What to find how to ride a bike with square wheels? Then come to museumOf mathematics to find out how. This place has a lot of stuff to engage and interact with. This place is not that big so it can get really busy and crowded. I do find it more crowded in the morning versus after lunch. So I would suggest having an early lunch and come here after noon so it’s not that crowded. Highly recommend this place!

What a fun way to learn about Mathematics !I think there’s everything for everyone in this museum, for the kids of all ages: many activities and different areas like this painting wall (see photo below) or the bicycles with square shaped wheels ...My 3,5 years old had a lot of fun, we spent 3 hours there. Don’t forget to check out the underground floor !Ps: Oh, should I say, the location is so perfect ! Right in front of the Madison Square park /in the Flatiron Area.

Cant find a more fun and educational place to be than this museum. Bring your kids(over 6), otherwise they might have trouble understand the contents in most of the play stations. The origami section is amazing. Your kids will enjoy painting and designing their own patterns on clothes. And everyone will get a kick out of the tricycles with square wheels.

A fun way to spend a few hours, the National Museum of Mathematics is filled with interactive exhibits that can inform and entertain people ages 3 to 103. Kiosks with explanations at multiple levels of understanding are paired with the exhibits. The exhibits themselves are great. Ride a tricycle with square wheels! Learn about fractals by becoming a tree, leaf, or snowflake! It can get a bit crowded on weekends and holidays, so if youre planning to visit in one of those, its strongly recommended to arrive right when they open.

Interactive education at its finest! Loads of didactic games and exhibitions which engage visitors, especially children. Spanning a wide range of science and mathematics, from optics to engineering, to chemistry to cryptography. Two floors of exhibitions, and a set-off room for the construction of models. Free coat check, and gift shop featuring lovely educational items like wooden Rubix Cube-like toys and Element maps. Tickets can and should be pre-ordered on the Museum’s website, which visitors can redeem at automated terminals in the Museum’s lobby.

Great experience with my friends, we went there as a school trip and this has been a wonderful experience to students and teachers all ages. Math is a subject that everyone needs to know and will need to know in the future when they grow up. They need to experience the world of math. This place is filled with math activities ranging from rocket basketball shooting to geometric shapes that you can put together to make something unique. More a limited set of interactive exhibits with a tangential relationship to mathematics in a surprisingly small space than a museum in the traditional sense of a compendium of concepts and historical facts organized logically. For children it is enjoyable though I’m not sure the connection to math is entirely evident. To me this is a cliche attempt at trying to make math “fun” by obscuring it. The Hall of Science is far better at providing a plethora of hands on exhibits and is a much better deal. I’m not saying this math museum isn’t worth a trip but holding out for the free entry days probably makes a lot of sense.

Went with my nephews from out of town. They enjoyed it but, then again, it doesn’t take too much to keep kids entertained. Was a cool museum but I felt like a lot of the exhibits—while entertaining for kids—were a stretch to apply to math or at least to math they would understand. It was also very expensive for what was offered. At a lower price, I would have less qualms.

Be prepared ... No intellectual loafers at this wonderful (literally) museum! The mathematical concepts wont be spoon-fed to you. But, if you bring your active thinking cap, the exhibits will meet you at your level. A couple of the docents took the initiative to check in with me to ensure I was having a proper experience at a couple of exhibits, and the MoMath visitor would benefit if more docents had a similar courage. The gift shop has books and puzzles, but should broaden their offerings. Overall though, an imaginative and amazing way to engage in mathematical concepts.

I apologize my photos arent great.... I guess with a name like National Museum Of Math I expected a lot more from an adult perspective. This place is basically only for kids and is 2 levels.I thought from an adult point of view there should be visual representations of Fibonacci and many other examples like visual graphing and cool applied Dynamical system problems or even a calculus section. In addition there are only 2 levels a part of me thought there would be more I get it but its a museum of math and I expected a lot and didnt get it.Also alot of the machines werent working or were broken and I saw one tech guy trying to fix it all.Im sorry if I seem harsh.... I recommend this museum for kids... But for an adult I dont recommend it and its a little pricey. The highlight of this day here was my pi pencil.

I took my sisters who were visiting from FL here. At first glance, it really doesnt seem like much. Theres a lot of mathematics-driven activities that are pretty cool. I enjoyed seeing my sisters give the square-wheeled tricycles a whirl. The hands-on digital mural painting was a lot of fun as well. The greatest surprise is that there is the BASEMENT level that hides the really good stuff. Theres a motion-sensor maze on the floor that you try to get blocks to their designated color slots. Theres a ton of mind teaser puzzles to really give your noggin a work out. The wall of magnets is really fun too! It has magnet pieces that fit together regardless of the color. Its just a really cool place. Im not a big math person and while I didnt take in all the mathematics behind the fun. I can definitely appreciate it.

There were way too many kids and we could not enjoy any of the exhibits while they were there. However once they left we were able to interact with the exhibits and really get a lot out of them. When I spoke to the staff they said they hadnt anticipated that many school groups coming in at the same time. For the size of the museum, which is not that big they really shouldnt allow more than one school group at any given time, its unfair to the regular admission patrons and doesnt allow for interaction with the different exhibits.

We came here expecting an exhibit-style museum. In fact, this was an incredibly interactive place full of puzzles, ciphers, and odd geometrically shaped toys to be played with. We ended up spending two hours in here before looking at the clock! This is a great place for kids, but an even better place for adults who miss being kids. My favorite part was the authentic Navy M-209 cipher that you could sit down and encrypt/decrypt your own messages with. I highly recommend this place to anyone. At the time of our visit, admission was $18 for adults, and $12 for children, students, and seniors. There are only two relatively small floors, but you could spend an entire day in there. This is a very interesting place to visit in NYC. Kids do love it. Plenty of cool math games that can be very interesting if only... We went there around Christmas and the museum was packed with kids. Now all these cool math games require a bit of reading to figure out how to play and solve but this is literally impossible when kids are just running around pulling levers and stuff while their parents just watch. As a math student, I loved going here, but the non-student price is way too high for how small of a museum it is. Even at the student price, I probably wouldnt go more than 2 or 3 times. I think my biggest complaint though is that its so focused on convincing kids that math doesnt have to suck (which admittedly is very needed in our culture), that they kind of gloss over the college student demographic. In a city with so many universities and colleges, I feel like theyre missing a big opportunity to appeal to another demographic. That being said, I felt like a kid in a candy store while I was here. One look at the square wheel bicycle in the middle of the main floor had me hooked. The best thing that they offer is the downstairs area, which is loaded with puzzles and games. The top floor almost resembles an art museum with all the art created from math. As such, it was cool to look at for a bit, but got boring pretty fastIm not sure what to say about the crowds. The museum is well done, but gets crowded and it is hard to do the activities when there are so many kids. It is also definitely a childrens museum. An adult would enjoy it, but it is first and foremost tailored to children. The staff was polite but they are mostly there to make sure you are using the equipment correctly rather than explain the maths behind the exposition.I went in summer and the place was swarmed by summer schools, which made everything a but complicated as I had to navigate a sea of children that all wanted to do everything and assumed you were a boring adult that was cool with watching from the sidelines, even if you had been waiting for a while for your time to enjoy the activities. All in all, take you kids (under 8-12 would enjoy it the most) and they will love it. As an adult looking for a mathematical museum, it might not be the best option.
