My first time hiking Escondido Falls. This hike was fun and I felt adventurous. Getting to the first waterfall was really pretty, I just wished there was more water. Hiking to the second waterfall was tough. You had to be very careful with slipping and sliding, going up and back down. Theres actually a rope for you to go up just to start, and after that youre putting your rock climbing mode to help you along the way to get to the second waterfall. It was scary for me, just take your time. Also, be aware of people coming down and going up since the small isnt that wide, but just enough. Oh the things we do to see waterfalls. It was worth it, just wished there was more water.

Love waterfall so cant say anything bad about this fall. Hike to the first fall is easy n kids and dog friendly. But to get to the second fall, you have to climb and use rope that people tide to tree to get to it. It very step going up and the soil is very loose so you have to be very careful going up. Waterfall is kinda small right now because it summer but Im assume in March to May it should be in full force.

Kinda place you go once to check it off your bucket list and never come back. It was decent, nice ride there since you go on pch. The hike was super short like I was kind of surprised how short it was, definitely easy level. First waterfall was pretty, we are in a drought though so very thin water. Didnt try out the climb for the second water fall as you can easily bust your butt climbing up (no flat land to walk up, incline, loose rocks/dirt, rope to climb up). Entire hike (including walking from parking to the trail) was probably an hour there and an hour back. Parking was pretty bad, if you park on pch PARK BETWEEN THE SIGNS!! Saw some cars with tickets issued. Overall, wouldnt come back but it was nice to see once!

I went during July the falls were pretty much all dried up. The trail was awesome though...finding the 2nd waterfall was a bit difficult for us...we decided to go straight up the hill and theres lots of gravel and rock and super hot..its slippery..becareful. Once we did get to the 2nd fall, you can feel the cool air..dont forget your water.

Came here earlier today, the hike itself was nice but people were passing right by you going the opposite direction with no masks on.To those that have visited this trail may know that the paths are quite narrow and you are obliged to be almost shoulder to shoulder to people occasionally. This made my family and I so uncomfortable. There are signs everywhere that state no mask no hike, but apparently so these people can’t read. Please be respectful to others and follow the guidelines. Otherwise, these trails will have to close once again due to people failing to abide by the rules.

Its a great short little hike to the lower falls! Feels like youre somewhere much further from civilization, and its a beautiful trail. The hike to the upper falls was too difficult for my girlfriend and I, but the lower falls hike was so nice and relaxing! Be sure to get there early for parking and so that you can head out before other people go, because its a popular little hike

Beautiful walk through Malibu Canyons and a little bit of river crossing to add to the touch!! :) the waters flow beautifully during the rainy season! Getting to the falls itself is abit of a steep climb through rocks and dirt so prepare yourself to get dirty and PLEASE do wear hiking boots with plenty of grip and any adequate hiking gear is highly recommended as a fall here can mean serious injury or death not trying to scare anyone but the climb is definitely worth it just please be careful careful careful!!

Phenomenal hike. Just going to the base of the falls is great and easy. If you are a bit more fit than most people and would like a challenge I absolutely recommend climbing to the height of the falls. Its amazing. The loose gravel makes for a challenge going up and down but for the fit and ready people its a piece of cake. Take lots of pictures.

Really nice hike. Ez hIke, with a lot people. It’s a little bit over 3 miles out and back trail. The parking is very small, and then you walk through a residential neighborhood with beautiful big mansions. Then you hit the Canyon Trail and you forget you’re in Malibu. Beautiful waterfall even with the fires and burnouts still nice and green with all the rain we’ve had.

Not much parking so you have to get there early or youll have to park on the street. Becareful not to park in unmarked no parking places. They do check frequently. Upon arriving , we seen someone w a ticket & when leaving , the sheriff came through again and gave two more people tickets jus in the parking lot. Saw her going through the streets giving more tickets. Dont be that guy!! Hike is easy , but at the end you run into many people. the waterfall is slightly dried up as of aug 18, 2020. Didnt climb to the second waterfall but i can tell who did because they were all dirty and dusty from the loose dirt. You be the judge whether its worth it or not :}

A little crowded but overall an accessible hike. We saw a bunch of strollers and dogs on leash. I think they must be on a leash but some dogs were roaming free. The falls are in three tiers, the second tier requires a bit of a climb, which tuckered me out. The falls up top were well worth it. Parking can be tricky though, not many spaces. Come early!

Trail is pretty nice! Around 2 mi to get to the first waterfall. Don’t expect a lot of water during the summer, but the view is still great. It can get pretty hot so make sure to take that into consideration. The only thing not so great about it is there’s only a small parking lot which charges 8 bucks per day and after that they walk is at least half mile to get to the trail.

During the rainy season like right now its amazing! You will have to jump over a few streams before getting to the falls so be prepared to get your shoes wet.Come early and park on the side of the street, parking is $8 now and it fills up quick. Its a short walk up the street to the trail head. Just follow the signs and youll be ok.

This is an O.K. waterfall and trail. Once inside the nature park it is quite nice, albeit dusty. The walk to the trailhead through a wealthy neighborhood is unpleasant, it has a generally unwelcome feeling and the aspect that parking for the trail is so far away feels dismissive to the public. I also do not recommend the parking, as some street parking is nearby for free, and the fee for parking is 12 dollars. I am not sure where the money for parking goes, but it did not seem like it was going towards maintaining the park. The trail had some garbage on it and the later section that requires climbing with ropes was in disrepair and improperly signed for directions. I went to this trail on a Tuesday and I would say it was the maximum amount of crowding I am comfortable with while on a hike, with groups passing me about every 5 minutes. Almost certainly on a weekend this place will be too crowded.

Easy hike, including from parking (I saved myself the $8 parking in the small lot and parked on the street; I arrived around 715a and when I got back to my car around 930a, parking was pretty crowded) up to the actual trail—get to see a lot of gorgeously-expensive houses. The trail itself is a bit confusing at first bc it is unmarked and there is a lot of overgrown foliage—I wound up taking a wrong turn and arrived at a ‘no trespassing’ sign at first. You can climb up to a second waterfall as well, but I did not do that as I was solo hiking.

So there is a lower waterfall that is easy to get to, but if you want to get to the other one - it is directly above it. You will need to be a decent climber and get on all fours to reach it - the easiest path to the top is located on the right side (if you’re facing the first falls). Be careful as not all rocks are stable and will crumble if gripped/stepped on too hard.

Get to the first fall at 09:30. After having a breakfast at the first fall, climbing up to the 2nd fall. due to the rain, there was no trail and it was slippery all the way to the top. also so many rock falling from the top. took another 20 minutes to the top and 2nd fall was amazing since we had so much rain on March. started go back parking at 10:30 and areived at the lot at 11:30AM. Escondido Falls is a great, relatively easy hike in Malibu, CA! There are a few hills to cross over to get down into the canyon where the waterfall is. Theres a little parking lot at 101 and Winding Way. (we parked on the 101 just before winding way.) You walk a little less than a mile through some nice neighborhoods on the way to the trailhead, passing some snazzy mansions. Once you get through the neighborhood, you drop down into the canyon, (thankfully, most of the rest of the trail is under trees!) Its about another mile or so and you get to the falls. Depending on the time of year and rain conditions, it could be an actual waterfall, or it could be a trickle. Either way, its a nice mild hike, on the coast between LA and Ventura...PLUS if you keep em on the leash, you can bring the doggos!!

We really enjoyed our home there. The waterfall is not huge so don’t get too excited about that. The safest thing is that so many of the trees are burnt from the wildfires. You can still smell the charred wood. It reminds you how fragile this ecosystem is and how careful we must be so that this doesn’t happen again. The trails were crowded but the people werePolite to those of us that were a little slow . Be aware that it is slippery when you get to the waterfall. Lots of people slipped and fell in the mud. It’s always fun to hike so go enjoy the great outdoors!
