Beautiful sunrise from here, we star our hike at 7:30 am the parking spot is very small only for four cars, but also you can park on the side of the road without problem . The hike to the Rosas Overlook is two miles out and back dogs and kids friendly. Don’t forget keep clean this place . Thanks to this men who is giving water and ice to people.
This hike is one of my favorites. If you are looking for a fairly easy hike with a great view this should be your pick right here. Ive been here several times and each time is as awesome as I remember it. Parking is very very limited its a single strip that might fit max 3 cars so make sure you come either sunrise early or just on a weekday when its not expected to be crowded. There is a trail before the lookout point named fossil trail that is pretty cool. A few minutes into the trail youll come across some cool rocks with seashell fossil imprints hence the name fossil trail. Ive taken that trail just not all the way so I dont know where it might end. If youre more interested in the view just disregard the fossil trail and keep going down the dirt path. you are going to come across a two way point, keep going left through the dirt trail and all the way until the end you will slightly climb atop to get to the graffiti lookout. Take your time, inhale fresh air, enjoy the view, take great pictures and make good memories.
Amazing place just to visit and relax and walk distance too many rocks on the beach! Love it
This trailhead is for the Backbone Trail, there are only a few parking places at the lookout but many more along the road. No overnight parking allowed right here but you can a little ways away in both directions. The Backbone Trail is 67 miles long and runs from Will Rogers State Historical Park to the Ray MIller trail head in Point Magu State Park. The trail is actually a connection of many shorter trails that previously existed so often you will see a different name on the signs. In someplaces it is also clearly marked as the Backbone Trail but in other places there are no Backbone signs at all so it is helpful to have an online map to show which way the trail goes. Especially in those places where there are many other trails interscecting it. My favorite is the Cal Topo Map app.
The most scenic place in Southern California that I have been to thus far. Being able to see the ocean as well as far inland at the same time without having to hike by foot is awesome. The drive is half the fun too.
This is a stunningly beautiful area with views of the mountain ridges and ocean. Lots of native buckwheats and manzanita growing all around, and an appearance by a covey of 30 California quail made me happy.
Beautiful views from both sides! Tight parking though.
Being a local, I am always partial to this spot. Too many people come here now... there’s limited parking and the end often has people there, but it’s one of my favorite spots!
One of the most amazingly surprising beautiful views in the Malibu/Topanga area, several ridges of mountains can be seen for miles and miles up to Calabasas as well as the ocean right across the road. You can see and get to the Backbone Trail winding along the spine of the mountains for many miles, all this less than an hour away from downtown LA.
This is a fun and fairly easy in and out hike with grand vistas in every direction. There are some ridges to explore next to the trail but the ground is not always stable so its best to stick to the trail on the way to the elevated platform at the end. Exploring the radio tower area is considered trespassing so do at your own risk if thats your thing. You can easily access the Fossil Ridge trail close to Stunt road and that is very interesting. You probably wont get a cardio workout from this hike but with the views, you probably wont care.
Easy to park and walk. Great views.

The view is breathtaking. We have been there at sunset on our way back from Malibu to LA. Feels like in heaven. It was right at the new moon so perfect time for me!
Great dog friendly, hour-long, out and back hike with gorgeous mountain and ocean scenery, little traffic, and free parking. A favorite.
Such cool hiking trails and great views. Dangerous now since so many shootings and missing people. People are being dumped there and killed. Be careful.
