A nice little urban trail that feels like an an easy mountain trail in Paris Mountain or even Pisgah Forest. A loop trail of approximately 1/3 mile in length, Fernwood is accessed from Woodland Way near the beach Volleyball Court in Cleveland Park. It follows a nice meandering creek and is frequently used by mountain bikers or people walking their dogs. Markers describe the trees and other flora that help creat the illusion that youre hiking along a secluded mountain trail. Do watch out for poison ivy which is found along sections of the trail. Southern songbirds, playful squirrels, even an occasional raccoon or possum can be seen by the attentive hiker. A fun trail that helps young and old alike appreciate the simple wonders of nature.
