Sleep No More is incredible, I went twice with two completely different kinds of friends and had a blast both times. Truly next-level theater with amazing attention to detail, setting and movement. I have also heard that Speakeasy Magic at the rooftop bar is great too, I know a very talented magician who works it although I havent had a chance to go yet!

10 Feb. 2020This was the best thing we did in New York.We were looking for unique experiences; we weren’t sure what to expect, but we bought tickets for dinner and a show, The Woman in Black, and arrived at the “hotel. We were led inside this mysterious building and the elevator attendant brought us to our floor. We were led to our table which was a private booth - in a train car! Not just any train car - an old-timey one that makes you feel like you’re in an Agatha Christie novel. Our server, John, was an absolute delight (he reminded us of Dr. Who ((Matt Smith)) in the best way; whimsical and eloquent). The menu was delicious and offered classic English fare - my pot-pie was perfect, and the sticky pudding after was to die for.The cocktail menu was also impressive, but I am currently obsessed with gin-aviations, and asked John if such a thing were possible to procure. He knew precisely what the drink was, and immediately had the ingredients brought over from their neighboring restaurant to make it for me!Then, showtime. It turned out I was familiar with the story - it was made into a good horror movie some years back - superbly acted and engaging. I literally screamed, I was so IN the story. What a magically eerie, beautiful, and brilliant experience. Don’t miss it - we’ll surely be back next time we visit the city.

The set and atmosphere are surreal and well crafted, the cast was talented and dedicated, and the concept was certainly unique. Unfortunately, there are entirely too many audience members per showing to truly enjoy the experience, many of them tourists and super fans ready to shove and trample for the chance to get a one on one. It felt more like a competition than an experience, as groups of 30 or so people swarmed each scene, chasing actors up and down stairs in hordes, hovering over you as you read letters and making it hard in general to lose yourself to the experience. I hear multiple viewings give you a better overall understanding, but I barely got to see any of the scenes on my first viewing, just the back of heads and interlinked arms. A smaller crowd or better crowd control would have made this a five star experience.

It was a unique and beautiful experience the actors are no doubt talented and dedicated to their performance. However, I know I would’ve had a better experience if it wasn’t too overcrowded. I could barely follow any of the stories and I wanted to so bad especially for the price that it is. I felt like if I was in a race more than actually enjoying it. I would go again but definitely on a weekday and perhaps on lower season with less tourists. There is the option to take a little break in the main bar area especially after wearing a plastic mask and walking endlessly in dark places, you will get tired and sweaty. Watch out for being too close you will get your clothes stained with splatters.

As someone who knows the plot of Macbeth but has never seen it performed live before, I really didnt take much away from it. I followed a tailor for much of the evening, it felt like most of the time was spent completing small filler activities (cutting thread, cleaning surfaces, pacing etc.) while waiting for interactions with other actors that were few and far between. Couldnt tell you which of the characters was Macbeth, didnt witness any murder or other seemingly important plot points. I felt I explored the hotel quite thoroughly and was rewarded little for my curiosity. It does create a very cool, eerie atmosphere, but overall not a great experience.

Sleep No More is pretty darn cool. If no one told me about it, I probably would not have known to check it out because unlike Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, there is really not a lot of advertising for this. Getting tickets online is easy. Show up half an hour before your start time because lines form. Bring cash so you can enjoy a drink at the bar before and after the show. This place is unique because you are part of the show. You can interact with the actors if they allow for it, but also feel free to walk around the building set, and open drawers, follow people around. A really cool experience unlike any theater I have been to in the past.Tips: wear flat shoes. Youll be walking around on wood, stairs, rubber garden chips, etc. Also, leave your coat and purse at home - otherwise youll have to check them in at $4 each. No pictures allowed. Dont be surprised if they split you up from your group/date/partner. Just plan on meeting up afterward and discussing your experience in the cool lounge.

Everybody is so excited about Sleep No More. I can’t say I was impressed. To me it was quite boring. I guess the major part of a theater experience for me is dialogue. Here it’s all silent, so it didn’t engage my senses or mind as much. To back it up, I can say that the best thing I remember was a chit chat by one of the actresses in the bar, where they talk. I really liked the way she was talking. I felt like I was part of a play, inside it. But after we left the bar, no more talking.. only movement. It was still an unusual experience, but I can’t say I liked it enough. The venue is really cool.

I went in without any knowledge of what row of play it was. You start at the bar with what seemed like 50 or more people (they will stagger folks in so actual count of people inside is more). At some point you will be ushered into a small room where they detail the rules and then you are taken to a random floor and left to explore the play first hand. Here are 3 strategies - follow one person, stay and observe all actions in one room, switch characters ever so often. One thing to note is your will be moving quite a lot, characters move fast and there were several instances of people hitting each other, stomping on your feet when running to follow. Be careful on the stairs. Also please dont take pictures, there were a couple of people who kept on doing that and was annoying even though your are warned against that.Overall:+ Unique experience, awesome actors, great details on set- too many people, can be unsafe, sometimes claustrophobic, difficult to follow sometimes

Sleep no more is absolutely worth to take in New York. The price might be lower during weekday. I would suggest to buy the ticket for the first group of the day so that you can see all the three rounds of the show. There are three rounds playing every night. Each rounds are the same so that you can choose different characters to watch their own story in Macbeth. At the end of the third round, they will present the ending of the story.During the show, you need to move in the whole hotel to chase the character you are interesting in. You will be able to stand just next to the character to watch the show, sometimes they might invite you to present some episode with them.Keep in mind to wear comfortable shoes so that you can chase the show for the whole three hours. You may also return to the bar at the entry for a rest and get some drink.

The producers of the sleep no more were greedy: The number of people in the audience was much, much more than the optimal. It was impossible to follow the performers. Too many people walking and hitting each other in the hallways killed the artistic experience, totally.Suggestion to the producers: cut the number of audience by half, and even more: make it 1/3 of what we experienced. Youll make it more artistic, and people may come twice which compensates for the lost profit.

I was somewhat disappointed after going last night and reading so many good reviews for Sleep No More and the Hotel. As described by other reviewers, the location is a multi floor building in Chelsea. The building is really interesting and has a lot of places to explore and see. Each area has its own sounds, ambiance and in some cases floor textures. My mayor disappointment is that there is not much happening in most of those rooms. The ratio of actors to floor area is not very high. Whenever you see an actor, sometimes you have no idea how his performance relates to the story. Also, once they finish they leave very quickly and most people follow them but in most occasions you lose track of them and get a feeling that you are missing something better in some other room or floor. I arrived around 7:30 and after 2 hours of wandering and seeing some scenes, got bored and tired of the whole experience. I think that a smaller venue, more actors or more frequency of the scenes would improved the experience. Also some sort of guide to where the important bits are happening would also help. Some scenes didnt feel too relevant. On the good side, it is very innovative, original and a whole new experience to see theater.

Truly a unique experience. Never before have I seen dozens of people chase nothing in a lemming like stampede during a failed attempt to see part of what they paid for. What this experience amounted to for me, was chasing after performers as part of a small mob. It was like the performers were celebrities and the audience was the paparazzi. It got frustrating quickly, watching the performers silently interact with each, separate, and quickly go their own way. Emphasis on the quickly. Youre faced with a choice each time too: who do you follow to figure out what is going on? Spoiler alert: it doesnt matter who you follow, youre never going to figure out what’s going on.So you make your futile choice and try to keep pace as the performer makes a dash for their next spot like its a race no one told you about. But youre not the only one trying to keep pace. Usually youll find yourself as part of a crowd of a dozen+ people also trying to keep pace. Sometimes In tight corridors that are practically single file, where someone needs to stand flat against the wall for you to get past them. This inevitably leads to some pushing and shoving. The first time I partook of this rat race, I was towards the back of the pack and the actor entered a staircase. When I made it to the stairway door, half the crowd had gone downstairs, and half had gone upstairs. Which way was I supposed to go?Browsing the positive reviews , Ive seen the line Youre not supposed to see and understand everything! Its an experience! Well, Sleep No More itself disagrees, and they make that clear when it’s all over and you’re leaving. When youre leaving theyre trying to sell everyone books by saying Are you confused and overwhelmed as to what you just saw?! Do you want to understand what was going on? Do you want to know the reason why you all had to wear masks?! Just buy this book! Its all explained inside! No, Im not joking. They were selling those books while everyone was lining up at coat check. It was a fairly thick book. That is basically an admission of failure as I see it. Admitting a failure to tell a coherant story and have the audience understand what they just saw. Theres another admission of failure though, that I saw as even worse. Ask yourself, when you go to a traditional stage play, how many people leave early, in the fourth, third, or even second act - to hang out in the bar? Not many, right? When I finally gave up on Sleep No More and returned to the bar early, it was already full of other people who had bailed out before me. They even have singers and a band on hand to keep people entertained at the bar while they wait for their friends to get out. So basically, they’ve got a backup piece of entertainment ready to occupy everyone who was so bored and frustrated by what they came to see that they left early. On my way back to the bar I witnessed something truly remarkable. I was walking down one of those cramped hallways, and it was empty. Then a couple holding hands turned a corner walking quickly, and I moved so they could pass. Behind them I could hear the stomping feet of a crowd coming, and I assumed it was another performer being followed. But it wasnt. There was maybe a dozen and a half people rushing ahead, but no cast member not wearing a mask had gone by. Apparently , the couple walking quickly created the impression they were following someone, and so others followed them. Resulting in more than a dozen people chasing after performers who werent even there. Is this really what people have in mind when they buy tickets?

Have done queen of the night and seen nearly all of third rail projects. This was an awful show that was woefully overpriced. The first 35 minutes are spent standing doing almost nothing. Dinner had one good dance routine followed by an onslaught of random jokes. Appetizer consisted of four small shrimp followed by an entre of meat pie--ground beef covered in mashed potatoes. The night was filled with the loud voices of performers yelling for your attention. Acts consisted of 50s and 60s show tunes. Cocktalis were horrible shooters. At $356 for two tickets...this is one of the biggest ripoff nyc has to offer.

Only after we talked I understood how this can be based on Macbeth.I do recommend you to follow the actors! The coat check system was awful and it took me a good 30 mins to get out with my coat.

Very different experience. Two of us enjoyed both the emersive Sleep No More and the dinner party, The Illusionists Table. The emersvive was impressively elaborate and well orchestrated. A unique experience for any adventurous audience. The Illusionists Table was well executed by the facility, but not up to the over $200 price. Best for those intrigued by magic and who enjoy communal dinner approach. While facility is rough; thats what makes it an experience.

Really unique theater experience. Be prepared with decent walking shoes since you will be walking and running around in various paths, including dirt roads. Give yourself 3 hours for a decent experience. No cameras or phones allowed.

Very unusual, but pretty fascinating. Wear comfortable shoes. I think its something that you need to go to a few times to completely understand.

Fantastic venue, fantastic cast and fantastic drink selection. If youre going for Sleep No More, dont be shy exploring all the rooms and always split away from the crowd so you can have a truly unique experience. If youre going to the bar, stay for the music with new bands each night that are sure to please.

This was one of the most bizarre experiences Ive ever had. Go in with no knowledge or expectations and prepare to be wowed. My only criticism is that they admitted too many guests into the experience at once. It was very overcrowded, and many people were just running around, running amok and not being respectful to the experience. Some people even took their masks off or only wore casual clothes which was just not in keeping with the atmosphere. Instead it started to feel more like an amusement park haunted house, than a theatrical experience. I think they really need to clamp down on that behaviour and those people who arent taking the experience seriously.

This place is not suitable for those who have a minor claustrophobia, who cant stand constant 30-32 Celsius in a crowded dark place with limited access to water. It is mainly designed for those who like extreme, crazy, dark places, and shows where you have to run after actors through dark hot rooms. If you lack extreme psychological (sound and visual) effects after which you cant sleep no more, its your place. Not recommended for those who have high emotional intelligence levels and who are in the meantime sensitive. Unless you want to torture yourself. Ps. Youll have to place all your belongings including your bag and mobile phone at the reception. Go to Trip Advisor to read about theft issues. This was the worst theatre experience of my entire life. Yous better spend your money on a nice Broadway show.
