Love it here. As an aerospace major I love for this exposure to aircraft and military weaponry in the city. Truly a unique experience with one of a kind aircraft, a submarine, and space shuttle. Tons of activities beyond the aircraft like rock climbing within the ship. What needs a desperate improvement is the food. Very basic, and mediocre taste (Was disappointed by the Mac and cheese there personally).Overall, a must go, but bring a sandwich :)

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum was a nice visit. PROS: Lots to see, wheelchair accessible, close to various parking garages, public restrooms, food venues (limited due to covid), and friendly staff. CONS: Only a small portion of the aircraft carrier is actually viewable, Obnoxious security check-in, and children cannot be carried through the Growler submarine tour. We enjoyed the visit but weren’t blown away by the experience. Battleship Cove in Massachusetts is a much more enjoyable museum for the simple fact that you can see so much more of the battleship.

Well designed walk-through. Similar to other military ship tours, of course. If you have never done that then this is a good opportunity. I was more interested in seeing the space shuttle up close and was not disappointed. There is a large exhibit space in the ship which gives a good impression of the sheer size of the ship but I think that is better appreciated from the outside. The airplanes on the deck are also interesting. I did not visit the submarine anchored next to the Intrepid due to lack of time but would recommend you visit it based on my experience viewing other subs in the past. Friendly staff.

If you are an aviation enthusiast like I am this is where you definitely want to check out. The air and space museum is housed inside the Intrepid. On the top level deck there is a really cool plane called the SR-22 Blackbird. Be sure to read the history about it because you will be blown away when you find out what year it was developed. This is a great museum for our community and I think that it’s appropriate for all ages. We will be back

Fun for any age and worth another visit. I felt very important sitting in the Captains chair, then like a kid playing with the large mounted guns on the deck (although not childs play in its time) and intrigued by the historical presentation on the impact of space travel on every day life. The culinary /cake tour has a receipt on a chocolate cake, no big deal... However, a chocolate cake for 3,000 sailors... Thats impressive!

A must thing to do in the City. A staple to the waterfront since 1982. Historic for the Intrepids role in history of the Navy and its longevity to the NYC waterfront. The contributions the aircraft on the flight deck, the Concord on the Pier & the Space shuttle in the pavilion on the stern adds further significant to the aircraft carrier. It also adds to the overall value and character of the West Side. Gift shop has a good assortment of gifts albiet at high prices. Typical security screening before entering. A good two hours or more is needed to take in all of the exhibits and helpful staff.

A fascinating look at the technology that has been put to use by our military and the some of the civilian advancements as a result. The Space Shuttle program alone has offered hundreds of products and processes that make our everyday life better. And who knew what it took to feed the crew if the Intrepid three meals a day. What an amazing experience. Situated on Pier 86 amongst the city skyline sits the USS Intrepid CV-11. This decommissioned aircraft carrier allows one for the price of admission to peruse at your own pace, a piece of quickly forgotten history. Where else on planet earth can you see a F-14 sitting alongside a MiG 21 and a A-12/SR-71? On on a carrier at that? If that were not enough, after hours of going from flight decks to living quarters, you can look at the space shuttle Enterprise, which is parked in the back. Want a break from the bustle of city life, and get a chance to touch a part of history without the massive crowds? Then this is your place to reminiscence about why we are free to do so today.

I salute the brave soldiers who served here. Visiting these places fills you with a sense a pride and it really wouldn’t matter which country you belong to, you will have a great time here. The decommissioned Intrepid and decommissioned nuclear submarine Growler should be top on the list to visit in NY. Enterprise, the 1st spaceship to orbit the earth is also stationed here. The ship has so much on it you can do and see in addition to the planes. Simulators, educational areas, learn about space travel, etc. Be warned some of these cost extra such as the simulator. There is also a nuclear submarine you can visit but he warned it is quite cramped and narrow inside so not for the claustrophobic.Disappointingly there is no cafe on site (hence one star off) which is an oversight considering you could spend hours there if you decide to do and see everything available.Early morning is best time to go. If you want to do the interactive stuff get there early. We were told the wait was 45 minutes to use the tickets I bought for the Interactive Virtual Reality ride, so I ended up giving them away. In hindsight if I knew that I would have gotten there early and went straight for that first. Other than that everything was fantastic. The huge LEGO ship is a replica of the Intrepid from WW2. They had a movie play at one point explaining the history of exhibits and it really made you feel a deep respect for those who serve and have served this Country.

I visited this Air and Space Museum while visiting the New York area in November. It is located along the Hudson River and well worth visiting. They have an impressive group of military equipment including an aircraft carrier and post World War Two submarine. There are also a number of airplanes and helicopters on the deck of the aircraft carrier. If you have never been on an aircraft carrier this is you chance to learn how large this key to winning of World War Two was. It is an impressive city on the water that contains thousands of sailors and was very important during the Cold War and is still very important. The fee to see this museum is reasonable and if you are a veteran, there is no fee. I would recommend that you spend at least three hours during your visit as there is so much to see. This included a visit to the inside of the submarine and also the interior of the aircraft carrier. There are also guides that will explain about each of the areas you visit on the aircraft carrier. Also the submarine has excellent diagrams about the history of this important navy ship and explain how they were able to save it from the scrap yard and bring it from the west coast near Seattle to its final resting place here in New York City. I can not recommend a visit to this museum enough. As an American we have all paid for each of these military items and they are one of the reasons that we are a great country and survive in a world full of challenges for a democracy.

Visitors to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum can experience a legendary aircraft carrier, the first space shuttle, the world’s fastest jets, and a Cold War-era submarine. Welcoming more than a million visitors a year, the museum employs history and technology to inspire and advance innovation by developing the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math.  The former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid was launched in 1943 and fought in World War II, surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. It was decommissioned in 1974, and today is berthed on the Hudson River. You get the chance to visit 4 decks of this great ship. The Shuttle Pavilion shows Enterprise, the prototype NASA orbiter that paved the way for the space shuttle program. Dynamic exhibit zones feature original artifacts, photographs, audio, and films that immerse visitors in the science and history of Enterprise and the space shuttle era. Growler first opened at the Intrepid Museum in 1989 and is the only American strategic missile submarine open to the public. In The Skies guides tour, you will learn about the history of Intrepid from 1943 to 1974 and beyond. Explore the hangar deck, where aircraft were maintained and stored, and the flight deck, where thousands of aircraft were launched, and hear stories from the ship’s history. Choose the tour of the Concorde to take off on a unique exploration of the Concorde, the fastest commercial aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean. This tour offers guests the rare opportunity to enjoy the comfort of the Concorde’s first-class cabin and get an up-close look inside its sophisticated flight deck. Recommended for ages 10+. Visitors younger than five will not be permitted on this tour. Multilingual Audio Tours available onsite in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese. These Audio Tours immerse you in the Intrepid adventure. As you walk the ship, hear from the pilots and crew members who were here during her greatest days. All bags and/or camera cases will be inspected prior to entering the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Personal wheelchairs and traditional electric assistance scooters are welcome at the museum. Please note that there are areas of the museum that are not wheelchair accessible, as they require guests to navigate stairs and ladders, and there can be long periods of walking & standing. An unforgettable experience for all ages!

My only gripe is that when it started to rain, at closing time, they were not really prepared for the crowds that were waiting out the rain, in the doorway. I visited the Intrepid in January. We prebooked our tickets and were surprised at the queue we had to get into. Another queue alongside us appeared to have priority so not sure how that worked? We eventually got in and started looking at the planes on the flight deck of the intrepid. They have some interesting planes and helicopters positioned there. At the seaward end they have the space exhibition which is housed in a building placed on top of the deck. Inside this building is what I guess a lot of people want to see - the Space Shuttle. It was a lot bigger than I expected. This was especially so when you saw the Russian space vehicle which was incredibly small in contrast.A visit up to the bridge was followed by a visit to the storage deck which has been converted into a great exhibition area with one area where children can actually get to experience things like the sleeping arrangements on a submarine or working the controls on a helicopter. There are 3 virtual reality rides that are about $11.00 a person. I would suggest that you try all three of these VR experiences because they will enhance your experience. As for the museum itself ..... it’s pretty cool. There is a lot of ground to cover so wear comfortable shoes . Also , prepare to get your feet stepped on and get skipped in line by little children who are super excited to explore the museum .The bathrooms are kind of clean, but I blame the people who use the bathroom and don’t clean after themselves , not the workers . People are nasty !All in all I had fun , but I probably won’t need to return to this museum for a few years.

Dont miss it if at all interested in aviation. Superb and surprisingly rich collection including the SR71 and space shuttle among many, many other aircraft.

We spent around 4 hours here having a great time. All the exhibits, right from the aircraft carrier itself to the Growler submarine, to the many planes on the deck, the space shuttle to the Concorde, the interactive gallery, interaction with ex servicemen, everything was fun and insightful. Kids enjoyed the whole thing a lot.

I had a great time at this museum - there’s different sections and each has its own unique experience to offer. I personally really enjoyed the submarine experience cause it gives you a great idea of life in the sub. A lot will require you to be outdoors so warm weather makes it pretty rough when touring the ship. Definitely worthwhile experience

This is a fun museum, and can occupy several hours during your visit to New York. The growler and the Concorde were two of my favourite things to experience during this visit. I would highly recommend paying the extra and taking this tour. There are 4 simulators as well, but 3 were a bit lame. 1 of them is a really cool experience.

Intrepid was a great museum for lovers of military history; specifically the navy and the air force. Being able to stand on a real aircraft carrier that saw service, while learning about its history and how it works, was an awesome experience that I had been looking forward to for a while. Theyve got an exhibit on the Enterprise Space Shuttle, as well as many USAF and USN aircraft on the flight deck.

Surprisingly impressive! I had been told by some that this would be a boring experience, but it was FAR from that.A superb insight into American and other nations Naval and Air Force history. The submarine was particularly impressive and a very unique experience to walk around.

A very interesting museum, you can not miss it if you are visiting NYC. Also you will love it no matter your age. If you are claustrophobic I tell you that you may not enjoy it as much as the biggest attraction is inside the boat and a submarine and I do not think its to your liking. If you do not mind being in narrow places, you will enjoy it.

This is an awesome museum! Especially if you love military aircraft, or even commercial aircraft with the Concord being there!Overall the experience here was awesome!Going through the submarine Is really cool! And then getting to get up close to the Concord is awesome too!And then Intrepid itself is the best!We went on to one of the simulators which was a blast! And also got to go and see The planetarium show too!One of the biggest highlights for me on the ship is the small historical shows that happened in the middle of the ship.It gets you to feel so involved in what happened! Especially when they go into the details of you being stood in the exact place where certain things happened!Highly recommend this place! But get there early as you will suddenly here the call that they are closing and you realise youve managed to spend the whole day there. But its definitely worth it!

Great displays and educational material for the ship in the hangar deck. Cool planes on the flight deck though some are in need of some refurbishment. Space shuttle Enterprise is a nice display even if it is just an approach and landing test vehicle not a flown in space shuttle

Outstanding. The museum is impressive, most of the collection is painstakingly restored and maintained. Totally worthy and a must for every NYC visitor.
