When your fourth grader has to do their mission project, this is a good mission to work on.We paid the small entrance fee and walked around the mission taking several pictures.There’s a lot a great history here and a small museum we can learn all about the mission.If you are lucky you even get to ring the bell in the mission.

We were cruising around the Mission District and found this museum. This was incredible! The oldest standing building in San Francisco. The building was beautiful, and the staff was so friendly. The docent even recommended a fabulous French bakery, Tartine. I highly recommend this visit for anyone in the area.

Another of those missions that no longer has a lot of what makes it a mission. Church and museum with a small cemetery. Swallowed by the city. But the mission style around the church gives the neighborhood a great style.

An affordable tourist attraction that’s worth visiting. The best part is probably within the church itself because it’s so old and because the painting is unique. There’s also a small museum and a cemetery, as well as a gift shop. The tour also provides access to the adjacent and much larger basilica.

Beautiful mission: the building was completed in 1791 and houses a chapel. Next is the basilica which dates from 1918. One gets a brochure with the unique history of this site and so can wonder around at ones own pace. In the covered walkway between chapel and the basilica are drawings from the early settlement of this mission. A tiny museum shows some artifacts from the church. There is also a cemetery to visit. And there are public toilets. Take time out for a slow walk through the early history of San Francisco. A must see when visiting this city.

I guess San Francisco de Asis (Dolores) is the oldest building in San Francisco，originally built in 1776, the #6 of 21 Franciscan missions in Alta California， amazingly its been maintained so well. And the new Basilica is so exquisite. Loved the visit.

Definitely worth the visit. Lots of history here. Ive lived in San Francisco for 10 years and didnt know about this place until recently. If you like history, you should plan a visit. Felt a little uncomfortable walking through the cemetery and checking out the indigenous artifacts in the museum, therefore no photos of that.. but the rest was pretty cool and surprisingly noone else was there!

Here began the city of San Francisco. If you want to know about the true story, you should visit the place. There is an old cemetery. The neighborhood is beautiful and is close to Castro Distric.

Beautiful little mission. The woman who sells tickets are a bit odd. Try not to let her scare you off. Do not miss the museum around back. Fascinating history.

An amazing place! Museum is small but really great. I enjoyed the Native American history and accounts of early bay area explorers.

This I a unique place. The only mission in California who survived throughout everysince its foundation.

This is the original mission and the namesake of San Francisco. Also known as Mission Delores, the church, mission, cemetery, garden and relics have been beautifully and lovingly preserved. There is a small gift shop for souvenirs, entrance fee is $7.00. They take credit cards. Staff is kind, helpful and knowledgeable.

Incredibly beautiful historical buildings - essential visit if youre interested in the history of California. The old adobe Mission was founded in 1776, the more recent and larger basilica to its right was completed in 1918.

A treasure of old California! Both the old and new churches deliver a fascinating experience never to be missed. I force family and Co workers who come to visit to learn the TRUE history of how California was founded by Franciscan priests. They all love it and come away richer for the experience. The basilica church has near perfect acoustics and the maestro there is brilliant and runs three marvelous choirs and music festivals. Dont miss out on this local gem.

One of the historic California missions, this is where San Francisco began. The mission is still an active church and a museum. You can take a tour. It is right next to the basilica that has the bell towers. It is a good example of simple mission architecture.

I love to find street art in the cities I visit. Sometimes its really hard to find it, but not here. I dont know which official alley we were in, but it was Lilac, right off of Mission Street near 24th. Delightful alley with lots of fun street art and photo opportunities. Wander down and ham it up. There are some amazing local artists works showing up here. 5 stars for the quality and quantity of street art.

A beautifully maintained (and still active) piece of California history. The basilica next door is also lovely and the old cemetery next door is a fascinating and sacred place. Unlike a lot of tourist attractions in San Francisco, this site is quiet and uncrowded-a nice break. It’s a perfect stop to or from Christmas Tree Point

The most beautiful and extravagant California mission. Unfortunately, being in San Francisco means the much of the mission had been destroyed.

Slightly less than impressed. The building is filled with so much history as its the oldest standing structure in the city, but it charges you to enter beyond its doors. I thought we were past the time of charging for religious establishments. Whatever the case, its pretty to look at but is also small and hard to get good pictures of.

As a lifelong Californian and history nerd, I really enjoy the mission. Their history is stained with a lot of unfortunate events, but to have such an important piece of history in the middle.of the city is actually kind of fascinating. Bring able to tour the grounds and the cemetery, filled with so much history of the city makes for as memorable experience.

The new church and the Mission are both gorgeous. And the old mission still has a lot of original structure and artwork. The cemetery is astounding because of the age. One of the best missions that Ive been to throughout California.

We visited on November 2 and were thrilled to see the celebration articles from Dios de Muertos. The sanctuary is beautiful and I love how they are restoring the cemetery. The gift shop docents were very friendly.

I just came from Mass there that celebrated the 242nd year of Mission Dolores (La Mision de Nuestra Padre San Francisco) founding. Its the oldest structure in San Francisco and survived both the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes. Its a beautiful church and well worth seeing.

Quite a lovely experience! The tours are self guided so you get to go at your own pace and just sort of look around, but everything is clearly marked so you follow the path they want you to take easily. Low stress and it is very beautiful here.

Worth the admission to see a beautiful part of California history. The cemetery is nice too.

Mission Dolores Basilica is a must see if you are a fan of the missions originally founded by Fr Junipero Serra. It is the oldest structure in San Francisco but its beauty and majesty remain as well as tremendous acoustics. Lovely gardens and grounds make this a wonderful, serene and spiritual stop in San Francisco.

It already holds a special place in my heart and no matter the time gone by its significance whether positive or negative does not diminish

I learned a lot, despite living here for 30 years. The staff are friendly, the bathrooms work. Its an oasis of tranquility in the seam between hipsters and hustlers. The gravestones tell the story of the many kinds of people who made San Francisco.

There is a donation for doing the self tour. The building is the first and oldest of all Sn.Francisco. You can see the amazing architecture of adobe and read about the history of the mission. In that time 17 hundreds it was Mexican territory. It is absolutely beautiful. You can enter also the basilica.

This is a must see! For Catholics, I recommend going to Mass and then walking around the premises and enjoying the history and scenery.

Beautiful place to travel back in time with my family. Another day to enrich and strengthen our Christian faith. Will come to attend Sunday mass in few months.

This was a great way for my daughter to learn about her Mission project for school. The man working in the gift shop was extremely helpful! ( when asked about her favorite part of the mission tour- she said “ the man in the gift shop!). Beautiful grounds and chapel. I came here to see the beautiful architecture of this historic church. It was so beautiful on the outside. Unfortunately I tried to go inside but it appears they charge $7 to go inside as I saw a sign. So I simply took pictures on the outside only. I feel a church should not obligate people to pay just to enter onto its premises. But if you want to pay you will have a better inside view of this church. I did go to the other Mission San Juan Bautista and was not asked or forced to pay. I walked in there freely. So its your choice if you want to pay or not. For me the outside was good enough.

Daughter did a Missions project on Mission de Asis. It was a great choice. The pictures turned out great and learned some great facts. We made a day trip into the city with this one.

Its a beautiful place but it always bothers me when I see homeless people sleeping outside of the church where they could be protected and sheltered

You can feel the rich history of the beginnings of this beautiful City call San Francisco! Its always worth the trip to visit this beautiful and very spiritual place!

Im not religious anymore, but i can definitely appreciate all the time i spent here through out my life, and i refuse to say a bad word, but only about this place. the rest of religion is not for me, and Ill let people say whatever they want, so long as i get the respect to ignore them, just keeping it honest...

Its a Basilica with a dome. Nice & peaceful. The choir during mass is fantastic.

Must see. Junipero Serra 1790 dried the Adobe bricks that have survived all earthquakes ever since. The oldest structure standing. Many 49ers buried here. Original victorian graves. Give a donation to get in.

Church i grew up in...went today to see a play on the crusifiction of Jesus Christ...great play, great acting...put tears in my eyes for what easter really is all about...
