Was fun to see the architecture and Victorian style and colors. I expected more color though. For some reason I thought there was a pastel pink ..other than the blue, in the sun, they all looked the same..different shades of yellow except one olive drab green. Pretty though. Alamo Park was nice to walk around

This is one of the most famous sights in San Francisco in part because it encapsulates the city so perfectly. You have the lovely Victorian houses, the hillside views of downtown, the open park spaces (which we love!) and the great atmosphere of the city. Its just a wonderful spot in the city to sit and enjoy! If you want to visit the Painted Ladies, you can take a Muni train (the N-Judah line) to the Duboce & Noe stop, and its a bit more than a 10-minute walk from there just up to Alamo Square Park. And whats great is that the San Francisco government recently upgraded all of Alamo Square Park, which makes it even better to visit. So grab some lunch (and maybe one of the wines or cocktails to-go) from one of the many awesome restaurants that are struggling in the city, bring them up to the park, and have a great afternoon!

There are many houses in San Francisco city which are similar to the painted ladies to be honest. But the painted ladies is special as they are a series of similar looking houses painted in different t color which stands out from the rest of the houses around. You will get the best pictures from the park opposite to the painted ladies. It was good to see them but not a must when you visit this city. Insta: nomadic_mandeep

Ahh...The Painted ladies. They are Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings repainted, starting in the 1960s, in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details. Theyre only famous because of postcards, movies and tv-shows. Its located between Hayes and Grove street. Street parking only. IMHO, theyre good architectural house structure nothing more.I can’t imagine living in those houses where there are people constantly hovering around to take photos. There goes your privacy out the window. lmao! Once arrived you will spend no more than a few minutes to enjoy the view. Overall, its a good tourist scenic spot.

The Painted Ladies are iconic row-homes that sit directly across the street from Alamo Square Park. They were some of the few things left standing after the fire of 1906. And were the location of the T.V. Series “Full House” and the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. If you’re driving, you may have to look carefully for a spot. But you just might be able to hop out of your car just long enough to take some amazing photos! There are some phenomenal panoramic views of the amazing city of San Francisco from the area.HEADS UP: If you plan on taking a tour bus. Tour buses and vans with more than 8 people are banned from driving near the area. So you will not be able to see it from the bus. However, two companies offer Hop-On/Hop-Off service. My wife and I have done both and feel the Big-B Tour was much better overall (number of buses, sound quality, bus quality, etc.) than the Deluxe Tour.

The hillside views from Alamo Square Park help make these beautiful homes a more perfect landing spot for a visitor like us. Our grandkids were excited to see the legendary Full House opening set in the backdrop of my amateur blog from the busy location. But we were just as fascinated by the brilliant skyline and the magnificence of the city views. There were a constant flow of visitors while we were there, but everyone was respectful of each other and the house occupants. We visited this San Francisco landmark on a Monday around 11am PST. In American architecture, painted ladies are Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings repainted, starting in the 1960s, in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details. The term was first used for San Francisco Victorian houses by writers Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larsen in their 1978 book Painted Ladies: San Franciscos Resplendent Victorians.Although polychrome decoration was common in the Victorian era, the colors used on these houses are not based on historical precedentSince then, the term has also been used to describe groups of colorfully repainted Victorian houses in other American cities, such as the Charles Village neighborhood in Baltimore; Lafayette Square in St. Louis; the greater San Francisco and New Orleans areas, in general; Columbia-Tusculum in Cincinnati; the Old West End in Toledo, Ohio; the neighborhoods of McKnight and Forest Park in Springfield, Massachusetts; and the city of Cape May, New Jersey.
