorite hikes in all of JTNP. have taken several groups of friends and family over the years, and it never disappoints. Its a moderately strenuous hike with a good mix of up and down elevation change throughout. The big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is the Oasis at the end of the trail which provides a much-needed respite halfway through the hike with plenty of shade mature palm trees and water. It does get really hot and there is almost no shade until you get to the oasis, so plan accordingly with lots of water and sun protection. About 3 miles round trip, plan for about 2-3 hours from beginning to end.

I did about 2/3rds of the trails in this park and this was one of my favourites. Great views on trail and the Oasis itself was worth it.

This was a great trail! There were switchbacks, elevations, and descents. Nothing too strenuous for an expert novice like me. The trail was clear, which is helpful for me because I tend to get caught up in scenery and lose my way. The oasis was spotted from a distance and I had my mind set on the goal. Once at the oasis, I was amazed at the different landscape all around me. Nice to chat with fellow hikers too

Easy access from Hwy 62. A restroom is available at the trail head. Steep climb at the beginning of the trail. Love the boulders formation and the red barrel cacti. When you reach the oasis, you are rewarded with a beautiful sight of palm trees. This trail is kids friendly.

The hike is my favorite in Joshua Tree. It starts with great views. It’s 1.5 miles in one direction. Took us about 2 hours round trip. It’s a bit steep, but not much. There is almost no shade on the trail, so it’s better to come earlier. The parking is decent, there is a bathroom with no running water. The destination is amazing. It’s a real desert oasis. The contrast is unbelievable. First you go along a hot desert with no shade and not much vegetation. And then you get to a place with tall green thick palm trees , lots of bushes with birds (!) and even small water pond!Note that you don’t need to buy a pass to the park for this hike. And it’s very close to Twentynine Palms town.Overall, highly recommended. Another oasis hike in Joshua Tree National Park, Lost Palms Oasis Trail, is also interesting, but not as impressive as Fortynine Palms.

The oasis with all the native palm trees is truly wonderful! Mind you that the hike to it is not so easy. It’s feasible but still kinda hard. Make sure to wear good shoes and plenty of water! Also try to go when it’s not too hot, early morning is the best. It’s around 3,5miles round trip. All in all something for your to-do list!

Great public trail that is approximately 1.55 miles from the parking lot to the turn around point. As a loop the trail comes in at 3.1 miles and has about 750 plus feet in elevation changes over the course of the trail. Be sure to wear good running shoes with proper support as the trail features lots of gravel, sand, loose dirt, and large uneven rocks. Great for a walk or a run but remember it is single file for majority of the trail, provide room to be passed or to get past people going the opposite direction. Great views at sunrise.

DO NOT PARK HERE. Be very careful here. Our rental got broken into along with another car in the lot while we were hiking. They broke a window and stole all of our luggage. Go on a trail in the paid park instead.PLEASE HEED THIS WARNING. The cops unfortunately couldnt show for over three hours since they are under staffed and twenty nine palms has a high crime rate. This happened to other tourists four weeks prior, which all were out of country and lost everything including their passports.

A beautifully breathtaking hike with an extremely rewarding view at the end. This was my first time seeing an oasis in real life & its a completely unique experience. Be prepared for a moderately strenuous hike, & bring plenty of water. It really does look like a dream as you approach the lush vegetation in the middle of the desert. There are clear signs informing visitors not to trample the sensitive ecosystem, yet I still saw a few hikers walking directly into the oasis, disturbing the wildlife, & trampling the delicate vegetation. Unfortunately, some of these rare palms have peoples initials carved deep into their trunks, however that doesnt distract from this sacred spot. Please abide by the signs & stay on the trail. Please leave nature as it is.

The Fortynine Palms Oasis hike is one of the easiest to access for visitors in the Twentynine Palms area. It is a favorite with locals to exercise and enjoy the desert. If you are here in the spring when the Encelia (yellow Brittle Bush) is blooming you will be treated to hillsides of flowers. The initial climb is steep but the view is worth the effort. It is a spectacular vista into the valley. The natural oasis is the destination inside the canyon intersecting two earthquake faults. The native palms trees provide shade and you will enjoy hearing the wind in the palm fronds with singing birds. Make this a destination if you want to experience the Park and have limited time to explore. The parking lot is literally just minutes away from downtown yet provides a wonderful hike into the Mojave Desert.

As an avid hiker with less avid hiking friends it was a nice hike. The ending was a little lackluster from what I was expecting after doing the oasis hike out in Anza Borrego. With that being said, it was a great hike to take out my group of 6 friends of varying hiking experiences on. Plenty of beautiful views. No fee to enter the park since its just north enough for no ranger station. We did this as a part of my birthday trip to the desert. We had so much fun my friends wanted to go back we just couldnt time it out. Good for all skill levels. Make sure to bring enough water in the warmer months because there is no shade and I can imagine it getting quite hot. I would have preferred to have an extra layer during our visit in February, but survived in workout leggings, a tank top, and a thin scarf where we finished our hike during sunset. Easily shared my average sized water bladder with a friend with extra water leftover at this time of year. There were people swimming in the northern part of the oasis, but you shouldnt join in. Its a sensitive biological area as all the signs say. Please respect nature so future visitors can also enjoy it as well. There are natural springs all over SoCal you can enjoy if thats what youre looking for. Stay on the trails and have a great time in nature!
