I had one of my best New Orleans experiences at the Frenchmen Art Market. My husband and I found the artists very approachable and happy to discuss their work. One photographer spent a long time talking with us when we asked about the subjects in some of his photos - we were so enchanted by his photographs that we bought several. A very laid back, cool vibe where you can browse, ask questions, be curious, and appreciate what the local artist community has to offer.

Love this space! Great for events! Weddings would be awesome in this space. Went for a play during infringe and my only sadness was that the AC was pretty loud. Would suggest mic and PA for plays or spoken word if the AC cant be turned off. I bet live music is great there too.

Fun, unique, outdoor market. Full of work by local artists, including jewelry, photographs, paintings and many unique items. Worth visiting, even if you’re just browsing. Stop by here as you’re walking through Frenchman street. Probably not worth visiting in bad weather and there’s no parking or washrooms.

Not as big as I was led to believe. Lot of local artists and a good variety of artistic mediums. Only downside is almost everyone expects way more than is reasonable. Same prices inside the brick and mortar galleries as the street artists outside (not the same quality/skill though)

The Art Garage has a capacious space where artists can table while events progress. Local authors gathered to read aloud on a lousy microphone before a huge, elephant painted white. Rather than read from published or work in progress, everyone read from protest literature from the past. One earnest guy read aloud from a journalistic account, day by day with Benito Mussolini. One person tended a pop up bar. Five tables sold jewelry or books. A photographer had a book called True South documenting the homeless people of the bayou parishes. We rapped about solving the twin issues of drug addiction and homelessness. He was very interested in the Sami, a nomadic people in Finland where all the towns went dry in a single winter, thanks to a minister of the Lutheran Church who finally got it and delivered a message that worked to his flock. He made notes. Thank goodness a woman listening to us talk bought a copy. I hear it a lot. Thanks for shilling. Thats me. Will the Shill.Yes, these are pop-ups where the artists pay a small fee to set up a table. However, there is always an event with purpose occurring in the space, a turntablist spinning discs at least. The bathrooms are not public, but the Hi Ho lounge across Marigny Street didnt seem to mind if a flaneur ducks into the loo from a party at Art Garage. Hi Ho staff cant keep up with the drinking customers and the doorman are just monitoring the peace. Ive sat and drank a street beer, a can of ling ling, sitting on the outdoor deck. Just so Big Easy. If there were a place to shower and sleep, I might live there.

My wife and I got a little tipsy on Frenchman St and then stumbled into the art market. We bought 2 pieces that we probably would not have completely sober (we are frugal). But we are SO glad we had the liquid courage to make those purchases. The art and photography here are so amazing and it feels great to support local artisits.

A hidden gem!!! It feels like a scene out of Spirited Away. During the day its closed off by an unattractive, wooden gate, but at night it opens up to a magical land of art and fun.
