South Valley Park is a great place for recreating in the Ken Caryl area. The park is well maintained and provides restrooms and picnic shelters/tables. The trails provide a variety of technical levels for mountain biking, as well as hiking.I would recommend coming on a weekday, as the weekends tend to be extremely busy. Overall, very good!

A great hike for beginners, the views are beautiful! Please watch out for rattlesnakes, as they show up in the summer. It’s also super close to a Lockheed Martin facility. I think it adds to the scenery in a positive way.

A little like hiking on the moon, but with more oxygen. Great rock formations, good trails, some winding single track, some rock steps, some open meadows. A deer hanging in the bushes doing deer things. Not crowded, plenty of parking, clean bathroom. Short trip from the big cow town.

I love this place because when I was homeschooled back in 1st and 2nd grade by my grandmother, her + my dad + myself, would come up here to do my school work, followed by a picnic and a hike before going back home....turning it into all 3 of ours favorite hiking spot...years later ~> when my father passed from suicide

A great place to take a casual stroll through red rocks in a breathtaking little valley. Have been there many times. Although keep the fire status in mind - last time we went there was enough smoke in the air to taste, and discourage anything like real exercise.

Beautiful park! Nestled against the foothills just outside of Denver. Great for family time, we took our girls and dog they loved it. Very family friendly. The trails are easy and the red rocks are stunning. They do have a handful of picnic tables so we were able to enjoy lunch there too. Definitely going back soon!

Absolutely loved this trail! Took our kiddos and went a couple miles in. Saw a huge snake and decided to turn around. Not sure if it was a rattle snake or a bull but it creeped the kids out. We made it to the Columbine trail and thats where the path narrows quite a bit. Watch out for those snakes. Beautiful scenery though!

Great views, great location. This park is close in but fairly well hidden. The north trailhead has a gravel parking lot, restrooms and picnic tables. The trails are moderate as there are many slopes and tricky areas. We has to use ice crampons to get through the multiple icy areas but it is winter and the trails were mostly snow packed. The trails are much more navigable in the summer months. There are several interesting rock formations in the park boundaries.

Busy and tight parking but a really nice hiking trail. There is an incline and expect to ascend several hundred feet overall but this is a gradual, not technical climb. The scenery is classic CO.

What a great place to go! It’s was a nice 35-40 minute drive from our house, and we’ll worth it! We took the dog with us and he loved it too. Took a lunch with us there’s a few pavilions with picnic tables and great views we ate at. Walked through a couple trails it’s really a beautiful place. Lots of red rocks, right on the foothills, we really enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

Pretty park with well maintained trails and lots. Also see a lot of interesting rock formations. Even with a lot of other folks out on the trail, still felt very spacious and uncrowded. Lots of folks out there with kids and dogs over the weekend, and NOT all the trails are marked as bike friendly, so be sure to plan your route ahead of time if youre going on wheels instead of on foot! There are some good bike trails if you go east and up the hill on the trails via the Lyons trail!

South Valley Park is one of my favorite places to hike and bike because of its location, beauty and the variety of terrain varying from very flat and wide (Coyote Song) to steep, single track (Lyons Back). It is one of the best areas to feel like you are out of the city while you are just a 5 minute drive off of C470. I had to deduct 1 star because of all the new fencing that began appearing last year (see pics). Im guessing they were having issues with people going off trail so now it looks like is one of the prettiest medium security trails around.

Ti

We arrived at dusk but wanted to get a mile or two hike in. The Coyote Song trail was moderately easy but a nice hike. We started up Lyons Back Trail and got up to where we could see over the valley a little better, but had to turn back due to lack of light. The moonlight was perfect for hiking back down Coyote Song. Full moon would have been better. If you want to take a moonlit hike, Coyote Song is a good one.

Ro
Review №37

This is a great spot for hikers of all levels! The trails are relatively flat, but there are some uphill portions and also steep spots like the Lions Back trail. Most trails are red sand/dirt or fine gravel. Multiple lookout points and places to stop, but not a lot of benches if thats a concern. There are giant rocks to sit on instead. Theres not a lot of shade, but it was a great hike for a 70 degree day. Multiple spots to park and access the trails as well. If you have a dog, its a great hike for them, but the only trash can we found was by the picnic area near the primary trailhead, so make sure your pup does their business beforehand.

I just got home half an hour ago from an amazing 2.5 hour hike around the north side of South Valley Park. Swallow Trail to Canyon Song to Lyons Back to Columbine to Cathy Johnson, then back along the road to the car. I believe the Pass leads into the Open Air region north of this park. This sunset hike was breathtaking. Everything so silent and still. There were not many folks out. At 30 minutes from Denver, I recommend this park to anyone looking for an easy to moderate hike (or bike).

Needed to take a hike, hitch-hiked until nature was in my sights. Vehicle broke down and told me to go take a hike.Ideal place to hike just dont bring a skirt, theres so much dirt, no one likes dirty underwear, and thats what would happen if you hiked up your skirt.Beautiful place with rock forms, beautiful and serene, cozy sediment gathering - rock dorm. Rock and roll, if nature has a god, I bet this is where he bowls...
