This was such a wonderful way to have a great time with family especially during the covid era when it is impossible to get together in person. All of us enjoyed it---ages 9 to 67! This was a blast, funny, and so well-run. Will be checking back in to do it again sometime soon!

My friends and I have been to two of the rooms at Mad Genius and have fallen in love with the adventures they provide! We are thrilled and excited every time and the staff there only add to the enjoyment! Ive been to some other ones but Mad Genius stands out, having creative themes, inventive puzzles (many that rely on the senses as well as your problem solving). I can speak for everyone in that picture, that we LOVE this place.

We did the online escape adventure called, The Truth About Edith. It was very fun, challenging, and a great thing to do w friends or family. It was our first try at an online escape room, we’ve done one other since this one, and while it was good, this one was absolutely the best so far. Hoping they do some more!

I have done a few escape rooms but the Mad Genius Cat Lady escape room is by far the most memorable and fun Ive had in one.I went here about six months ago (I forgot to write a review until now) with just one other person. We were hoping that some strangers would join us but unfortunately it was just us (the room accommodates up to 8.) That didnt matter though because we asked for hints along the way. The whole scenario was super fun and just original. I loved the premise (being a lover of cats myself) and wholeheartedly recommend checking them out.

Tonight we successfully completed all 3 room! We made top 3 in Cat Lady and we are so excited about it! Highly recommend all of these room.

Had so much fun! We had 4 team members with different skills, in different cities, solving the case of Edith and her cats! We did it as a birthday celebration and solved it with 48 seconds to spare! Lots of excitement and surprises involved!

Love, love, love this company! We have done 2 of their 3 rooms and they are great! Such a fun experience and clever puzzles. We just did Cat Lady last night and had a blast! Such attention to detail. Cant wait for their 3rd room to reopen!

A great place for first time escapes. They have sample locks in the lobby to help you get a feel for what your experience will be like, and most of their rooms are linear (which seems easier than non-linear). Siren Song was a great story line with fun sound effects! Call ahead to learn how to enter the parking lot in back, its via an alley but felt safe and was convenient.

Definitely a fun place to go if youve never done escape rooms. Did one about a witch and a wizard that was very entertaining. A little immersion lacking, but still an amazing fun time.The room actually got split into two separate rooms at one point with the door closed behind and both rooms trying to solve the escape, great fun.

We had a great time. Weve done a number of escape rooms across Portland, but this was the first we did at Mad Genius. We did Battle of the Ancients and it was excellent. The puzzles had a number of layers and they created a unique experience despite this being a smaller space. They really know how to leverage all dimensions. Well be coming back soon to try the other rooms.

Ive done around 15 rooms in Portland, and Battle of the Ancients is definitely in my top 3. It was difficult, it was fun and had a few nice surprises. Ill definitely be going back to try their other rooms. The staff was great too.

This escape room is a must-do for your Portland adventures list! The employees are personable and humorous, which really topped off the whole experience. I will definitely be returning for another go :)

I did the sirens song room for my birthday party, and it was so fun! With a group of 5 teens, a twelve year old, and an adult, we managed to get the room done with no hints. It was the first room a lot of us had done, and it was a great intro experience. The puzzles were fun and challenging and it was great to work together in a group. I cant wait to try the other rooms!

Had a great time! The guy running the room was clear and fun, had a good sense of humor and a good sense for when we might need help. I loved that even though we were the last run of the night, he wasnt in a hurry to rush us out, and instead wanted to make sure we all understood how all the puzzles worked. Rates highly among the various rooms Ive done.

My husband and I have done many escape rooms (probably around 40 rooms). We did the crazy cat lady room. Super cute and unique!

My husband and I took our nieces and nephews (ages 6-11) and had the best time. We gifted them this experience for Christmas and just redeemed it within the last month. They had an awesome time and keep on talking about it. We all worked together (and truly all contributed!!) and made it out with 33 seconds to spare. The details in the room, the Cat Lady, were great, really well thought out and fun! Just when we thought wed made it, we were tricked - we wouldnt have changed it one bit. Super fun for each and every one of us! We plan to make escape rooms a part of our regular activities, its an amazing gift for kids, especially those who love puzzles. My husband and I both got a rush out of it too. Stressful, yet delightful. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!!

We tried this place and even though I didnt care for it and decided to wait in the lobby, one of the staff came out in character and helped the kids so they still had fun. This is a great place to bring the kids! I declined the refund they offered because you can tell how much effort they put into this project.

We had such a fun time here! We ran into a bit of a scheduling snafu and had to push back our game a bit last minute. They were so understanding and willing to accommodate! We will definitely be back!

We had the best time here for my daughters birthday. They did a great job of keeping it just difficult enough by tailoring their hints for the 10 year olds. The staff was professional and timely with their communication. I highly recommend them for a fun event for children and adults alike!

This is one of the coolest escape rooms places weve done yet. We did the cat lady apartment and it was awesome already have our second room booked for next weekend. The owner is awesome and even dressed up in character! Highly recommend going to Mad Genius. Fun experience.

Went here with my 3 kids and some friends from out of town. We had a blast! It was challenging and if you got stumped you could get clues. It was a great way to pull the kids away from video games and have some real family fun. We were able to escape because we worked together. We will definitely come again. Its worth every penny! This was my and my husbands first time doing an escape room. I chose the cat lady room because it sounded hilarious, and it was. We had such a good time! It was just the two of us and it was a great demonstration of the strength of our communication, how we balance each other out, and how we problem solve together. I loved all the decorations and loved the rush of solving puzzle after puzzle. We cant wait to go back! :)

This was my first escape room experience. Our group wasnt sure what expect, and we were completely blown away.This was one of the most fun things Ive done in the last decade. The room was a massive interactive puzzle, chock full of humor and unadulterated fun.We spoke with one of the owners afterward, and it was clear she was passionate about the business. I am endlessly impressed with the thought, craftswomanship, engineering, and downright intelligence necessary to create the room.I highly recommend experiencing the magic and wonderment here!

I know to some, 46 rooms are a lot, and to other its rookie numbers. However, these rooms had puzzles I had never seen in any other rooms. Amazing job at putting these rooms together! This company is in my top 5 favorites. I did all 3 rooms within a week of each other because I kept wanting more. I highly recommend this company to any escapers out there! Although, I would not suggest doing this company as your first room because it will ruin other rooms for you! THATS HOW GREAT THEY ARE.

Very well designed room with a super fun and original theme (we did the Cat Lady room). The room features a few types of puzzle mechanisms that I have never seen in the 25 escape rooms my wife and I have completed. The design and decor show great attention to detail and a good sense of humor; I laughed out loud at several points. This is definitely one worth visiting if you are into escape rooms.

Last week I did the Cat Lady room with my family, all of us having varying levels of escape room experience under our belts. With so many escape rooms in PDX to choose from, I chose this one based on the recommendation of my boss, one of most seasoned escape room veterans/addicts you could possibly meet! It was super fun and whimsical, with a nice variety of puzzles that tied in to the VERY unique theme (and that Im still fondly chuckling over). Katie greeted us warmly- and in character- adding an extra element to the experience. I wish I wouldve had time to do their other room during my trip- I know my kids, who live there, plan to return and are excited about Mad Geniuss upcoming creation. Whether you live in PDX or are passing through, I highly recommend taking time out for this room.

I did Siren Song with a group of friends. We had a blast! The decorations were great and the clues were VERY creative. The owner was so nice and welcoming. If you got stuck you could ask for hints. I loved it! Great for first timers or experienced escapees.

During the introduction I was literally laughing so hard I was crying! Such sweet staff and I truly enjoyed the room. Hoping to play another one of their rooms my next trip down to Portland!

I’ve played all three rooms at Mad Genius Escapes and thoroughly enjoyed all of them! The Battle of the Ancients is in my top three favorite escape rooms EVER! I love the special effects used in all the rooms, lighting, sound, and props. I feel fully immersed in their stories and puzzles, many of which are quite unique. The owners are so kind and genuinely care about making your event thrilling and fun!

When I was a little girl I dreamed of being a murder-mystery-solving detective. Mad Genius is the next best thing to realizing my childhood dream.This was my first escape room experience and did both Cat Lady and Battle of the Ancients. Both are fun and cleverly designed. Theyre like two different genres- one is more goofy adventure and the other is more fantasy drama. The clues/props are so good and unexpected.My group had such an awesome time that we plan on going back for Siren Song.

Seriously an amazing experience. We did the cat-themed room, and even though I dont particularily like cats, it was phenomenally well-designed and quite cleverly curated. There was great diversity in type of clue, from cerebral to physical to abstract, which allowed different members of the team to contribute according to their strengths.Highly recommend!!!

I have done the Sirens Call and Crazy Cat Lady rooms. Both were really well done with a lot of care given to both ambiance and novel and fun puzzles. Really great experience.

I brought a group of high school students and we took part in both the Cat Lady and Siren Song rooms (one group in each). We enjoyed the experience a lot! The students were engaged, and they continued talking about it for days afterward. Well worth it!

It was easy to get to and I thought the directions to their rear alley parking were great. Staff was great, easy check-in and game started on time. We did Siren Song with (6) people. Clues were challenging but not impossible. Props and gadgets were very clever. This was our group’s fifth escape room so we had a good idea of how to get started. I have exclusively done Escapism PDX because they use actors and its funny. I have not done Escapisms most challenging rooms but I have always escaped. Cat lady one was super hard, but in a great way! The puzzles were challenging in an out of the box sort of way. Would actually try it again it was so complex. Great location too. Many of these rooms are very out of the way. Right on Hawthorne!

Siren Song Secrets of the Deep is a well thought out escape room. Its set up in a clean, interesting space, big enough to move around while looking for clues; small enough to make it easy to communicate with fellow gamers. Mere novices, we had a ball trying to crack all the codes. Were ready to try some more Mad Genius fun. Highly recommended!

This was the best escape room me and Alexander have ever been to. You could tell there was so much love and thought put into making it. I dont want to give anything away, but the experience immediately walking in until walking out was INCREDIBLE.

This turned out to be a really fun experience with co-workers. We solved the easy room in 42 minutes. Fun challenges that kept us thinking and working together. Great activity for small groups (4-8 seems about ideal) for birthday parties, team-building, or a family activity. Well be back for the next level up!

I participated in Mad Genius Escape Rooms with a work team...we were blown away! Firstly, Katie was an absolute pleasure to work with and was SO flexible around our ever-changing rsvp (as a private group). She even let us come an hour earlier than the usual room time so that more of us could make it. I dont know what better service you will find for a private group booking. The game itself (Cat Lady) was tremendously fun, silly and the right amount of challenging. We had 8, and although I would probably suggest less generally speaking, it was nice to have our whole team in one room and navigate our different communication styles. It was good to have the option to receive small hints when we were stuck. We were all impressed with the attention to detail in the themed room. What creative minds. We made it out with 2 minutes to spare (37% success rate)!! I will definitely be returning for more.

This was our first time doing an escape room as a family and it couldnt have been better. The room was very clever as was to be expected. The icing on the cake was being met in the lobby by the crazy cat lady herself!! Great fun!!! Cant wait to see whats next.

You can tell how much she loves her job by her pawsitive enthusiasm and demeanor. The concept was really cool, the puzzles were fun to solve, the cat theme/music/SFX blended in purrfectly.Ive only done a handful of escape rooms and this one was by-far the most fun. You dont have to be a cat person or know anything about cats to enjoy this escape room. We did this escape room with two other strangers and we still had a great experience! My husband and I rented out an entire room to ourselves and had a fantastic time!! We loved all of the decorative touches, interactive pieces, and the story! I cannot express how much fun we had in words; the room and the worker were amazing!

We have done two of the three rooms so far and each time the staff have been incredibly kind and welcoming and the rooms have been creative and offered puzzles for all types of intelligences. The location and late hours are also a bonus. I only wish there were more rooms to explore!

Mad Genius is the best! About 20 coworkers and I did a Team Day event here and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves (even though no one escaped)! Many people expressed that they were skeptical about their abilities or the idea of escaping but were all pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had! Each group said their room was amazing. My mind was BLOWN!!! I have been to 6 other escape rooms (my friends and I are a little obsessed) and this one is by far THE BEST!!!! NO REALLY, they are miles above any other room I have been to! So creative, clever, and mind bending! They make all the rooms themselves- every detail is thought through and so well planned. I obviously highly recommend you spend your evening here!!!! Your life will be better as a result!

I have been to many escape rooms and this is in my top 3. It was the right difficulty, it allowed for division of labor through many smaller puzzles some of which can (and sometimes has to) be solved in tandem. Includes some fun twists

We got a chance to do the Cat Lady escape room. it was a really fun and creative room. However, unlike some other escape rooms I have done in the past, Mad Genius has a linear way of solving for one final problem. Which is great. However, having 8 people for solving the room is too many people. People get in each others way, or too many people around to solve one problem. Which will end up making some feel left out. This room should be for 4-5 people Max. All that aside, the room was awesome. Staff was great and puzzles were great.

We experienced an okay game with some misleading puzzles. The game mastering could also use an improvement.

Weve done a few escape rooms around Portland, and Mad Genius was one of the best! We did Siren Song and it was fun. Decor, ambiance, sounds, the puzzles... it was all perfect. We reserved a room for our son’s 13th birthday party. Super fun and challenging room! The staff were friendly and helpful. The kids had a blast and wanted to do another room as we were leaving. Highly recommended!

This is such a fun, creative experience! I love collaborating with my friends to solve puzzles. It is amazing how genius the puzzle pieces come together and I love that it requires teamwork and communication to be successful! I am excited to return to check out Siren Song!

Very fun experience for two adults and 9 and 5 year olds. We did the Crazy Cat Lady room. Clever puzzles for (most) levels, with lot of fun details. Great way to spend an hour.

We did our first room tonight--we were blown away!! We did the Cat Lady room and it was hilariously clever and brilliant.The staff was super helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend for a fun and affordable activity--I took my girlfriend there for a surprise date and we loved solving all the puzzles together and laughing about the cute cat stuff.There is an art form to these escape rooms and they are masters! I will definitely be coming back to try another room and I look forward to seeing what else they come up with.

The Siren Song room we did on Saturday night was fun! Great theme, some interesting puzzles, but a little on the easy side for our group. The host, Matt, did a great job and would definitely recommend this game to a group of new Escape artists!

The room was great and the owner is super friendly and helpful! Very professional outfit and we felt like the room we did had reasonable and effective puzzles that worked. Sometimes you go to rooms that the puzzles take some real finagling to work, but not here. Great place and will check it out again!

My experience with escape rooms is pretty minimal. That being said, I came here with a party of 6 and an infant. I was expecting the puzzles to be alot more analog and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a mixture of analog and more modern technologies. Staff was incredibly pleasant and friendly. Talked us up before and after. Answered questions and looked for ways to improve experience. I would definitely come back.

Such wonderfully done escape rooms with refreshingly unique puzzles and themes. I have done a few dozen escape rooms and the two Ive done here are my favorites.Both the themes were ones I had never seen before which was big for me as I love getting fully immersed.

3 escape rooms, all are pretty fun. Great staff, and good eats around to celebrate after without driving.

I would definitely suggest it to anyone I know.Difficulty was perfect, challenging but not impossible and everything you need to know is in the room, so no exterior or prior knowledge is needed to do well. I took three boys age 9 to the Sea Siren game. They loved it! Mad Genius has great sets, creative clues and is a very fun place to spend your day. We will be back!

We were all impressed, I think, by the various skills the experience brought out in each of us - we werent looking for that sort of feedback, but got it naturally. Very cool!!

Our group of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our outing at Mad Genius last week. The owners of this business are obviously very clever people who know how to setup a series of challenging puzzles. Our session went by very quickly as we searched for clues and did a lot of head scratching. I would highly recommend Mad Genius to anyone who is looking for an interactive and entertaining experience. We look forward to doing it again.

We dropped in with three people very last minute, and while there was a bit of a schedule mix up (they thought we were with another party), they were very accommodating and my group of three got to have a room all to ourselves. We did the Siren Song room, and it was a lot of fun! I was impressed with the puzzle quality, nothing impossible or requiring huge leaps of logic.

We went as a family for my brothers birthday and had a blast! They were super nice and friendly and everyone had a great experience from my daughter (age 6) to my mother (age 68) and everyone in between. We used all three of our clues but solved it before our was up (barely! 1 min 29 sec to spare!) . This was a super fun activity for our family!

This was my first experience of an escape room and it did not disappoint. The people who run the escape room are very nice and give very useful hints when needed. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an escape room experience in Portland.

My friends and I have done a lot of escape room together, and I think this was our favorite. It was challenging but not frustrating. There were some pretty original puzzles that I hadnt seen at other places. We did manage to escape - with 19 seconds to spare!

Mad Genius has the most imaginative escape rooms Ive ever played. Both Cat Lady and Siren Song are cleverly designed and immensely satisfying to do. The puzzles are great, and each room has a unique personality—you wont find better themed rooms anywhere.(I also appreciated how they have a parking lot in the back. I hate parking).

Katie is the best and we always have so much fun going to Mad Genius! The past two years we have taken our staff for a fun day and it never fails to create memories!
