Its about a half mile walk around the fort. You can walk around the top part too. Theres several areas blocked off where the fort is falling down which is sad. There are signs up saying they are working on it and doing archeological digs. Thats good! We didnt have much time so I didnt get to spend any time reading the signs or looking inside the visitor building. I took pictures of the signs to read later. They also have an electric fence up in one area to keep the sheep in they have on the property.

This park is cool and historic, has really cool views of the city. I really enjoyed coming here. I was pretty disappointed though when we arrived and the park was in some significant disrepair. Some of the decking was in really bad shape, and because of that some of the paths and viewing spots were closed off to visitors. Which could totally defeat the reason for coming to the park in the first place. I hope that can be fixed soon.

This is a fascinating place to visit, however the fort itself is in ruins and what little stonework is visible is walled off with wooden barriers. If youre visiting for the (excellent) view of the Nashville skyline, take the left part of the loop and the trail up to the top of the hill. There are several wooden outlooks built at the top of the fort and with a few shade trees there as well.

I visited the fort on a Sunday, the visitor center was close, but you can still walk around the park and enjoy the vistas and views of the city of Nashville and surroundings. Fort Negley was a fortification built by Union troops after the capture of Nashville, Tennessee during the American Civil War, located approximately 2 miles south of the city center. It was the largest inland fort built in the United States during the war.

I nice place to go for an evening walk. Pretty views of the city and the surrounding country side. The historic aspect is interesting if youre into that kind of thing but its more of a ruin than anything these days. The condition of the fort itself has certainly degraded over the decades but its a nice place to walk.

My personal favorite skyline view only a short walk or bike up super rewarding and peaceful... don’t get lost there at night though because there are big shepherding dogs that will knock a fright into you.. sometimes you can catch the herds of goats that the dogs wrangle maintaining the grounds too . So cool :-)

Hidden gem in the heart of the city.Drove by on a weekday and decided to turn the car around to check out why there was a fortress in the middle of the city. Was incredibly pleased to find out it was a beautiful park with a 360 degree view at the top. Seeing both the hills on the outskirts of town and the skyline while standing in one place is breathtaking.I was able to read some amazing history of the fort’s use in the civil war on the boards placed around the park that truly surprised me. You can enjoy the park in peace because unless you come on Saturday, very few people will be around. The experience is only hurt by the less than spectacular surrounding neighborhood and the small size of the park. Would still highly recommend.-7.6/10

Fort Negley is one of the hidden gems of Nashville. It is a fascinating bit of American Civil War history and it also offers great views of the Nashville skyline. Once you arrive there is ample parking available and getting to the Fort is a short walk up a paved circle. Once in the fort there are signs and displays with the history of the structure and its role in the war. The fort is never really heavily trafficked and is a nice little escape in the city.

I honestly went here to see if I could explore old Greer Stadium. I was excited to find the gates wide open. I dont know if youre really supposed to but we looked around the whole stadium. Its a little eerie in the locker rooms and offices as there are no lights but it was such a cool experience. It is sad to see how quickly the place has been destroyed. I remember going to games there not even 10 years ago.

We took a quick walk around the fort and read the different displays. The visitors center is closed on Mondays, so we werent able to see the videos or glean additional information from the center. As others have noted, the grounds around the fort as well as some of the boardwalks are in varying states of disrepair. The fossil dig site was a big hit with our daughter, however.

Seems like a really nice place to walk and enjoy being outside. It has interesting historical information and fun views of downtown Nashville and the surrounding area. Sheep are being used (responsibly, Im sure) as natural lawn maintenance. I plan to check out the visitors center next time. Only negative is that the remaining stonework isnt from the original fort. Visit and read the signs for more information.

A lot of history here, and slightly strange its application to become a National Military Park was rejected. Staff in the visitor centre were very welcoming when we visited. Theres an interesting film to see in the auditorium and a nice 30-45 minute walk to explore the old fort remains. Allow a minimum of 90 minutes for a trip here.

Really cool and historical civil war era fort. Unlike many other civil war sites in Nashville, this one has its own modern visitors center, complete with a small theater, gift shop, and exhibits. The fort itself has a well maintained trail around and inside of it. There is plenty of historical signage and information along the way. The views of downtown and surrounding Nashville are the best youll find anywhere, especially on the north side of the fort. Such a cool site, and as the largest inland fort built in the civil war I am especially glad it has been preserved and can be visited today. This is a great place to bring kids, or history buffs. Also is a must see on the Battle of Nashville driving tour.

In our opinion, more should be done (presented) to explain the importance of the fort. Many of the placards repeated information and could have done more to contextualize the fort. We felt this was a long walk up and around a hill, where more historical context would have been helpful. They grounds were in great condition and allowed for a smooth, easy walk.

Great program presented by AAHGS of Nashville. Runaways, Coffees and Fancy Girls featuring Bill Gary (book by the same title). Visitors Centering was easy to locate (Near Adventure Science Center). Nice walking trail that leads to historical markings about the park. After walking the trails, I decided to become a friend and hopefully get involved in the restoration project. I encourage others living in Nashville or visitors to the area take some time to drop in. They also have a staff member on the property to answer questions and programs.
