Front desk attendant charged us $34 for 2 people, then turns around and charges the next couple behind us $32 for the same entry. When I confront her about the discrepancy, she says it was an accident and should have charged them the same as us. She didn’t offer a credit for the same amount.Essentially, told us it was an accident, but in truth, we were taken advantage of bc we looked different than the people behind us. This place is no where near as cool as the Hollywood location. Stay away, the customer service is terrible and will try to take advantage of tourist any chance they have.

Not worth the admission fee. Most items are from American culture, and I quickly found myself bored with it all. It is filled with artifacts from serial killers, like a prison jumpsuit worn by Charles Manson. Because the items are behind glass, I don’t see the difference between seeing them in this museum for $25 and viewing them on the internet for basically free. I can understand the appeal for southern baptists coming down from the hills, who want a sPoOkY New Orleans story for their friends in bible study. Personally, I wish I had spent that money on pancakes.

With a name like that, the Museum of Death has a lot to live up to. Definitely one of the weirdest museums in the capital of the strange, the Museum of Death is not a subtle place. I visited in March 2017 while on a book research trip for Valley of Dry Bones. The Museum of Death originates from a San Diego art gallery after its founders decided that people had become too distanced from death. On display, you’ll find body bags, coffins, old mortician equipment, photographs from crime scenes and morgues, images of the Manson Family, and much more. The self-guided tour lasts 45 minutes, although visitors are welcome to stay for as long as they can stand it.

I love the general idea and the museums content was great but I was a little disappointed as it was so much smaller than the one in LA. My expectations were it would be of similar size but with maybe a few different focused exhibition rooms but this was not the case. Love the idea so much and still enjoyed my trip, just wish it had more to it.

I feel like this is the kind of place to go if youre the type of person who refuses to read books without pictures, not that theres anything wrong with that. Although there is a lot of text, its random and all over the place. You would be better off googling everything on display and that would give you a better explanation on what it is. A lot of the items are placed in an almost random order and feel like theyre there for the sake of it. I wouldnt suggest going out of your way to visit this place, even if you have a fascination with death, but if you happen to be passing by and need to kill 15 minutes, then this place is recommended.

What a great place for those who are into serial killers and early and old concepts of death. There are no pictures allowed once inside the main museum to preserve the artifacts. They have diaries and court proceedings/interviews from the Dahmer case that you can look through. Its on the small side but took a while to go through the greats stuff they have. The old embalming tools and old pictures were really cool. Loved this place and it really provided a lot of information on famous cases. There is also a movie room and had great momentos to buy.

I was really looking forward to visiting here, but was very underwhelmed. Staff were friendly and stored our back packs for us. The items on display at the museum were a bit boring if Im honest. Many displays lacked information, yet walls are plastered with text. It felt more like a death themed cafe that you cant eat in. The movie being displayed out the back was graphic, but many videos were old and blurry and very off-putting fun music playing throughout the screening. There were a group of guys behind us that were clearly struggling with the graphic nature, and one girl ran from the room. But for my partner and I, we found it uninteresting and lacking context. I did comment on the need for more context to the guys at the front desk and they said that they deliberately dont include it. The museum itself was laid through several rooms, with clear sections, but the items themselves in these sections were mishmashed at times, or unlabelled (eg below a wood board with holes in it that had a description, there was a suitcase, with no explanation to the suitcase). Walls are plastered with letters and envelopes for serial killers that felt more like a shrine than education about death. Needs a lot more information for it to call itself a museum.

This place was fantastic and fully lived up to my expectations. I recommend reading information on their website before going if youre easily disturbed. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Some negative reviews on here are comical due to them complaining about graphic images of death, when its literally a Museum of Death. It has detailed information on serial killers - including some lesser-known ones - graphic photos, and TVs that play various relevant tapes. Its a self-guided tour and I spent hours here. Again, if youre easily disturbed or cant comprehend that a Museum of Death will include things revolving around death, this isnt for you; but if you have an interest in educating yourself on various aspects of death, this place is magnificent.

The Museum of Death is an interesting hole in the wall attraction. It contains gruesome artifacts all revolving around the concept of death. Theres letters from serial killers, artifacts from the Waco Standoff, shrunken heads, and all sorts of gore. They have a movie playing in the back of the museum showing what you would normally see on Live Leak, which wasnt terribly impressive. MOD has a ton of content but they lack organization. The exhibits do not flow well together and it makes your visit seem choppy. This makes the $15 entry fee seem pretty steep for what you get. Hopefully they can revamp their exhibits and make the exhibit flow a little better but I would reccomend staying away from this establishment.

TL;DRDo Go if you enjoy true crime, serial killers, and sensationalized death.Dont Go if you actually want to learn stuff at a museum.I find a lot about death interesting, such as burial practices and history, and was especially hoping to learn more about that in relation to New Orleans. Id visited the Pharmacy Museum a few days before (five stars!) and I really enjoyed the combination of artifacts and information. Topics were organized in a logical fashion and even ones I thought I wouldnt have cared about piqued my curiosity. So I was really looking forward to this museum doing the same. And there were portions that did. I really enjoyed the exhibits on embalming and funerary equipment. But many exhibits were not organized or presented in a way that helped people learn, like the serial killer exhibit. There was no obvious flow to the room. In the section with newspapers from mass shootings and bombings, events were not presented in order and some were scattered in between others, and nothing was labeled. And there were a few photographs in the funerary photographs section that looked really interesting but didnt seem to be connected to anything at all.The Theater of Death in the back was also a disappointment - when we were there it appeared to be short video clips of people getting killed, which can also be found on the internet for free (not that I stuck around longer than 2 seconds to know for sure). What about a short video showing us those serial killer artifacts with a voice over so the info can be more accessible and maybe even more macabre and creepy than hanging on the wall?I think I wanted this place to be a museum more than it actually was one. The Weekly World News and New York Post clippings on the wall should have tipped me off.

Have you ever wanted to throw away $15.00? Well if your answer to that question is Yes, I have then you should purchase an admission ticket to the Museum of Death.Visitors arent allowed to take pictures within the museum-- well, duh! Because that would reveal how much of a money-stealing scheme this place is.Okay, so the Museum of Death is essentially a medium-sized room, split up into exhibits that are separated by shower curtains. And the exhibits are all just a collection of old newspaper clippings and low-quality photographs posted on a display board-- honestly, it looks like a future mass shooters makeshift bedroom decor. If you truly want to waste $15.00, buy yourself a Voodoo amulet blessed for the prevention of bad decisions.

This place has promise; however, I have a few complaints. My wife and I felt like the museum was very scattered. We wanted to learn more about death, but what we felt like they did was awkwardly fetishize serial killers without exploring the different elements of death and how living people come to terms it. If their intent was to focus on serial killers, they could have expanded more upon those stories. There were several serial killers who were featured in the museum with no real back story, and I didn’t understand the importance of the pieces. For those who did have a written back story, we had to spend some time reading a 1+ page description. There are a number of ways to die, and we aren’t sure why there was such an emphasis on serial killers. Also, there were exhibits with zero explanation, like the penitentiary ID badge. Also, I’m not sure why the videos in the theater were all just dead people. We wanted something more. Something more informative. If you want to see a better and more entertaining museum of death, we recommend Trundle Manor of Pittsburgh.

If you like this sort of thing its worth going to. Very dark (unsurprisingly). Not like the Museum of Death in Los Angeles (which felt a bit more historic and less graphic for the sake of graphic-ness). The museum has great parts and some oh-god-i-feel-nauseous-just-looking-at-that. Its fine, just be prepared and make sure that is what youre wanting.
