Good hike up to the lake that also overlooks independence mine. Starts with a slow easy climb in elevation before a shirt section that is a little more difficult. We did the hike with two 4 year olds walking. There were some questionable sections but taking it slow is okay. Recommend some good shoes for the dry sand parts or just extra caution.

This is a nice very short hike that is pretty much geared towards familys going to the Independance Mine Site. Its about 2 miles round-trip and can be relatively steep but its so short that its not really a big deal. There was all walks of life hiking the trail today, including dogs, kids, all manner of people and even a goat. Nice little lake at the end of the trail, its a good spot to stretch your legs after driving all the way up to the mine. Worth the effort.

This lake comes as a surprise after hiking up a winding, rock covered trail. I was scared the last 5-10 minutes of the hike, mostly from fear of falling and knowing the only way down is the same trail. With the valley far below I kept my focus on the trail, but as soon as you crest the top and walk a short distance, you are rewarded with this jewel of a lake. The water is clear, smooth (yesterday it was) reflecting the sky and mountains. So worth the hike. The trip down wasnt as bad as I expected. If you have an opportunity to visit Hatcher Pass, do so, so much beauty, history, peace and quiet, and loads of hiking.

Ill be honest, the way up to the lake isnt that fun. The day before I went there was rainy day, therefore the trail wasnt that dry. On the way up, after the easy walk, it wont even have space for 2 people to pass by in most area. I was going up slowly as the hike was slippery and muddy. However, once you get to the lake, it worth the hike. Even it was still covered by ice, mostly, but the water was clear. The view down the valley was very nice too.If you stop by Hatcher Pass after a day or 2 sunny day, consider this lake.
