Classic, unglaciated Ohio with old growth forest. This tract contains my favorite Tulip Poplar trees in the state. Well marked trails with gradual elevation changes make this a good trail for families. For a challenge take the short trail up to the knob. Looking forward to returning when the Autumn leaves change color.
Short hikes and beautiful mature trees. Not crowded. Nice little park.
I like getting a good workout at this place I do 2 or 3 laps since its not that big. Its Beautiful. Last time I was there I spotted a big black feline out on the trail. It was sitting and its height was at my hip. Scared me but it didnt come towards me just watched me. I called the State Natural preserves and they said they would check it out. Has anyone else seen it?
A wonderful and peaceful area for a shorter day hike. The trail splits and lead either up onto a big rock outcropping (Becks Knob) on the left or a long loop called the honeysuckle trail if you keep right. Absolutely beautiful and safe with good reception.
Nice little 1.5 mileish loop with decent elevation & large rock formations.
There was only 1 person running the show. Was told everyone else was sick, but couldnt confirm or deny it was Covid.
Have stopped here a few times, the area is well kept and the parking area is quite large. Ive seen some new to me birds here when I have had the time to stop.
Nice little path hidden in a neighborhood. No overlook at top of the hike though
I love this place but shhhhhh. Dont tell anyone.
Real high elevation kind of spot which is my favorite. The view would be best in the winter on a snow covered day!
Especially great for spring wildflowers, but nice, quiet place to walk any time of year.
Nice place with some hills.
Nice. Secluded. Pretty, but not very big.
The trails are amazing theyre marked with easeand everything looks back around to the parking lot during the fall time it is absolutely beautiful to walk Park is also animalfriendly in one of my must go tos right when the snow first starts to fall!
Lesiure ~2mi wooded hike with a short climb to a bluff overlook. Trails are well marked.
Really secluded from everything! NO BATHROOMS ...Your surrounded by Nature and its Very quiet. Not A major hiking area So if you want to be alone this is probably the place!
Beautiful place will definitely go back
Beautiful place with interesting things to see
Nice trails
Great for a quick hike. Not too difficult to climb.
SIMPLY a moment!!!
Scenic trails that are about a mile long. They are moderately easy for us. Were in our late 60s.
A nice afternoon walk thru the wooda
Very beautiful
I only wish we could preserve more nature
Photographers P.O.V. If your looking for a sunrise or sunset vista close to your home, this may not be the best. Still a beautiful vista and with the right conditions, you just might get the shot youre looking for. I am looking forward to a autumn scene. Im sure with the view and colors, a beautiful shot will be easy. I plan on returning for sure. FYI, a lot of cats and raccoons (at least at 4:30am) starring back at you. Those glowing eyes........
Hiking trails.
Cool and quiet right off RT 33
Its not very far to walk, just those two knobs - my guess would be about 2 miles in total. We still managed to get lost and thought were on top of one knob when it was the other. Its a very nice forest trail for sure.
Why no dogs ?!?):
This is a relatively small nature preserve but be SURE you get a pamphlet at the entrance if you arent familiar with the layout of the trails. Think of the rims of two eyeglass lenses attached by the connection across your nose. By the connection is another trail with lots of wooden steps to the top of the only knob open to the public. The view up there is amazing but I would suggest caution if you bring young children as it could be dangerous at the top. Dogs are not permitted. There are no restroom facilities, no trash containers. Lots of deer, squirrels and hundreds of birds make their home here. Trails can get very slippery when wet. Nice metal mesh has been nailed to footbridges. This site is one of the first places glaciers started falling apart leaving sizeable deposits...thus the knobs. If you are lucky, you may see buzzards playing in the updrafts at eye level when at the top of the knob. Again, please keep track of where you are on the trail. I have helped many casual hikers figure out how to get back to their car. There is no ranger station but they do a super job keeping this preserve clean and trails clear. Last comment, the big indentation in the middle of the top of the knob was caused by headstones being cut out of the rock and taken to the octagon shaped famous cemetery on Crumley Road.
Unspoiled beautiful woods and trail
Stopped on our way back from Myrtle Beach. Well taken care of trails and was a great place to stretch our legs!
We visited Shallenberger in winter when the leaves didnt block the view. We had passed it many times on the way to the Hocking Hills, but spotted it on a map and decided to visit one day. Very nice little preserve, short and scenic but steep hike to the top of a hill that overlooks the surrounding country in all directions, although leaves might get away in the summer.
Nice quiet place. Some elevation on some of the paths.
Great place to just get out and walk! Went here with my sons cub scout pack!
Great 1.6 mile hike. A few large rock plateaus to hike up.
Although very small this is one of my favorite places
Its a in a little bit of a strange location to get too, and had a lot of litter in some places. The bathrooms were distugsting as expected, but it had a nice park and play section for the kids.
Nice quiet Park my girl and I go and we walk her dogs
So beautiful!!! The most beautiful valleys I have ever explored!!
Its out of the way and not too many people go there
Found this on the map while looking for named hills in the area. Fun hiking and great views when I fear visited in the winter a few years ago b
Beautiful park but wish they allowed dogs
