A must must visit for any student of construction Architecture. Heritage light house now converted into a museum. The exhibits keep changing each time. The view from the foot of golden gate bridge is too beautiful. I highly recommend this place to people who love the golden gate bridge, as this is the closet point outside the bridge. Enjoy the scenic views from the top of the building. Take a walk inside the vaulted spaces and the spiral staircase. The building is the wheelchair friendly.

Fort Point is a gem! You can see the underside of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Pacific Ocean. So glad the builders of the bridge were able to build around the fort and preserve it. Use caution when driving down to the fort. It gets very busy with people trying to take photos! Apparently there is a good surf spot at the point so you can sit and watch surfers scramble up and down rocks to get to the surf.

A nice historical site located below the main Golden Gate Bridge area. We went on a cold, blustery day in January and the wind howls through here. Dress appropriately. Rangers are friendly, store staff - a little less so but not egregious. You can climb around different levels of the fort and learn about what it was like to be stationed here and the history of it. Kids did a Junior Ranger activity book and earned their pins. Its a decent walk from the upper area or you can drive. You can watch surfers on big wave days right out besides the fort and the kids enjoyed that. Worth a stop if youre visiting the Bridge.

A very nice walk across the coastline with a dramatic view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Fort Point site is a wonderful stop if you’re exploring the surrounding area. Entry is free and it’s a decent spot to check out the local history of this Fort. I think though most will appreciate the view you get from sea level near the surrounding area. Parking is available as well but a bit crowded :)

Fantastic views of the Golden gate bridge, Alcatraz, and the city skyline. Not only are the views of the aforementioned sites nice but there are surfers there that are fun to watch also. Free parking is always a plus in the city and also if you go on the weekends, its free to enter the fort itself. The fort has a lot of history behind it and it is set up very well. The park rangers that are there are also very knowledgeable and super friendly.

Full of fascinating history! Doesnt look like much at first but the rooms contain exhibits full of surprising info about the history of the building, the Buffalo Soldiers, and the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. Fort Point is a civil war fort which is available for public exploration. There are a number of interpretative displays within the fort and there are volunteers on hand to explain things including a very entertaining lady who would not be drawn out of the 1800s character she was playing which was highly amusing. The fort has a considerable number of spiral and traditional stairs and needs some stamina to visit it all. I recommend seeking out all the nooks and crannies of this fascinating building.

From its advantage point overlooking the spectacular Golden Gate, “Fort Point” defended the San Francisco Bay following Californias Gold Rush through World War II. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of 3rd system brick masonry and interacts gracefully with the Golden Gate Bridge.Although “Fort Point” had never saw any battle, the building has tremendous significance due to its military history, architecture, and association with maritime history. It was also interesting to watch the story of the Buffalo soldiers who served the US during civil var.

This is the coolest place we visited while in San Fransisco. Its free to go in which is a big plus! We were there on a Saturday morning around 10-11ish and there was hardly anyone else there. I didnt get any other people in my photos, which is always awesome. Theres a lot of history here to soak in and a lot of cool things to see. I would highly recommend checking this place out. Going inside and touring the fort is free and parking is free, it doesnt get much better than that. Plus the view of the bridge is so cool, you can go on the roof of the fort and its right underneath the bridge! This place was the highlight of our trip (especially since we didnt plan far enough ahead to get tickets to Alcatraz).

This fort is located at the southern side of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is actually under the bridge and it provides a very good perspective for shooting photographs of San Francisco Bay from the San Francisco side all the way to Sausalito. You get a unique perspective of the Golden Gate bridge when you use this fort as a point for your photographs. It is a great place to visit but it can be very busy on the weekends. So I suggest as I always do, you get up early and get to it before the crowd gets there. It is free to go into the fort because its part of the national park system. There is a walkway inside that will allow you to go to the top of the fort, which creates the greatest Vistas for taking photographs and just viewing the bay. Here are a few photographs that were taken from the top of Fort Point near San Francisco.
