Guthrie Contemporary is by far one of the top ten galleries in all of New Orleans. Although it may not be on Julia Street it stands on its own as one of the top 10 galleries in New Orleans. It is rare to find a gallery not on Julia Street or in the Arts District aside from, maybe Windsor Fine Art A Gallery For Fine Photography or Gallery Orange, that shows true quality artists who are career driven. The director of the gallery is committed to showing amazing art by artists that not only matter but are committed to their art. The owner is also individually committed to her artists and for a small business owner goes above and beyond to promote and work with her artists. If you have a chance give her a call and take a look at her program. You wont be disappointed. You will find amazing works, someone also with a hands on approach who truly loves what she does.

I was formerly an artist represented by this gallery and the concerns of other reviews are here true (despite the rave – possibly shill – reviews of other reviewers who curiously have only a single review). I sent a number of pieces to this gallery at great expense and had underwhelming sales over a couple of years despite robust demand for my work elsewhere. When I ended gallery arrangements and asked to have my works shipped back to me, the gallery owner told me she could not afford the costs of return shipping, a commitment she had agreed to at the outset. I was told Id have to trust her to pay me back in her own time. Unsurprisingly, she never paid even after years had elapsed. Eight out of ten pieces that were returned to me were damaged and the gallery owner demonstrated little concern over the damages and her responsibility for the safe care of my artworks. Ive personally spoken to other artists who were represented by this gallery who had similar frustrating experiences with severely damaged artworks. I regret wasting time and money having my work represented by the Guthrie Contemporary gallery. If this is truly a top ten gallery in New Orleans its a sad statement on the quality of the gallery scene in New Orleans. I would caution any artist thinking of having their work represented here.

Very happy with my purchase from this gallery. The owner is lovely and very helpful and accommodating. Beautiful pieces and they even support animal rescue. Win-win. I’m very pleased. Will enjoy my piece for years to come. I hopefully will purchase another piece in the near future. Thank you very much Guthrie Contemporary.

Ive worked with reps from this Gallery and have been very impressed by their knowledge of the market and attention to service. I would highly recommend a visit to other collectors.

This gallery does not honor its contractual obligations to its artists. They are also careless with the storage and handling of work and have damaged artwork by many of the artists represented by this gallery. That is why a number of artists have left the gallery in recent years. If you truly care about supporting artists you not patronize this so-called gallery. if you are a prospective artist considering representation at this place, you might save yourself a great deal of trouble and expense and seek representation elsewhere.
