A fun workout with great views at the top. On nice days expect a lot of people. The back stairs are wider and offer more room to social distance as you climb. Be sure to explore the top as there is usually something interesting going on (impromptu guitar player, etc)

Mt. Tabor is a great place to come if you want to exercise. If you want to run stars the ones in the back of the mountain are good because they are wide and there is plenty of space to run up with a friend or to pass if someone is in front of you. However, the steps in the front are steeper and more aggressive although only wide enough for one or possibly two people. You will really feel the burn and work your lungs if you run the two flights off stairs in the front of the mountain and then continue to run straight up the dirt trail to the left. All in all if you run straight up the front of the mountain youll run up two flights off stairs, one moderate dirt trail and then a steep dirt trail which no matter how many times I run this path always kicks my butt.

A dormant volcano in southeast Portland creates the perfect place to look down hawthorn street and have views of the city. Lots of lovely trails to hike around and playgrounds for kids.

The stairs themselves are steep. The view from the top of these stairs is arguably the best on Tabor. We watched the 4th of July fireworks from here--they ballooned up in distant towns and neighborhoods.

I love Portland and everything about it. This place is one of many that really encapsulates the feeling of this city. A local told me that Mt Tabor was, at one point in time, a volcano. It’s a great place to get some morning exercise and take in the fresh air and beautiful views. At the top you can see and excellent view of the city.

The stairs are shorter than they look, and they lead up into the greater park. Really nice views of East Portland and downtown from the top. You can see right down burnside street for many miles.Cool redwoods to see along the way you’re into that kind of thing. Parking at the base has been easy both times I went.

Great rise over run on these classic Portland ascenders. Youll fit right in along the fitness grandmas, pooch wranglers, bird spotters, family outers, and errant squirrels. New handrails make for a secure assistance should you require. Nice landings between flights make for lovely breath catchers. Mind the cars and cyclists at the road crossings. You have the right of way but that doesnt matter much if you get run over.

Strange to give a review for stairs, but I wish Id known about them sooner so Ill share! They are a great way to get to the top of Tabor fairly quickly. Maybe not quite as scenic as the trails, but still well shaded. They are wide enough that you can have multiple people heading up and down (+ four legged friends) and usually you dont feel too crowded. They are well maintained (they just got new railings summer 2018) and offer a great workout. I will often run/walk them (as well as the other, shorter stairs around Tabor), and Ive used them for mountaineering training with a heavy pack. It can get a little monotonous, but people watching helps. There is also a nice drinking fountain at the top and bathrooms! Note - on Wednesdays they close the roads so it can be extra nice to be on Tabor those days if youre running/walking/biking!

I wish I had pictures to this place. We stumbled upon this as we are driving around Portland and got lost in the process. Were glad we did cause this place is such a good find. It is well kept, and the area is HUGE! Huge trees, with guides, water fountains, and LOTS OF STAIRS. So if you are trying to get your workout on, definitely hit this place. If you just want a nice vista, this is also the place to do it.

Ch
Review №63

Great scenic cardio workout. The stairs gain 171 feet in elevation and there are multiple paths to branch off onto to keep things mentally engaging. One caveat is these stairs are uneven. Some flights have sunken a little with age and some risers are taller than others. Hence the steps can be challenging to negotiate when theyre wet. Its par for the course for old architecture and IMO adds some variety and challenge.
