Closed until further notice. I tried calling earlier today, but no one picked up. Didnt really want to travel over here to be let down with a close, but it happened. And their website doesnt indicate it to be closed whatsoever...even though the website is posted everywhere. It was a beautiful say today, so it wasnt as bad.

Life long New Yorker, first time ever coming to see this beautiful jewel of a home. Loved it, def agree with others - get there early for the tour with the rangers - otherwise you are walking on your own not really sure of all the great history. Came on Easter weekend and it was packed. Train stop is a only a few blocks away - all in all I loved it - Im a NY history nut so this is right up my alley. Great 15 min video on the Hamilton.

I was disappointed with my visit. In my opinion an important historical landmark has not been adequately restored. The only part of the house restored to some form of its original use is the second floor but the restoration did not even encompass the entire second story living space. Three third floor which was the bedroom areas had not been restored and is office space for the employees and is not open to the public. In one area on the second floor that was not restored I felt a rotten floor board break as I walked through the carpeted room. It shows a lack of upkeep and deterioration of the house from lack of care in my opinion.I felt the displays on the first floor were lacking and not very interesting. The wait can be a bear. Only 6 people are allowed to tour the second floor at a time and no time limit is given so if you have slow visitors ahead of an annoying visitor that wants to ask the park rangers a bunch of questions you may be waiting a while. Im still glad I went but I wish the house was more cared for and expanded for public view.

My love and I were in town to visit a friend and we planned on stopping by - as big fans of the musical we wanted to stop by the only national monument dedicated entirely to Hamilton! We both really enjoyed it. The staff were quite kind and the exhibits and video were fun to watch. We were able to go in the self-guided tour too. If youre going, make sure you give yourself time. Access to the house is somewhat limited, so give yourself time to sign up for the tour. Its a great glimpse into the life of a Founding Father.

Very nice but small museum in the basement of the house. The video was well done and very informative. They have tours and open houses for the upstairs. We took a tour and enjoyed it very much. The space is small and the tour is short but still worth doing. Some of the furniture and accessories are reproductions but many are original. The only negative is they will not allow you to go to the second story due to no secondary exit. I know this is not their fault but a result of safety regulations. Still disappointing.

At one end of St. Nicholas Park, Hamiltons old home sits on where his original property was (a little moved given the history, but still on his original parcel). Free tours regularly, and programs and exhibits available. Subway and a short walk to get there in Harlem.

This is a must see historical gem in the city. It unlocks a wealth of information critical to the creation of this country and arguably the most consequential and forward-thinking Founding Father who laid a lasting foundation for an immensely powerful United States to emerge. It is also an architectural treasure, its type rarely preserved in New York City and we are eternally grateful for it! The house was thankfully moved to a very appropriate location where it can recapture some of its past glory. The exterior is due for some touch-up woodwork and paint though.

Loved getting to have a glimpse into a Founding Fathers home. However, I give it slightly lower marks since you get to see only half of the house (upstairs off limits for multiple, albeit good, reasons). Regardless, Im very glad we made the effort to visit. Nice, small museum area in the basement with a 15-min American History video you can watch. A second, shorter video you watch on the tour is fascinating and all about the two moves the house has made over the years. The most recent move (around 2008) was particularly amazing... They lifted it over a church and down the street to get to the hill its on now; wow!

A visit to Alexander Hamiltons home is a lesson in history that you will not soon forget. The onsite staff and rangers served as a fountain of knowledge and enlightenment. Although only two floors are open to the public, it is still very much worth the visit. There is a short but well produced video that outlines the history of Hamiltons life from a sad upbringing to the formation of the key figure we he is now recognized as.

Its baffling that this place isnt flooded with tourists. FREE to visit and go on a guided or self-guided tour of U.S. founding father Alexander Hamiltons home. Both paid and volunteer staff very knowledgeable. First floor is gift shop/traditional museum exhibit, second floor has three rooms of the house decorated in recreation of the time. Absolutely beautiful. I was stunned that Ive lived around the corner from this house for a year and jogged in St. Nicholas Park weekly before ever setting foot inside. Im so glad I did. Theres been a huge to-do about the Hamilton musical creating a genuine interest in U.S. political history and its helping young audiences connect with these stories, and rightly so. I must add that theres nothing like actually seeing and smelling the wood and hearing the creaking of a founding fathers residence, the place where his family lived, and where he worked and made political and military decisions. The energy in this place is palpable! From the dining room to what may have been the servants quarters or pantry, it was great fuel for the imagination. I was sad to learn that funding for this piece of history is not enough, and may even be in jeopardy. Go here ASAP!

I visited Hamilton Grange before the National Park Service moved it from its previous location. I find it moving that one of our Founding Fathers had once lived there and was a prominent New Yorker. My interest in the formative years of the United States Government led me in this journey to learn more about this proponent of a strong central government. As you can see, his legacy still lives on today in Washington, D.C.

The Hamilton Grange does a superb job of balancing the need to explain this giant of historys achievements with what this house actually was: a retreat for a very busy man with a family. Rather than being solely a monument, or just a museum piece, the Grange is presented in such a way that I had a sense of what life must have been like in there. There is a short movie about Hamiltons life that does a good job of situating Hamiltons place in the pantheon of the Founding Fathers. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The staff is courteous and welcoming.Highlights:• appropriate for children.• must-see attraction for anyone with an interest in American History.• Beautiful surroundings.• Nearby a bevy of restaurants and coffee shops as well as City College.

Really great place. This is Alexander Hamiltons house, built around 1802 on his land in the Grange. The location makes it feel like it would back when he lived there. Nice exhibit and video in the basement level, and a nice look around the period first floor. The top floor is closed. Fun time had by all. Dont miss the old location next to the church, where a really nice Hamilton statue stands.
