This was my first visit to the campsite and I had a great time! I had a lovely secluded spot and plenty of shade from the abundant trees. Lots of birds and squirrels to see. I would definitely go back for another trip. Also appreciated that dogs are allowed. My little dog had a great time sniffing and smelling everything in sight.

Super fun place. Cliffs are along the beach and coast. Which means you can have lots of climbing adventure to look for the sea caves. Eventually you will find a super big one. Two sea caves connected by a sea tunnel. You can also see a ring of rock. So amazing.

One of our most favorite campgrounds! We love how much space between each campsite and the close proximity to the beach. Between hiking the hills around the campgrounds, the tide pools and swimming beach across the street and the camp store for an afternoon ice cream treat this place is also a favorite of our kids! We look forward to coming back each year.

I came here as a child for field trips and returned decades later. Beautiful. Great place to see sea animals but check for best day and time based on tide.

Very close to the beach, you can sleep to the sound of waves crashing. The night sky was filled with stars. The beach store is over priced, but it is convenient. We walked up and got a reservation. The bathrooms were functional. We watched some ocean life swimming in the distance. My only problem was I kept getting oil splats on the bottom of my feet when went to north beach. So bring a bottle of dawn to be prepared because it is so hard to get off.

Location is great. Various beaches walking distance from the camp. Awesome tide pool. There is a walking beach access and the roads are paved which is great for kids riding their bikes, scooters, etc. There is also a small store that has all essentials one may need if they forgot to bring. However, most of the camp sites are very close together. camp roads are very narrow when cars are present. I would highly recommend bringing a kids playing sign to keep kids safe from drivers. Camping can be a bit busy and noisy. If you want social distanced camping during this Covid time, better look elsewhere or attempt to get a site near the back such as those of sites #high 40s or low 50s. Not sure if this site has a limit is on number of campers per site since we saw many sites with over 10+ people. Park rangers frequently drive. Mask are required per sign at entrance but not enforced. We noticed restrooms were cleaned in the morning. Multiple restroom facilities available.

Leo carillo is just a magical place. You can hear the waves crashing at night from your tent. The stars are so beautiful because there is no light pollution. Lots of natures smaller friends squirrels, rabbits, birds, coyotes. I have also had a deer once wander through camp. Over the years I have also seen otters, dolphins, seals, and a whale once! Been blessed to have been camping her for 30 plus years. Its a beautiful beach and not over crowded if you are just day tripping.

Great beach for a change of pace from your normal sand and wave break. This place is filled with tide pools and giant rocks for climbing. Water shoes might be helpful at this one, as the waters edge is more rocky than sandy. But theres plenty of soft sand on the beach and lots to explore. We absolutely loved it.

We camped here at the campgrounds that are super close to the beach. We could hear the sound of the waves as we fell asleep. Camp sites are nice with a picnic table, fire pit and a little chain to hook your dogs leash to. Very dog friendly. Weather wasnt great but it happens. It was very crowded but thats California for you. The camp sites are spaced apart and nice and clean. Real bathrooms too not just porta-pottys. If you have a huge RV the spaces are a bit small but we tent camped so it was fine for us. Overall Id recommend.

This is one of my favorite beaches in LA county! There are a bunch of rocks to climb on, not so crowded beach spaces, a cave and other picturesque areas, and seems to be a good surfing spot cause I always see surfers of all ages out there. This is also the only tidal pool spot Ive seen an octopus, (although that may depend on the time of year). All that to say, Leo Carillo great place for the family or to get away on ones own. Free street parking and stairs to the beach on the northern side.

My overall FAVORITE beach in California!!! The Doggie Beach area is visited by responsible pet owners who clean up after their dogs and keep their pets on leashes. The entire area features dramatic sea wall structures and scenic views in every direction. I am a little confused as to why the lobster fishing boat called Critters is allowed to drop lobster catching cages so close to shore. Very dangerous for swimmers and scuba divers who frequent the area.

The views here are amazing! You can find shells which is always a blast, especially when the tide is low because you get to see all of the crabs, snails and tadpoles too. The tide pools are the best spots with tons of waves and beautiful scenery. Its never too crowded when I go. There are either pelicans or sea lions chillin on the huge rocks. ️

My favorite and only beach I truly love in Southern California.I have been going to Leo Carrillo for many years. I dont usually visit in the summer. The fall or after a good rain is my time. I love to walk the beach, its so beautiful. If you are lucky you might see a dolphin or a seal. Low tide is the best time to visit. All the rocks and sea life a true gem.

We had a nice couple days at Leo Carrillo campground. We stayed in spot 82. If youre into people watching and being close to the store, this is the perfect spot. It was a nice shady spot with plenty of space. Our only issue was we werent aware that there wasnt any wifi service. We did find that walking to spot 99 did give us signal for At&t. Also, if you plan on going to the dog beach its about a mile north walk and uphill in some spots.. We luckily brought our Mac Wagon for our elderly big dog and worked great but plan on that if you have dogs.

Absolutely gorgeous gorgeous campground! We were there for the weekend celebrating my brothers birthday. It was awesome getting to spend time with family and being forced to unplug while at the campsite. Dont worry, you get reception if you walk to the store/front of the campground and while youre at the beach ;). Speaking of! The walk along the cliffs is beautiful! There are areas that lead down to little coves you can spend time at. We had to head to dog friendly beach areas though because we did have our pup, but the beach where the dogs can be is the least rocky and still a lot of fun! We also did a hike while we were there. It was a great way to start our morning. I highly recommend staying here! Theres lots to do!

The beach itself is nice. It is difficult to walk down to the sand because there is not a real entrance, but some rocks you have to climb down and up to get in or back out. Some people had their dogs off leash. Another person kept walking their dog near us even though each time our dogs went nuts because it was a much larger dog. But people can be inconsiderate anywhere. Parking is $3/hour and you pay at a station and keep your recipt on your dash of your car. Overall it was a fun time at the beach!

My family has been camping here for over a decade. While the location is great, apparently they have a horrible ant infestation- but even worse was the amount of Comet poured all over the campsites and the parking spots. Why is it okay to pour toxic chemicals all over the land where my toddler likes to play? I saw campsite with spray bottles of Round Up! People using the restroom to brew their coffee with the electrical outlets while there’s a line of people waiting. Campers allowing their children to play and yell well after 11pm. One group decided to have a karaoke party the first night - musical instruments and all. Might have to find another beach spot for camping. Which is sad because this has been a long tradition for my family.

First, they reopened after the fires. We stayed for July 4th and loved it. Everything is up and running, the camp shop, all the showers, access to the beach. This is very dog friendly. Like tons of dogs (unleash of course). A large section of the beach is also dog friendly too (with a leash). We used a long lead around our camp tree. Kept our dog in check if we had to cook or build a fire. This location is about 20 minutes drive to any type of grocery store, so bring what you need. The camp shop has snacks, beer, coffee, ice cream and some minor camping essentials. The squirrel are nuts here. They will attack any unsecured food. Do not keep food in your tent, Id fear they would chew through the tent. We kept our food in a cooler or a big plastic storage box.

I love that there is a lot of open beach as well as the cliffs and rocks so you have a variety of backdrops for photos. This place is kind of like a good medium between Point Dume and El Matador. We booked this place and actually got a spot for memorial day weekend and It was awesome. We saw a bit of a shower but no big deal. Me and the wife enjoyed our stay. if you stay in spot 81 you will have the small store right next to you and the bathrooms are on the other side of the store along with the showers. At this time of our stay the showers did not work. Bathrooms always clean. If you need to go to the restroom at night make shure you have a flashlight with a rope or a yarn on the end of it to hang on the door so you can see. Also on spot 81 they do have a small area that has water located close to the road. This place is awesome and the people at the store are super chill. Leo Carrillo for me 5 out of 5 if you forget anything the store will have it. List of stuff we forgot. Soap for dishes, smores, chips, tapatio, eggs, tortillas. When you look at the prices make shure you stop and think, you are paying because you forgot and you are paying a convenience fee they also have beer.....
