You should visit.SAVE HOFMANN FOREST
[Hofmann Forest is not to be confused with Deppe Park, which is a public park located on Hwy 17 in an area called Deppe, between Piney Green and Maysville.]Hofmann Forest is NOT a State Forest, nor is it public property. It is private property and the roads are closed to the public. If your GPS routes you through the Hofmann Forest, it is wrong. All the roads through the Hofmann Forest are private, unimproved, woods roads. Entry into the Hofmann Forest without a certified permit is trespassing. The property is owned by the NCSU Natural Resources Foundation. The majority of the property is managed by a Timberland Investment Management Organization (TIMO) for timber production. All recreational rights are leased to multiple private clubs. If you’re looking for free, open public access to nature, dirt roads, and plenty of trees, check out the nearby Croatan National Forest, offering camping, hiking trails, picnic spots, off-road trails, canoe launches, and plenty of bird watching and dog walking options.
Best place ever
Save Hodmann forest. Probably too late.
They are cutting down all the trees
Pretty cool riding through the forest. Crazy ways the GPS will take you
Private no riding
Great place to haul wood from plenty of deer hunting.
Use to be nice for a Sunday ride with kids, then this mob took it over and locked it down for this hunting club.
Great place to brings kids. Also has a nice trail
Well kept hiking trail, dog friendly when on lease.
Upkeep of the facility could be improved. Needs maintenance work
Gloriously desolate.
Awesome playground and hiking available.
I live here lol in de forest!
Huge tract of land, 79,000 acres. Established in 1934. Many acres of loblolly pine plantations, also some natural pocosin. Not often open to the public, though. Would be better if the Natural Resources Foundation no longer managed it, but still, this wonderful property needs to stay in public/NCSU hands if at all possible.Could be restored to a wildlife paradise, and even in its current condition is essential for connecting Croatan National Forest to other core blocks of coastal plain forest to the north and south.
