This museum is a little gem - if you can find it. You have to pass through guardhouse security right off the road to get it, but it is sure worth it. The museum was completely renovated after Hurricane Katrina and is more exhibits are being added. They do a tremendous job in two areas. First is the Louisiana National Guards response to Katrina and second the LNGs involvement in each war time effort of our country. The men and women of the National Guard are truly unsung heroes. Thank you for your service.

Excellent museum to see if you have access to a car. Lots of things to see. Museum is free (although I highly recommend making a donation). Good source of respectful Katrina history. Many restored military vehicles.

What a wonderful museum located inside an active National Guard barrack. Google Maps direction is slightly misleading and will try to get you to enter through W. Judge Perez Dr. to the north, but the actual entrance is to the south through St. Claude Ave. You will be able to enter this secure facility after going through a military grade check point where you will be required to present a photo I.D. There was zero signage to help you find the actual museum after entering the base. Park to the set of parking spaces immediately to the left, the museum is located in the first building on the left, and youll pass through this beautiful fountain courtyard (which you are not allowed to take a photo of) on your way to the entrance. While I was photographing, I was made aware that there are some rules about taking pictures here. Due to security reasons, limit your photos to the artifacts on the grounds and within the museum itself. Avoid taking pictures of the actual physical structure and structural details of the buildings. Otherwise, this was a beautifully curated museum with a very moving display of the National Guards efforts during Hurricane Katrina that is a must see. The second floor of the museum was still being setup when I visited and there are plenty of larger military artifacts located outside the museum. Hopefully this review will help you avoid making the same mistakes that I did while visiting this place...

Great museum, curator was very helpful, went above and beyond on a Saturday afternoon to show us around and give us a detailed tour of the facility. Lots of history here, they are in the process of adding more exhibits.

Had not seen US history from mainly a Louisiana perspective & learned a few things! Hurricane Katrina was highlighted & had good information as well as first hand accounts in media presentations. The woman working at the museum was very nice & welcoming. There was a lot to see outside also; millitary planes, weapons, vehicles. Well maintained, the grounds were attractive.

A great museum! So many tanks and planes! Kids will love it. There is an excellent section regarding Hurricane Katrina and the role of the LA National Guard during the recovery. We will definitely be back!

Museum is beautifully done. Layout has a nice flow. 2005 Hurricane operations tells a true story. Have yet to explore the second floor, but expect more of the same as level of quality and positioning of artifacts.

It has a large amount of military pieces to look at outside the museum to include several pieces that used to be operated by the 141 FA BN that still operates out of the facility. I have yet to visit inside the museum but I have only heard good things. This museum is only large enough to take up a couple hours time and should not be planned as a day trip in my opinion.
