A place for a pleasant walk. Can be crowded on first loop of trail but if you take largest loop there are about three miles where usually only see one or two people. Very little wildlife but there are some birds and the occasional squirrel on the trail during the day. If hiking in evening there are some deer wandering through.

A secluded nature preserve well maintained amidst urban developed surroundings.Theres three trail loops of choice 2 miles, 3.9 miles and 6.1 miles each. The paths(not paved, but fair enough) are well maintained and suitable for biking, jogging/running/walking w/pets on leashes.Theres occasional sightings of turtles/tortoises near the creek, birds, lots of well bulked crickets lying around on paths, but no Snakes!! (Which made me most comfortable).

In the fall and winter times, when its getting nice and cool, this spot is great! Sometimes in the summer it can get pretty hot, but usually this place is absolutely beautiful. I often go with my girlfriend to take long walks down the trail and spend time with each other. Its never very crowded at all, and its a very pretty little tucked away location I think anyone could enjoy.

Nice wide, flat trails for an easy bike ride. Got there at 530pm on a Saturday in May and it wasnt crowded at all. Biked the 7mi loop. Saw deer and wild turkeys on the trail. Miles 4-5 had a lot of puddles after a couple days of light rain. Might become impassable after significant weather. The deer flies are vicious and able to bite through light clothing. Bring a hat. Not sure if bug spray works on them. There were dozens of them attacking me on the walk to the creek. Not pleasant at all.The midpoint of the loop isnt well marked where the trail splits. I didnt make the turn and was eventually confronted by a fallen tree. I turned around safely and made it back to the main trail without difficulty, but Im not sure why the unmarked trail spur is there.

Kayak “launch” area is very primitive and is a mile away from the parking lot, which isn’t very convenient depending on how heavy your kayak is. (The building and dock across the creek belong to the neighborhood of Celestina.) However, it’s a beautiful walk down to the creek and there is a sturdy wooden bench to sit on while enjoying the view.

Amazing sense of being totally removed from the city! Lots of wildlife; deer, fox squirrels, birds, owls, native plants, beautiful trees and fresh air. The area is also home to some very rare old growth cypress trees making it even more vital for preservation! Sadly, from about June to September yellow flies, mosquitoes and ticks can be an issue especially in the furthest reaches of the peninsula itself or just off the trail. Wear bug spray and walk or bicycle ride fast and it can be tolerable.

This is one of my favorite trails to run and to bring my dog. I get here pretty early and there’s usually only bicyclers. There’s always parking, the trails are wide and never not maintained. Whether you’re exploring, walking, running or bicycling the trails are accessible and easy to navigate.

The only BIG PROBLEM, I want all pet owners to be AWARE of is TICKS!!!!! My dogs have medication they take but the trails are so infested!!!Please be careful and check your animals thoroughly after coming here!

Pretty place, but the burrs were terrible. Had to stop every 6 feet to remove them from the dogs feet. So, I can only give it 3 stars. The trail is easy and very well marked, just littered with invisible burrs. Little ones. They hurt to pull out. A plus were the free maps at the start and perhaps Ill return by myself or with the Mrs, but probably not the dog. Too bad. He loves to sniff stuff.

This is a nice place to walk dogs. Lots of runners pass by. Some people on horseback. My only complaint are the people not following the rules who dont have their dogs on a leash. Three huge dogs came barreling towards the puppy I was walking. Not all dogs (or people for that matter) like other dogs running up to them.

I thought it was great. I did spray myself good with repellant but I was grateful to find that the trails had been recently mowed. Nice little afternoon workout on the bike. Changed in the bathroom and cleaned up a little afterward. Watch out for the high school students on the way in. I almost hit one who was driving distracted. Trails were really fun, fast with some natural and man made challenges. I will go again soon.

Nice area for walking, biking, jogging. It is a serenade of nature and an escape from the concrete all around the area. It is like the last refuge for nature goers in this ever developing area! Conveniently located fairly close to a freeway exit and some good grub, so you can work up an appetite then shove your face with some food to compensate for the lost body mass. Enjoy :)

I guess Im going to be the voice of dissent among these reviews.Pros: beautiful!! So much green, and trees and nature. It really is a nice place to hike. Bring bug spray. Plenty of space for a long walk.Cons:-driving into park, there are so many huge pot holes. It needs to be filled in or fixed.-trails are not very clearly marked. Every now and then youll note a tree with either a blue or white splotchy spray painted on it.-I dont think Id recommend this for novice hikers or to bring kids. It is too easy to get turned around. Lots of forks and bends. All the trails look the same, too-super buggy. I know its florida but there were bugs biting me I didnt even recognize.-the trails themselves are mostly covered in grass. Would be nicer if they were more defined.Like i said, it is beautiful but certainly not an easy to navigate trail. More trail markers and maps would make it much nicer.

Nice walking trails and a great place to walk the dog. You can make it into a short or long hike. Parking lot isnt paced and there are lots of dips in the drive so be careful. There is one port-o-potty available. There are also benches periodically throughout the hike if you need a place to rest and a couple of picnic tables at the start. Contrary to what you may have heard from former (former) mayor, Delaney the paths are really well maintained and easy to traverse. I managed to walk 2 miles of the trail on my crutches. Its really neat because going from the parking area to the trail spur leading to Durbin creek you walk through three interconnected ecosystems in about 1 mile. This is truly a hidden gem tucked away in one of the fastest growing areas of the U.S.

First run there, me being naturally weary of trail running was a little nervous about tackling this trail. I came out a little early so there werent many runners of the trail, during my run I only came across two. Wildlife, saw some deer tracks thats about it, but the website states that there are bobcats around there, which was why I was freaking out, but I didnt come across any this time. Trails are well maintained and clearly marked, we definitely hit this one again.

Julington&Durbin Creeks join before flowing into the St Johns River. Both are flatwater creeks that can be paddled for several miles. Power Boats also Navigate the last few miles before they join. The preserve has about an 8 mile multi use trail system good for hiking or horses. The area is swampy, so it can get muddy.
