Fantastic experience. I understand its the biggest insect zoo in the US, and its very well done. All different kinds of creepy-crawlies, with interesting information, often done in a fun and quirky way (just wait until you see the cockroach exhibit). There are also some animals besides insects, like small gators and turtles. The butterfly garden is the highlight, saved until the very end, and you can spend a good hour in there without even realizing it. Ideal location right at the edge of the French Quarter. Well worth the price of admission. Theres a modest AAA discount, and good combination discounts if you also want to go to the aquarium.

Very interesting place to visit. Has loads of exhibits in a medium sized building. In walking distance of the Aquarium with signs leading the way. The Butterfly Room was very cool. Be careful when inside, Butterflies will land on you. Watch toddlers closely. The Ant Hill room is neat also. A very unique design.

Very informative, kept us cool for a good 3 hours. My 8 year old loved it. They have a butterfly house, a 4-d movie, and a cafe where you can try bugs for free.. (yes to eat) my 8 year old was brave and tasted it like a charm! I highly recommend. FYI, no firearms in this building as it is owned by the customs building..

This placed is as little pricey if you just go here. If you buy the annual pass for all three locations, including the zoo and the aquarium, its not so bad - especially for a large family. It is worth doing at least once. It doesnt take a long time to go through the whole museum. The bug food samples are pretty cool. Theres a pretty good 4D movie thats about 10 minutes. The butterfly room is really neat.

For a first time experience, this was a very enjoyable place. Even if you’re not that much into bugs and stuff, there’s still things that can interest you. The place is very clean and big. I like how everything there has a plaque to explain exactly what you are looking for instead of just randomly placed bugs and stuff. Highly recommended.

Audubon gives a nice display of the insect world around us. It gives a lot of information about the various insects. For a garden in the middle of the city its a nice size. But the Butterfly garden in the end is, Besides the insect food tasting, definitely the highlight of your visit. A lot of the bugs are displayed, I had hoped to see more living insects.

Exhibits were both interesting. Lots of roaches! All sorts of interesting bugs and some other Louisiana wildlife like gators and fish. The little kids in our group (under 2) enjoyed but did not hold their attention like the aquarium did. A bit young still for this one. The butterfly garden was very cool. Wear bright clothes and sit still and they will visit you. Please give me a like if you find this review helpful.

This place may gross you out, but my toddler is really into bugs right now so my wife and I thought it would be a great educational experience. The Insectarium is, of course, not as large as the Audobon Zoo, but there are a number of exhibits and a wide variety of bugs. There are also a lot of interactive exhibits, including an area where you can pet a caterpillar and other insects. At the end, there is a lovely Butterfly Garden set up in the theme of a Japanese garden that is a nice way to end your visit. If you have any interest in visiting here and the zoo, I would recommend looking into one of the membership pass options. Otherwise tickets costs can add up quickly depending on the size of your party.

This is a great escape from the typical New Orleans experience. The museum itself is interesting and interactive, for both the young and old. Very informative in the context of Louisiana! The Butterfly Garden was lovely, and a lot of fun. I loved the Japanese Garden theme. Please be aware that this museum is in a federal building so you do have to go through a metal detector and have your bags pass through a xray.

Ok guys, bugs creep me out, BUT I LOVE this place. We come here at least once a week when were in town. When its 90 degrees out, this place is perfect. Air conditioned, lots of interesting stuff to touch and look at. My 4yo stays occupied and interested the entire time. And I find something new every time. Its more interesting than yucky. The ants and the millipedes are my favorites. The staff seem to actually like kids, very friendly and engaging. The place is super clean. Lots of places to sit. Wheelchair accessible/handicap friendly. There are well stocked vending machines and a Cafe that gives out tasty samples of bugs to eat. Over 2 years, Ive grown brave enough to try everything. The Butterfly Garden is lovely with a cute little Koi Pond. The butterflies will often land on you. Theres what my kid calls the Quiet Part for Grown ups, its a lovely art gallery style area that we never spend enough time in. I could say another hundred things about this place. You should 100% go. And its close to Canal Street and the Streetcar and Downtown.HINT for FAMILIES: We bought an Audubon Membership because between here, the Aquarium of the Americas, and the Aydubon Zoo, it saves us money based on the frequency we go.HINT FOR GROWNUPS: this place is great even without kids. Ive had a fun giggly time there with my friends. This would make a cute place for a daytime date.I think this may be my favorite nonfood/alcohol place in New Orleans.

Im so glad that Audubon society FINALLY made this place affordable for the residents of the city. The shake-down airport security treatment is a bit excessive and quite unnecessary. The excuse is that it USED to be a federal government building...but the post offices are too, but no one gets that treatment there! Its an insect place, for crying out loud, so NO NEED for that mess. Its beautiful overall, but the security measures are over the top though. Its right on CANAL STREET, so if a person is packing, its most possibly out of need, NOT because they want to rob the butterflies, LOL.

Worth it. It was truly a nice experience, took my mother and grandmother (whom can’t walk for too long) and this was the perfect place for her. It’s short and small but long enough to spend more than 2 hours admiring butterflies and insects. I’ve posted a few pictures which I appreciated from there (the butterflies and Koi fishes). Best part is hands down the Japanese inspired Butterfly Garden. Very tranquil, humid but the butterflies make you forget that.

I visited the Insectarium on a Thursday afternoon and had a great experience! They weren’t super busy and I was able to take my time in each exhibit, overall I spent about 2 hours here. This is such a great experience! The kids love it! They have many great displays and really lets the kids focus on the small things. They have a walk through in a fake cave. Some kids may get scared going inside. Its pretty dark in places and the are huge fake bugs all over. One area has a giant spider that pops out of the wall. At first it scares my little one but it quickly became her favorite thing. They can also climb in there. Then there are other interactive areas. There are so many different and interesting insects to look at and learn about. Some stations let you touch them.Definitely be careful in the butterfly garden. Butterflies are delicate and no one is supposed to touch them or try and catch them. If they land on you that is fine. Definitly keep an eye on younger kids. When walking into and out of the butterfly garden they blow a fan on you to make sure the butterflies dont leave. If someone has a phobia of insects or butterflys just know this part of the insectarium is not contained. Meaning the butterflies can and will land on you or fly past you.

A nice reprieve from the heat and noise of Bourbon St. in a very central location. Most of the exhibits are designed for children and a little bland other than the few live bug exhibits, but the Butterfly garden is the real star. Really fun and unique experience for anyone interested in learning just a little more about our planet and the residents that surround us. From a cafe that serves interesting, bug-cuisine to a peaceful, awe-inspiring butterfly haven it doesnt disappoint. Some of the insects can be a bit intimidating to folks with phobias but mostly every aspect of the bug-world is presented in a friendly and informational way.For those who love irony, many exhibits are sponsored by various local exterminators. The insectarium is extensive though not as huge as the aquarium. We visited comfortably in just about 1.5 hours and it was very enjoyable. It is certainly an uncommon place to add to the traditional aquarium trip.Pro Tip: Annual memberships are not too much more costly than a single-day ticket and offer admission to the zoo, insectarium and aquarium, discounts, parking and lots of other fabulous benefits. If you can, defintitely do the upgrade and enjoy a great day trip as many times as you want for the next year for just a small increase. Plus, buying a membership helps support the Audubon Nature Institute in a variety of endeavors.
