Great service from staff. Cool building. Rooms we had were a little small for having young kids but thats how life goes now. Once more things are opened more this location would be really good.

Inn at the Opera is located in the Civic Center area of San Francisco so if youre into the arts this is a convenient place to stay. They have standard amenities and comfortable beds. The service is above average but parking is limited. Overall we had a decent stay and would recommend this place if you are going to see the arts.

This is an old building, so it is a bit run down and the rooms are small. However, the staff is SO nice and helpful, everything is very clean, and the location is fantastic. I didnt hear a sound from other guests while I was in my room. I normally avoid hotels with less than four stars, but this was a great place to stay. I would not hesitate to come back.

Love this place! I stay here about twice per year and I love it. The breakfast is great! The rooms are tiny (no matter which one you get, they are all small). The walls are paper thin...if you are on the street side you can hear the noise from the street. I still love this historic inn and love staying here.

The hotel is well maintained. They only have 1 elevator for the whole place. There are stairs next to the elevator but being a 7 story building, the wait for the elevator is worth it although the elevator only holds 4 people. The place has a nice complementary buffet breakfast. The room doesnt have air conditioning but does have a ceiling fan. The heater is a baseboard heater and takes a long time to heat the room. The bed is comfy and there are plenty of pillows. It is conveinently located next to City Hall. Their parking is Valet only and is less expensive than any other garage in the area. I will stay here again. Hope this helps.

I stayed here last week, for the week and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I didnt know what to expect except a smallish room and little or no kitchen facilities. The room(s) are smallish and there is only a small fridge and micro (similar to an upscale Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites). The continental breakfast each morning exceeded my expectations and was excellent. The service extended by the staff here is also well above average for a property of his type. My only issues and they were small: no paper towels/napkins in the rooms, ice is obtained by going down to the front desk only, there were not back up room amenities like toilet tissue, extra towels, soap, etc. All being said, I hope to stay here again on a future trip SF whenever that might be!

Space was clean, if a little worn around the edges. Complimentary breakfast was satisfying and helpful to get our day started. Quite location, centrally located with easy access to public transportation (or just walking around). Not much to do in the area at night, unless youre there for the music arts center. We had a suite with pull-out sofa bed, which was perfect for our family of three. Overall very convenient.

Update: After my review, I received contact from management other the comment below. HOWEVER, after I completed my survey for Shell Vacations Club, they contacted me and offered me a refund for my stay. Unfortunately, despite my repeated insistence that a refund was not necessary, their refund was not to my method of payment (my credit card). They applied points to my Shell account. As such, it was not a refund at all AND it invalidated my travel insurance claim, because, as far as they are concerned, I was refunded, even though I have no intention of using those points (lets not forget that point usage also incurs fees). Talk about adding insult to injury! As such, theyve now lost one star in my review. My stay at Inn at the Opera was due to unusual circumstances, so my experience may be a bit unique. I was stuck in San Francisco in mid vacation (on my way to Asia) due to having a salmonella infection, so I was needing to spend more time in the hotel than most people would be. I had needs that probably most would not. With that said...1) The walls are paper-thin. I could hear everything in the next room as well as on the street.2) The bellhop was very nice and accommodating in bringing me ice for my cooler since I needed to bring my own food (initially, I was on a liquid-only diet) and the refrigerator was not large enough for my needs.3) The rest of the staff was not at all accommodating. When I was finally able to eat other food, but not most of what was at the buffet, EXCEPT the eggs that were only offered every other day, they did not make any offer to accommodate me. Also, when I accidentally spilled soup on my duvet (and its cover), the front desk staff acted incredibly put out to help me with the bed when I was feeling incredibly ill and barely able to move. In a nutshell, unlike the bellhop, they showed no empathy.4) When I was rushing to my room, needing the bathroom, my key did not work. The front desks suggestion was for me to use the public bathroom. Needless to say, given my condition, I really didnt want to use the bathroom outside the restaurant and I didnt really think I should need to do since I was paying for a room. I felt his dismissal, when I was clearly in distress, was very insensitive.5) The rooms are very worn out. There are cracks in the tile that make it look like there is hair on the floor of the bathroom. The cabinet was not particularly clean and the sheets were stained.6) Theres no room safe7) Ive seen some complaints about the elevator, but I actually like it. Its actually one of the more quaint features of the hotel.8) While I could not eat the breakfast, it is actually quite a nice spread and would be very nice if I were not ill.If the attitude of the staff could be improved, this would be a nice place to stay, even with the other issues. I think the quaintness makes the other issues something one can overlook. The biggest issue was the staff.

We stayed here for 1 week and really enjoyed our time here. The free continental breakfasts were good and had a wide variety of offerings including breads, yogurt, fresh fruit, some meats, eggs, muffins and cereal. Starting at 3 pm there was also free cookies, coffee, teas, and water. The staff is the best feature of this hotel. On our first day, we arrived several hours before check-in with the intent of leaving our bags in storage. We started to leave and the bellman came running after us to tell us we could check-in early. Matthew Geiser, one of the guest services associates, was extremely helpful when it came to recommendations for the trip. He even printed out a list of local bars, restaurants, and activities for us to look over that he had created. The hotel itself is within walking distance to several stores, bars, and restaurants as well as the Opera. The only cons were the heater in our room was broken, we only had a small space heater, so our room tended to be cold at night. There also werent a lot of outlets in the room.

Stayed at this location for 3 nights on a long weekend. Arrived and was greeted by friendly desk staff who checked us in and pointed is to the concierge to get maps of local attractions. Unfortunately this was just an attempt to peddle a time share opportunity which was very disappointing to me. I didnt stay at a hotel to bee posted a time share. Leave that portion of your business model out and this hotel is serviceable in an ever increasingly expensive San Francisco Bay area. Good rooms for the price and centrally located near City Hall.

Great hotel in a very convenient location if you are in SF for an event being held in the Civic Centre area. The rooms are definitely on the small side, however this is pretty typical for SF boutique hotels! Very friendly staff and I successfully avoided Timeshare pressure selling tactics that Ive heard others who stayed here have experienced. Only minor gripe is that the water pressure in the shower wasnt amazing, but again to be expected in this kind of hotel.

Room layout takes too much time because the armoire is across the room from the bath. The tiny four person lift is very slow. Stairs are steep. The room was cold and the heat knob does not change that. Most annoying were the two Wyndham promotional agents who worked the lobby and the phones offering a tour of the other Wyndham hotels in the area with bait of a free breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of the other locations. These two were always trying to engage conversation when I had other things on my mind. WiFi sometimes did not offer the log in page.

Beds are Double Size not Queen! We were in San Francisco for our Babymoon. At 31 weeks pregnant, it is hard to sleep as it is and having a large bed was important to me. We booked a queen studio online and were surprised when we arrived to find the bed was very small. The front desk assured us that it was a queen as all the beds in the hotel are the same size. Not satisfied, I got a measuring tape and measured the width of the bed. It was 53 which is the size of a standard DOUBLE BED (Queens are 60). Armed with this new information, I went back down to the front desk and was told that is what we consider a queen. I would not have booked this hotel if I had known they were double beds. It is unacceptable to advertise your rooms as something they are not. Would not recommend unless you are looking for a small room with a double size bed.

Inn at the Opera is a quaint little boutique hotel in the heart of the Hayes Valley District. A close walk to many of SF Performing Arts, museums and fine eateries. Our room, while clean, was very small and dated. It could use a face lift throughout. There was no AC/Heat control in the room, only a ceiling fan (open a window) option, and one window didnt open more than a crack. The complimentary breakfast downstairs (in Plaj Restaurant) was a nice touch, offering many breakfast selections. Only (BIG) complaint was getting hustled by the concierge upon checking in or walking through the lobby. Shed harass you in an attempt to persuade youl to attend a free buffet at their sister hotel, where wed sit through a 90 minute presentation and be pitched a timeshare. She even bribed us $100 if wed go. We were on vacation, had no desire to go, told her so many times, but she persisted to the point of being offensive. Please, Wydham, educate your staff on the art of hospitality and do not allow them to harass guests like this. It does not speak well for your company and I will definitely pick another hotel next time Im in the area for this very reason.

Thanks Boutique style hotel with quaint antique-like rooms. The front desk staff and breakfast room attendants were lovely. Unfortunately the room cleaning staff is lazy and very unprofessional and ruined what could have been a perfect stay. Even though I removed my do not disturb sign at 9:10 AM they didnt even attempt to clean the room until 4:30 PM just as I was trying to get rest to go to work and told me they leave at 5. What was even more insulting was that the chamber maid lied to me and said I didnt take off the do not disturb sign in time for cleaning early enough which was 9:30. If youre going to stay here and want a clean room I suggest calling the front desk and asking for it.

This is in a decent location and overall I would consider it on another stay. I selected an Airbnb rental from this property based on price/rooming. Its definitely less expensive than your standard named hotels as it is an older hotel that was purchased by Wyndham and sold as a timeshare property. On the down side, youre renting a timeshare, so the amenities arent great. Its older and maintained by Wyndham, so that can be hit and miss. The concierge will work you if possible for tips and possible timeshare sales. There was no controllable A/C in the rooms except for some baseboard heat. That wasnt a problem for our stay as it was pretty cool in the evenings and we could open a window, but if A/C is a must for you, then this is a show stopper.Plus side, while technically a 1 bedroom, it had a separate room with a sleeper sofa and full bath, so it worked as a 2 bedroom just fine. Decent sleeper sofa. Free breakfast, which was fair. Near some nice small restaurants like Dragon Eats just around the corner, a good little Vietnamese place, but they close at 6pm. Restaurant at the bottom is a Scandinavian place with some interesting and pricey food, but it was good. And in decent walking distance to downtown. 30 min to Moscone, 15 minutes to Civic Center if you need to catch the BART to SFO, about a 25 min ride. About 10 min walking to the Van Ness (spelling?) muni station for your local trains.Overall, I would consider staying again, and if your standards arent too high, a decent value. Also nice if you want to stay close to the opera or ballet.

A vintage boutique hotel right beside the SF Ballet building and across the street from the War Memorial Opera House, Herbst Theater and Davies Symphony Hall. Obviously a perfect location for people interested in music and dance events. Not far from the Asian Arts Museum, and SF Jazz Center. The rooms tend towards the small size, so if you are looking for spacious - look elsewhere. Being an older building, the floors and stairs are creaky, and furniture and bathrooms are worn looking, though everything is kept clean and ordered by the housekeeping staff. Generally staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel does not have room service (which can be an issue for some travelers), but a microwave oven and small refrigerator are available in the rooms, and there is an onsite dinner restaurant (good quality) and continental breakfast is served in that same space each morning.
