The walking tour by the Courthouse is a must do when you arrive in Portland visiting. You will understand the surface transit, the best sites to visit and enjoy a great tour. They make Portland beautiful with their history and design review. We did it two weeks ago. Be sure to also visit Washington Park for their exhibits and the Portland City grill for an amazing view with meal. Do the tour first.

We did the beyond the bizarre tour with Jared. He was a great tour guide... super funny and very down to earth. We hit a few spots that were spooky but by far the basement was the most interesting. We communicated with either Sam Nina or Rose. It was very cool. I would totally reccomend this if you have a spare couple of hours. Thanks again Jared for the amazing experience.

Went on the beyond bizarre tour with my daughter. There were 3 others booked but they didnt show up so it was just us two. Jordan was our guide and he was the best! Hard to explain what happened downstairs. Jordan used the dowsing rods and gave them to me to use too. Nina and others communicated with us with yes or no answers and a really loud bang from behind a wall. Freaky! Definitely recommend the tour. My daughter wants to do it again. And thanks for the voodoo donut Jordan!

We did the Portland Underground tour with John, who was an amazing tour guide. He was well versed in the history and lore of Portland and to say that he was a great storyteller would be a huge understatement. We started at the old hotel, which is home to Portland Walking Tours, and circled a few of the historic blocks. We then went into the hotel basement to see and learn about what actually lies beneath Portland. The tour was interesting and informative, mostly due to a captivating guide. Thank you John. I will definitely do another one of the tours if I ever make it back to Portland.

Also, we get a few bites of food.Totally recommended, had a great time.

Went on the Portland ghost tour for adults during February. Our guide Tyler, seemed to be utterly incapable of talking about anything other than himself. Everything was in relation to his special relationship with a ghost we were communicating with, how his experience at a burial mound lead to him meeting his partner (in a protracted 20+ min story in a less-than-scenic dilapidated parking lot). There was not one stop that was not defined by a suspiciously embellished personal anecdote. While some people may find this style adds to their experience, for me and my group it definitely did not.Totally unprofessional and honestly baffling behavior. Would not recommend.

This was a great tour. Not only did we get to learn about some interesting history about Portland, OR but we got to go on a real ghost finding. We used real EMF reading machines. On our ghost part of the tour, we actually got to hear what sounded like a set of high heel footsteps above us, no one was in the building above us, and we got to hear what sounded like barefoot steps right behind the tour guide and myself. When we heard these two different noises, our EMF reading machines were blinking, which indicates possible spirits detected. We also asked several questions to several spirits that are known to still haunt Portland. The way the questions were asked and to specific spirits, we got several responses. We walked away from this tour believing a bit more and tried to debunk what we heard and could not. Our guide, his name has eluded me, was phenomenal. Definitely give this tour high props.

Not an underground tour. The title and description are misleading in that way. I was expecting a tunnel tour similar to ones ive taken with the non-profit group that had done a lot of the tunnel restoration work. This tour does not go into the tunnels at all. It spends a few minutes in a basement where you can see a blocked off tunnel, but does not explore any of the tunnels themselves. The tour is good if you are from out of town and want a quick overview of some of Portlands more interesting historical highlights. But do the evening tour with the less expensive non profit group if you want to actually tour Portlands tunnels

For context, we did the Epicurean Excursion for our corporate team building activity. Our experience with Portland Walking Tours was, in a word, fantastic (with two thumbs up!). They went above and beyond to accommodate us, and delivered a unique, educational, and entertaining experience. They were flexible about rescheduling the tour due to weather conditions, responded to emails at all hours of the day (including 7am!), and were even able to start the tour from our office to make it convenient for us. Even though all of us call Portland home most of us had only been to 1 or 2 of the locations we went to, and were amazed by the quality and tastiness of the food in our own backyard. The locations were all great, we totally lucked out on the weather, and walking around the Pearl District and downtown Portland was a relaxing and fun way to bond with our coworkers. But more than that, what made the tour great was our tour guide, Pat. She was funny, engaging, and knowledgeable, and brought great energy to the tour. She connected with us, and rather than just giving a canned tour she joked with us, chatted, and asked for our thoughts and knowledge at each stop. Whether youre a Portland native, or are travelling to Portland for the first time, we would 110% recommend Portland Walking Tours!

Todd was an excellent tour guide and story teller who shared his deep knowledge and love of Portlands notorious past (we took the Underground tour). We left having an even greater love of this quirky city and our visiting guests had a great time, too. Also -- Todd is impressively good at walking backward! This is the 2nd Portland Walking Tour weve done (the other was the Best of Portland a couple years ago) and theyve both been really good. We look forward to eventually going on all of the tours this company offers. Even as local residents, you learn something and it really is fun.

My husband and I went on the Food Cart Tour and it was fantastic! Damon was an amazing tour guide. Friendly, entertaining, and very knowledgeable! The food was heavenly, and there was soooo much of it. I am not an experimental eater, so I was surprised that everything I was given, I loved! I was also surprised by how much food we were given in under 90 minutes. We actually had to take some home in a to-go bag! Speaking of which, I loved that Damon was prepared with hand sanitizer, napkins, water, to-go bags and all the things you might need, not having access to a brick and mortar restaurant. There was a huge variety in what we were given as well. We grew up in Portland, and this was a fantastic tour for anyone who is unfamiliar with the food cart scene, or hasnt made it beyond the main pod of carts in Portland. Highly recommend!

If you have absolutely nothing else to do in Portland, do this. I did the Beyond Bizarre Ghost Tour and it was incredibly pointless and boring. Spent 30 minutes in the basement then another 30 in a parking lot. The highlight of the tour was getting a box of Vodoo doughnuts at the end. The tour also claims to be 2 hours long when it is without picking up doughnuts, and the long time in a basement and parking lot is at best 1 hour.

I went into it very skeptical, but came out wondering why, as a Portland-area resident, I hadnt gone on this tour much earlier. Our guide whose name escapes me (a younger gentleman) was astounding. We went ahead of another group so I could tell that the material presented was the same between groups, but he added interactivity & a true passion to his tour. The content was absolutely informative and unlike the Shanghai tour (not by this company) that I took the night before, the facts presented were... facts! I heard about the beyond bizarre tour and we decided to take it. It was a big disappointment. He talked about EMP detecter that gave us for 30 minuts, We were supposed to find Gosts during our tour with them , then for 45 Minuts walked us on the street pointing to some old “haunted” buildings telling old stories, I saw some people were laughing at us the last 20 minuts he finally took us in the basement of their office and talked about different experiences other people had there and many more crazy things he did that it was clear that was not true like knocking on door and waiting for responses !!!! The basement was not big and had nasty air!!! . I barely could breath. If you have breathing problem or Asthma it will be a problem for you. I felt so stupid paying $20 per person to go and waste my time. I only give one star to them because in the middle of the tour he bought VOO DOO dounuts for everyone.

Our tour guide, Alison, is a great story teller. It also is awesome that she graduated with a History major in college. She is knowledgeable and informative in every aspect of the Beyond Bizarre Tour. She gave us tons of information including how EMF works, the real history of Portland and true events that happened in her tours. Halfway through the Tour, we saw the riot come our way, she was quick on her feet and turned us back to the building and quickly found an alternative. We felt safe and well taken care of! I was in Portland last week (early May 2017) and signed up for two walking tours. The first was the Beyond Bizarre Portland Tour where we hung in a dark old basement with low ceilings and voltmeter for 45 minutes trying to find a ghost, and spending another 15 minutes wandering around a supposedly haunted parking lot (yes a parking lot). At every site we went to (about five sites), we found nothing. The whole tour was a complete waste of money and was just about a tour guide telling not very scary ghost stories and buying us Voodoo Donuts at the end of the tour. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS TOUR and think its a complete rip off. The second tour I took was the Chocolate Decadence Tour. Our group went to 4 chocolate shops and a restaurant (two chocolate shops were owned by the same chain - Cacao) capped off by a tour of oil/balsamic vinegar shop, which really had nothing to do with chocolate (unless you think drinking chocolate balsamic vinegar is something amazing (it was gross.) I felt the tour guide was being lazy taking us to the same chain of chocolate shops twice (Cacao) and not even taking us to a chocolate shop at the last stop especially since there are many chocolate shops in Portland. We also did not get to see anyone making chocolates, which is what I was hoping to see. Both my friend and I were disappointed with both these tours and we both said we wouldnt recommend either of them. I do recommend a visit to Cacao and drinking pure chocolate.

Here is the description of the tour from their website:For some, the highlight is the portion of the tour where we venture below the citys streets to see if the equipment can locate Nina, a former working girl who is known to haunt the 1885 Merchant Hotel. For others, its getting the real dope on downtown hauntings. This walking tour offers an in depth view into the reality of Ghost Hunting and not the drama that you see on TV. We constantly hear back from guests who call this tour a Ghost Hunting 101 training session and who were trilled to get an understanding of all the different types of hauntings including Residuals, Object Hauntings and Poltergeists. The highlighted part of the tour comes at the very end and lasts about 20 minutes. There was no in-depth view into ghost hunting. We got handed EMF monitors and no description of the different types of hauntings. Our guide, Justin, was hard to hear, rushed us through and said Ummm a lot. We heard a lot of interesting history about Portland, but this tour wasnt even Bizarre, let alone, Beyond Bizarre. I didnt appreciate the cavalier attempt to make humor out of the tale of the Japanese who were rounded up and shipped out to other locations while their land was stolen. I thought it was pretty disrespectful.Unfortunately I feel totally ripped off. Skip this tour... We heard maybe 2 ghost stories. Ive scared myself better for free.

I did the Underground Portland walking tour yesterday. It is known as the Worst of Portland Tour opposite the Best of Portland tour. We learned about the debauchery and early crime that happened in the underground scene. It begins in the mid 19th century and goes until the mid 20th. I thought our walking guide did a fair job. The problem I have with the tour is that I expected much more of it to be underground. I learned on the History Channel all about the underground (literally) culture of smuggling, prostitution, etc. I thought wed get to see more historically preserved scenes that took place underground. In the end, the last 20 minutes of the tour goes in the basement of the building Portland Walking Tours occupies. It is just a dark room with newly boarded walls and a clean concrete floor. Theres not much to see down there at all. In the end, I was disappointed with the experience, but maybe its because I didnt fully understand it going into it.
