Cool little museum inside!! Really sweet lady working there. Theres fresh water outside from a yard hydrant, if you have an RV(or thirsty dog).

Pretty nice inside but a little empty. Beautiful views and clean bathrooms. The trees outside need to be trimmed so people dont run into them while walking in. Even the shortest people in my party had to duck or go around.

They were closed went I stopped by, but Im sure they would have been very helpful if they had been open. The rest of the park seemed to be open. The lava flowes are interesting, and go on for miles. Native American lore says the lava is really blood from some old god or warrior dude, but I have my doubts. Ive seen lava elsewhere, and this looks the same.

Good place to watch an 8 minute video about the history of El Malpais. Talk to the ranger and get a map to help you plan your viewing and or hiking experience.

Very knowledgeable and helpful ranger on staff when we stopped in. He gave us a history of the park and the surrounding area. He also dug out old maps to obtain the grid-magnetic declination for our compass.
