The classy, timeless home of FBI Special Agent Aloysius Xingu Leng Pendergast. I’ve always wanted to visit here after being engrossed in Preston and Child’s thrilling, 20+ book series that follows the adventures of Special Agent Pendergast, Lt. Vincent D’Agosta, Constance Greene, & Proctor. I was glad to finally see this magnificent building in person and to have a friendly chat with the doorman. He encouraged a reading of Jack Finney’s “Time and Again” to get transported back in time and get a look at what it’s like inside The Dakota. Life goal: living here!

Built 1884 - boasts a roll call of the rich and famous - Lauren Bacall owned a nine-room apartment for 53 years that recently sold for $US23.5 million. Other notable residents include author Harlan Coben, U2’s Bono, Rex Reed, Jack Palance, Lillian Gish, Boris Karloff, Rosemary Clooney, Connie Chung, and Maury Povich.

This is quite a building with lovely architecture. I’ve seen it many times in photos and documentaries on John Lennon. But it is really something to see it in real life and a lot larger than it looks on TV. It is very large and majestic, plus it is the place where John Lennon lived in the 1970s and place where he was unfortunately murdered in December 1980.Make sure to go into central park and see the Strawberry Fields forever monument to John Lennon. the entrance to this is across from the Dakota building and is very easy to find.

Amazing place, I am a huge fan of The Dakota for two reason Rosemarys Baby by Roman Polanski and John Lennon . The architecture of this building is beyond amazing and there are many details to the building itself. I would recommend taking a picture from across the street and in the middle. Also dont be afraid to ask for more information on regards to the building.

Not far from the John Lennon memorial and it still took me a minute to realize where it was. I look up to this place a lot as it is where John spent his last days. I would love to go inside, and maybe spend more time to admire these apartments but I was just excited to take a few pictures of this historic landmark. I recommend stopping by if you want a feeling of nostalgia.

Constructed between October 25, 1880, and October 27, 1884. Henry Janeway Hardenberghs architectural firm was commissioned to create the design for Edward Cabot Clark, head of the Singer Manufacturing Company. The building purportedly was named The Dakota because at the time of its construction, the area was sparsely inhabited and considered remote from the inhabited area of Manhattan, just as the Dakota Territory was considered remote.

Historically famous apartment building; think Roman Polanskis Rosemarys Baby and the last residence of John Lennon. Its very easy to find even if its the first time you visit as its listed as a must visit in most guides of NYC. Theres street parking and theres public transportation to this area. This is of course framed by the stunning Central Park. This place is like a pilgrimage site for fans and curious visitors. A landmark worth exploring.

The Dakota⠀An up-scale apartment building in Upper West Side in NYC. One of the landmarks of the city. Designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh in 1880 and fully completed in 1884. It is located at Central Park West and 72nd Street.⠀Hardenbergh left a remarkable imprint on the face of the city. Most of his legacy has been demolished, however, he is mostly famous for block of flats and hotel buildings.⠀There are 65 flats in the Dakota. Each is unique. Inly residents are let in. The building is of German Renaissance Architectural style.⠀Among the Dakota dwellers were the famous Oko and John Lennon, and even Rudolf Nuriyev, a Russian ballet dancer.⠀*They say there is a ghost vagabonding about the apartments.

The building where Roman Polanski shot the amazing movie Rosemarys Baby. One of the most iconic and best horror movies ever made. It is understandable why Roman Polanski chose this building for the satanic cult as it has a nice sinister vibe to it. The building is also famous as John Lennon used to live here before he got shot on the street outside.

Unassuming but historic building, The Dakota was very much the place for many celebrities to live during the 1970s and 1980s. Most famously, of course, was The Beatles John Lennon, who lived there from 1973 for or 7 years until his murder under the buildings archway in 1980. Across the road, in Central Park, the mosaic Strawberry Fields, just a short walk away lays in tribute to Lennon.
