Great train display (its right around Christmas/New year when we went)!!! Very small area though, so strollers are not allowed in. There is an area to leave them outside it, but it is not monitored, so if you have a stroller, have someone go with you that can stand outside and make sure it doesnt get stolen!!! Other than that, food/drink isnt allowed in either. They have a section that is essentially a gift shop with a bunch of train/transit stuff, and there is a smaller area that has some Thomas the train stuff for sale. There was a guy at the door that would tell you not to bring your stoller/food in who could have been nicer, but it was nice to have another guy that was basically dedicated to answering any questions that you might have!Overall, a great place to go with kids off any age! Plus theres all sorts of nice food right downstairs. Wonderful accessibility since its right in Grand Central. What more could you ask for!!!

I have visited the annex only during the holidays because they set up a great holiday train display that will entertain all your young kids. Otherwise, the store is about the size of a large gift shop and does not offer exhibits like the full-sized museum in Downtown Brooklyn. Staff are courteous and helpful and they do cordon off an area outside for you to park a stroller if you visit for the holiday train display.

HIDDEN WITHIN GRAND CENTRAL, this convenient outpost of the Brooklyn-based NYC subway museum sells subway curios and gear. Most useless. But the venue does host modest exhibits that can be fun while awaiting the 6:12 to Stanford. Just now, there are grand photos of old subway cars repurposed as sunken homes for coral and fish. Whimsical, and worth a wonder.

Its a super tiny store more than a museum, but every Christmas they have a great model of NYC with some old Lionel train models on quite a few different tracks. They span quite a few years of service and are pretty detailed, great for both kids and adults interested in trains. They sometimes have extra model trains in display cases around the diorama based on old long haul train lines. Not sure Id suggest coming here other than to see the models in December though, its a small store with overpriced souvenirs.

Love this place! If you have a train-crazy kid, they will love the model train display that is here in the winter. I love that it remains up long after the holidays so that it is possible to come see it without a claustrophobia-inducing crowd. It is a bit tight in there because they really are trying to cram in a lot into a small space. They have a great selection from affordable, small souvenirs to very expensive train toys.

A holiday tradition that will amaze the children and even impress their parents. While it certainly doesn’t begin to approach the scale of the annual exhibit at the N.Y. Botanic Garden, this layout has unique features including a New York skyline and a replica of Grand Central. Plus it is compact and located within the the magnificent Grand Central terminal.

It’s a nice place to see old subway memorabilia... if they existed in this store. It is not a museum. It would be great to see prints of old or current subway art prints sold here instead of postcards you can buy at any other shop. The train models is nice but the rest of the stuff in this stop aside from old subway tokens are junk! Time to change stock asap because everyone goes in with excitement and comes out disappointed. It feels like a tourist postcard shop on 5th ave in the 30s.

If you like trains and/or the subway you’ll love it. Model electric trains run over, under, and through the landscape of New York State. Great attention to detail. Gift shop has many options for you or your train-loving friend. Model train is really a delight. Very crowded on weekends. Just remember that patience is a virtue, especially in regards to children.

A small space with a decent gift shop with things ranging from small train trinkets to full investment sets of Bluetooth trains. The holiday Christmas train show was modest, and we were ushered along rather quickly since a line had formed and there was only a small perimeter around the train set that could be walked along. Overall, I wouldnt recommend going out of your way to go, but if youre at Grand Central why not check it out.

My son and I enjoyed the museum inside the Grand Central Station. The model Railway exhibit was nice. My son especially liked the addition of the Polar Express train along with the NYC MTA subway cars and engines this is a must see if you plan to visit NYC unfortunately this exhibit ends on Sunday 2/23/2020.

Its way smaller than its counterpart in Brooklyn and it looks more like a book shop than a museum, but at least admission here is free. When I visited, there was a model of the Grand Central Terminal and its surrounding skyline, complete with moving miniature trains. The gift shop has a decent stock of souvenirs, books, and gift items.Head to the main museum in Brooklyn for a more complete museum experience.

Localized by the track 34 inside Grand Central, this is basically a gift shop of the New York transit museum. You can find the complete collection of New York subway trains, souvenir, and gift. There are also a nice variety of train books, puzzles, and toys. A worthy place to visit if you like train. The price is also reasonable, aka comparable to the price on Amazon.

This is the perfect store for subway fanatics or anyone who loves New York City. You can find all sorts of subway paraphernalia at every price point here. Not to mention wonderful customer service from a staff member who had been working there for 19 years. I wish I caught her name because she was kind, really helpful and I left the store feeling good after my interaction with her.I ended up buying a t-shirt of the subway line I grew up taking. For me, wearing a reminder of something that courses through its veins is the best way to carry NYC wherever I go.As for the museum aspect, there wasn’t much to see in terms of a display that day.

It was a little difficult to find. Considering I was trying to use google map, I kept going in circles and not able to find it. Until someone who knew where museum was finally able to point me where it is located. The display of trains was beautiful... but its only look do not touch so its for little older kids who can understand this concept :)A little toy locomotive I choose for present end up not making a sound when I brought it home, likely I was in the area next day and a salesperson gladly exchanged it, but if I was not able to comeback it would really dissapont a child. Selection of toys there is ok, lots of accesoties with MTA and subway theam.

Grand Central Terminal is a hub for transportation but also a lot of people shop here. The New York Transit Museum has a little store that is a great peak into how great our transportation system is. I love love love this Museum. I used to come here as a kid and now that I am over 30 I still enjoy going down to see the old vintage train cars that will never ride again. I know sometimes they run these old cars on special days of the year. The old turnstyles and stuff brought be back to the 80s and showed me how far the MTA has come with the Subway system.
