Good hike but its only good for an early mornings. There arent a lot of shades for a late sunny day, it gets really hot there. Starting the hike might feel easy but coming back is the hard part because of the uphill climb.
The biggest problem with it is it’s an awful pain in the butt to get to. The road there is straight up and incredibly windy. I parked next to a fire access road on Tuna Canyon and took that to the trail. There are trails running all over the place and there are absolutely no trail signs anywhere. I had to rely completely on google maps. The views are spectacular and there are very few people on the trail most of the time. It’s dog friendly and I took the pup. There are quite a few significant hills but they aren’t so bad that you can’t handle them. This is one of the SoCal hikes you can go on and actually feel like you’re in nature. There are tons of flies for some reason. They really are all over the place. A lot of lizards and I did see a rabbit. Didn’t see any mosquitoes but I was there during the day.
Nothing like the ocean. Clean, safe. One of the most peaceful places to go for Self Reflection
Love this park for its miles of trails and expansive coastline views at sunset. Bonus labyrinth!
I almost feel bad posting this because I dont want this to get more crowded than it is, so be careful when parking, there isnt a lot of it. This is one of my favorite places to unwind with a majestic view of the city and beaches or the top of a marine layer. Once you move past the fire road, its a bit overgrown during summers and springs but Ive been here regularly for two years and its never been unusable or completely unkempt. Be careful with light mountain biking on the same paths.
Always grateful to enjoy California weather to cool off from the summer heat
Beautiful spot to take a break from your cruise along the coast.
Great views at this park!
Amazing views, especially up by the rock labyrinth if you go up to the top on the left path of the main fork
Small but quiet beach. When you climb down from the road you cannot hear the traffic which is great.
Amazing hikes with well-maintained trails at various difficulty levels. One of my favorites in the LA area. Parking can be tricky, but its worth it. I like that the trails are wide enough that you can go in a group and not wind up single file the whole way. Theres one trash bin near the trail head, and they have a poo bag dispenser for dogs.
As a hiker I don’t say this lightly that the Tuna Canyon Park has the most spectacular and stunning views. TC Park a mountainous park with 1,255-acre in the western Santa Monica Mountains above PCH in Malibu parallels more than two miles of the Pacific Ocean, and provides dramatic, 360-degree views of the San Gabriel mountains to the Santa Monica Bay. Furthermore, it links over 18,000 acres of contiguous protected open space from Topanga State Park west to Las Flores Canyon. We drove up to the trail head from PCH via narrow Tuna Canyon road. There’s only dirt parking near and/or at the trail head. The entrance to the trail is somewhat hidden. The hike is about 2 to 5.1 miles (out and back) with elevation change of 900 to 1,500 ft. The trail head has two main view points: the West vp (Hearst Tank) and the East vp (Big Rock Lateral). Both view points are not interconnected albeit offer a magnificent view of the park. Street parking only. Overall, I highly recommend this hidden gem park.
Real awesome. Worth the hike! Dog friendly too
Stunning view but super hot!
Loving life in MALIBU Ca
Nice trail, easy hike, with spectacular views of the ocean from high up.
What a great place to go hiking. From Tuna Canyon, make a left at Hearst Tank Mtwy, this will lead you to the labyrinth where the hippie vibes are strong as well as some amazing views. There is a fantastic spot there to have a picnic and youll see all the way to downtown on the one side, Malibu on the other. Parking is free and you can only park along the road.Watch out for locals who drive too fast in blind turns on Tuna. Please respect local laws regarding keeping dogs in a leash.
The place that google maps shows is 1.5 mile further than the actual entrance for trail, so don’t follow the map. Google map lead you to the middle of Tuna road that is a one way road and you can not drive back. I tried to edit google but I’m not sure if it is working. I uploaded the photos of place that google map takes you.
One of my memorable hike in Malibu with friends
Beautiful hike trail, a bit tricky to get up, but worth it
Dog friendly. Great views.
Great view of Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice and what follows...
Absolutely beautiful views while hiking. A scenic drive to get there.
Beautiful view, rolling paths
Beautiful spot, with lots of places to explore
Amazing view worth the visit :)
This location is beautiful as you can tell from the photos Ive posted. My only suggestion is that you wear long sleeves and pants. Me and a friend were hiking up the trails when all of a sudden I mention to him lets check ourselves for any ticks. As I was checking to see if any ticks were on him, I happened to notice a baby tick crawling on his leg. And I told him theres a tick on you! So I ended up flicking it off his dark pants. From that point on we decided to leave the area. It seemed like we were checking ourselves out every mile to make sure no other ticks were hitching a ride on us. I was like ugghhh thats all I need is to get bite by a tick and end up in the hospital with lime disease So just be careful everyone.
Great place for an easy hike with great views of the coastline and city.
Beautiful spot. Worth the drive and hike.
Cannot deny the views! Wonderful walking trails and beautiful vistas. Go during the sunset for maximum effect.
Easy to pull over right next to the water and take break. Easy on back on PCH
Incredible Hike with breathtaking ocean views!
Beautiful hike! Drive up there is a bit long and winding but well worth it. It can be a bit confusing because there are so many trails but if you take the left trail from the main entrance it will take you to the stone labyrinth overlooking the ocean.
Beautiful place to hike and watch the sunset. Pretty easy tails.
The love of my life asked me to be his wife at this beautiful location. Absolutely wonderful drive and place to see! Total experience just in the scenery itself! For personal reasons and some not so much this place will forever remain in my memories with the beauty it holds.
Dog friendly, ocean views, and no crowds. Throw in a couple labyrinths and striking shades of purple, green, and yellow vegetation - this is hands down my favorite hike in LA.
Enyoed had fun
Black big cara
Beautiful place
One of the most beautiful places Ive ever been.
I love the windy road up to the park and even more so the way back down because its one-way. It is not very crowded and offers amazing views West into the Pacific and also South along the coast. On a clear day you can see downtown LA and all the way down to Palos Verdes and Catalina Island. Make sure you go on a cool day - there is no shade. Also, its hilly!
Beautiful views, wide trail.
Such a glorious hike
Not crowded at all on weekend morning, with gorgeous view of the ocean and gentle slopes.
I took a drive on a Sunday, it was a beautiful and peaceful afternoon.
Best view Ever!
Great place.
Beautiful as I remembered growing up in so cal.
Beautiful , the view took my breath away . So so very pretty.
Gorgeous Ocean View
Gorgeous. Quintessential California. Where the mountains meet the beach, and you look over cliffs out on the ocean. Its breathtaking. Parking is tough because the trailhead is small and unmarked, but its free. Just wait around and someone will leave. And dogs on leash are welcome. The ONLY NOTE -- its completely in the sun. Almost no shade, so wear a hat and sunscreen.
Favourite hike in Los Angeles
Beautiful Nature Exposure! This is an excellent place for the nature lover and thrill seeker. The trails in the mountains have beautiful views..
Stunning views, the way you expect Malibu to be
Great hidden hike or sorts in Los Angeles. Rarely crowded, lots of open space and a near panoramic view of the whole city. High recommend it. If you see any garbage pick it up!
Amazing views for a hike!
Beautiful hike nice view! Loved it
What a great park I took my dog over there and we had so much fun it’s in the nature feel the nature had to three
Rwally enjoyed it was nice an very easygoing. Only compliant tar spots. Step on one and ended up with a tar stain on both the buttom of my foot hand and blanket. Also alot of seaweed whatever stuff but other then that great view and somewhat friendly people
Good spot to overlook the beach or have a picnic have a great weekend
Great Hiking ! #iloveitontop
If you want to escape the city noise and find your inner self, this is the place to go. The view is absolutely out of this world, Pacific is spread out as far as the eye can see. Love going there often
Gradual slope beach
Beautiful hiking trails with views of the water. Lovely chaparral ecosystem, this spring and summer have been beautiful due to the heavy rains this past winter.
Amazing views of ocean and mountains. And Tuna Canyon road is really fun (or scary, depending on if you like driving on narrow, winding roads at heights)!
Awesome!
This magnificent place gave me a great peace of mind
Beautiful view
Beautiful
Good to work up your conditioning if you like a challenge
Amazing view
Beauitful place to go fishing.
5 star shreds
Fun hike with some established trails. Its is not too hard and not too crowded. A good easy way to get away from the city life. Great views as well.
Just beyond beautiful
Good hiking place for short trip
As always, its a beautiful place to be.
No benches but the views are breathtaking. No well marked signs. Parking can be tough. A great place to walk your pets or do some jogging and photography
The road reads one way until you reach the top, but its drive able. Very nice and clean on top. Would be the best place to ask the question!!!
Great place for a sunset hike.
Dog friendly hiking trail in Malibu.
I spent 48 hours roaming the canyon and hills but didn’t find any tuna . I am severely disappointed. You should have a sign saying the tuna isn’t there come on guys I can’t get my 2 days back now
Zero cell phone coverage, very remote: know what your doing.
Lovely
Incredible hike with the most beautiful views of Malibu and Los Angeles from anywhere. Gorgeous labyrinth at the end. Great for dogs and children.
Nice views
My favorite hike
Well Im afraid of snakes and Im new to hiking, so hearing the rattle of rattle snakes all around the area was pretty scary. I met another fellow hiker there and she said in the summer thats when they like to come out so if you see them in the trail just go around them. Decent views of the ocean and Malibu. To get to the trail you have to go up a few 1000 feet in elevation. The entrance is kind of hidden. If you drive into the one way street youve gone past it but its near there. Parking available on the dirt road across the entrance.
Great place too visit
Great place to get away and enjoy the outdoors
It has my favorite driving roads
Mostly a fire road but a nice place to go on a hike with dogs.
Very small trails, three total, if you keep right you will encounter the smaller hikes, trek to the left for the more lengthy trails!
A day for fishing
