I’m sure it would have been neat to see. Got within 1 minute according to my GPS coming from New Orleans and the road was impassable. Marsh on both sides and the water was way up and completely covering the road. Decided to be safe and turn around. Check weather and tides before going!

Im sure we were trespassing although I didnt notice a sign. Gorgeous old fort. I suggest long pants and a decent pair of shoes/boots. Its muddy.

I dont know why they are letting this go to rot. It looks like its still an adequate shape but you cant get to it.

Cool spot! The gate was locked but you can still get a pretty good view of the fort from across the water.

Wish we could have gotten closer to see. Unfortunately one path was inaccessible from rain the day before and there was a locked gated fence on the path indicated on the map.

Neat little spot to pull over and see. I absolutely love exploring old military forts. They are so interesting and historical, love learning and seeing the ways it used to be. With this fort we could only see it from a distance, there was no way for us to go in. Still very neat to see though.

Closed to the public, looks like for a long time, need to do some more research to see if group or the state is working towards opening it again.

Could only do a drive-by because we got there after closing, but it looks like a pretty cool stop as you drive through the Louisiana swamps.

We were hoping to stay somewhere with a bit of local character and history, and I admit the place definitely had a uniquely rustic feel to it, but the service left a lot to be desired, and folks running through the corridors yelling at all hours made it *really* hard to get any sleep. On top of that we were told it was an all-inclusive deal, but if you could have seen what passed for a breakfast buffet in this place, youd have wept. Im guessing the place has gone downhill since it was originally recommended; either way, both the place and its reputation are desperately in need of repair.

If this is an example of how the state maintains property then it should be sold off to someone who will invest and care for it.Pathetic oversight.

Had to crawl through a fence a to get into this closed down fort. The fort is in complete disrepair and even appears to have someone living inside it. Horse flies were awful. Millions of them.
