Golden Gate Park has a lot of wonderful things it offers, including a place to ride horses and do archery. But this is also a very small and very nice hidden gem. There are actually two of these windmills in the park pretty close to each other. You can walk to both!

Beautiful scenery & close by the beach. The flower garden where the windmill stands is hidden from view of the main street. Looks peaceful & a nice place for a picnic or simply to retreat. Parking is a hit or miss depending on foot traffic. Try to bike here if you can.

When you got an interest or fascination for historical spots or just in a mood to look at revitalized monuments, stuff like out of the ordinary and different is what I think of this place. What was and a reminder of what has become now shows a short story of brings back a little of the pass to life. The Queen Wihalmina Tulip Garden brightens and beautifies this place.

The Dutch Windmill is the northern of two functioning windmills, the other being Murphy Windmill, on the western edge of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. It was completed in 1903, and placed on the San Francisco Designated Landmark list on December 6, 1981. Dutch Windmill is a great scenic spot to take awesome pictures and it’s right next to the Great Highway and Ocean Beach on the westernmost part of Golden Gate Park. I really appreciate this beautiful historic windmill and I hope you guys enjoy taking photos here as much as I do!Cheers Sincerely, Omaid

This originally was built to supply the local community with over a million gallons of pumped well water per day; when the wind blew. The surrounding environment of that time was all sand dunes; most of Golden Gate Park. The sand dunes were systematically destroyed in favor of creating the current green landscape.Saltwater from the ocean likely was eventually pulled in and contaminated the well water. Delta freshwater is needed to overcome the flow of salt water underground. The large land mass means less freshwater diffusion from the Delta. At one time, with no extractions from wells, freshwater dominated the underground flows out toward the ocean.Setting up rain making equipment like that done in Saudi Arabia could potentially reverse the salt water encroachment.

I feel like this place can always get a little overcrowded. The lawn always seems a little overwatered and parking of course is terrible. I think said the garden is always beautifully maintained, the flowers are interesting to look at, and this nice little piece of green in the middle of the city should be appreciated if youve never seen it
