One of the most serene and relaxing places in the area. Beautiful and eclectic garden composed of trees and plants that Captain Shinn found while sailing the world, and he brought back as seeds. The whole plot has a magical feeling and Im grateful that its been preserved and is so easily accessible
Nice place to walking and enjoying different beautiful season!
Nice little park thats quiet and has a lot of shade. Great for picnics or for taking a break. There are many interesting trees and plants grown here as well.
Nice little walk around the grounds. Beautiful plants and Butterflies.
Nice calm place in the neighborhood. Not too huge though.
Never disappoints! Always a gorgeous backdrop for a picnic, Sunday stroll, or photo shoot!
Small, quiet and off the main drag. Ive never been to the Arboretum, just to the small playground thats there. Its usually empty, or nearly so, so its relaxing for me to let my kids do their thing. There is, however, a gap in the fence that leads to a busy street (Peralta Blvd.) and Im not a huge fan of that. But for being within walking distance, its not a bad little park.
A piece of history in the suburbs, the Historic Shinn House & Arboretum in Fremont is a hidden gem. The Shinn family owned farmland. There are certain days and times when the home is open to visitors and tours. Check their schedule before you go. Admission was $5. It is a beautiful Victorian home and garden decked out for the holidays. My docent was informative. I got a good feel for life in the past. I saw a curling iron for womens hair and an ironing board and iron for chores. Everything was handmade so well back in the day. The furniture is finely crafted. There are many family quilts and clothes on display. I learned about hair art. It is much easier to understand American history if you see it in person.
Quaint. No restroom access on June 13, 2020
This is a beautifully maintained park. Its small, but very serene and a great place to have a picnic with your family.
We took the tour of the Shinn House with the volunteer/docent Judy Peterson. She gave us detailed explanations of the house, when & how it was built & extended, the people that loved there and how their lives must have been with the technological limits and cultural mores of those times. My kids loved it and its a great way to spark interest in the history of the Bay Area.
A very charming little garden, birds singing, very relaxing place.
Absolutely beautiful, authentic house of the mid 1800s. So many interesting details Id like to tour this treasure many times. The garden was interesting, even in January. A super knowledgeable fellow gave us an information packed tour. He had a great passion for history.
A treasure tucked away. So green and fragrant here. I came to a wedding here
Not much to do there unless it is open
Simply beautiful place. Leave your phone in the car and go sit in the shade of a tree...on actual grass. Be in the moment
Lovely park. Historic building in Fremont.
Absolutely beautiful landscaping ️ There is a massive tree with large roots. Love it.
Its one of the oldest parks in Fremont, California. Rural Park but its a quiet place to relax!
Hidden gem! Great for family pictures and small picnics in Spring time frame.
Good place to take pictures. Red Barn is a great background. Fountain is a good anchor. Same goes for the Japanese garden. Dont forget the rose garden right outside the fence. Lots of interesting spots to use for picture taking. Highly recommended.
Love love this place!, Great park to just relax and read a book, have a small picnic, and bring my kids and just explore!
Wonderful local history...learned alot
Beautiful Place
Cute little park in a housing area. My son had cooking class there in the Spring.
This is a little hidden gem in Fremont and i love it! It needs some tlc and i understand they are doing a complete renovation! Some flowers need to be watered kind of disappointed but i know it is being redone and it will be absolutely fabulous! Not just a venue but much more for wedding parties, picnics in the park, meditation...watch for upcoming reviews soon!
The dosen was knowledgeable and friendly. The shinn house a wonderful place to bring children to learn about the history of the shinn family and their contribution to the area.
Pretty place ! .. may get crowded sometimes.
Nice small green park. Quiet and less crowded.
This is a lovely quiet place to walk around by yourself or with kids. The grounds are not very extensive, but there is a picnic table surrounded by grass, as well as several landscaped areas with different plants. The rose garden by the parking lot is beautiful, too. For people with kids, there is a small playground right across the street.
Lovely park with large Victorian home (house is only open for tours twice a month but grounds are open everyday) that is free to visit and free parking. There is a small Japanese garden, but the real attractions are finding the plaques on the large trees that are specimens from around the world. The australian fig is the most impressive with its massive root system, but dont miss going to the back of the property either and touching the cork oak trees. Very nice for a stroll, plus there is a large grassy area with a few picnic benches too.
I was referred by a friend to go see what a mature Bald Cypress looks like. There are two impressive specimens on the property. There are several other mature trees worth seeing. Including several large Cork Oaks and Illinois Pecans. But the most notable was a giant Magnolia with huge octopus-like roots. And there are many more under-story trees and shrubs worth seeing. Definitely worth checking out if youre in the neighborhood.
Grass renovation is done, looks great!
Lovely grounds, and great tour. Every time we go through the place we learn something new (or is that something old anew?).
Beautiful cozy park. Great place if you want to avoid crowds which are present in other parks.
This is a small and intimate park. It has a very old and vintage look. Great for small group picnics. I actually came here a few times, theres always an event for weddings, baby showers, etc. They have a Red Barn which brings a country atmosphere, great for photography.
Historic house you can tour. Beautiful gardens to enjoy and relax in.picinic tables to eat lunch at. A nice get away from the busy city.
This is a tiny little park that is easy to miss. It is also one of the most photogenic spots in the Bay Area. As a photographer I frequently bring people there for all kinds of photo shoots and no matter what the weather is like you can walk away with fantastic photos. Just remember to bring a flash with you because most of the park is heavily shaded.
Good place for photography
Quiet small place amidst of Bay area
There are plenty of shades aand parking. The park is?big and clean.
My family comes through the garden at Shine Park all the time. Not only is it a great Pokemon GO stop, but the historic buildings and historic tools displayed around the property is amazing. My kids have been here on field trips and we have been invited to weddings here. Thanks to the volunteers for keeping up on the property.
Great place to go for a quick walk or take pictures. Nice place for wedding.
A little oasis in the city. A great place to have lunch and get away from it all. Theres benches for sitting in the garden and enough privacy for those times when you just want some solitude.
A small historic park good for small group get together. Also the vintage shinn house can be rented for weddings. There is a tour every first Wednesday.
The photographer took us to this park for some pictures with our twins. Really beautiful area with an old farm house, huge trees, nice flowers and a fountain.
I love this place and have fond memories of walking with my mom and just looking at all the wonderful plants! I love visiting it and looking forward to going back!! :)
Great peaceful place that has many different areas for kids to climb and explore from giant fig tree roots to the japanese garden including a rock river. We love it
Its my favorite place, which has a lovely beautiful Japanese garden, a significant huge ficus tree, and vivid roses area, in Fremont, CA
Nice cute charming garden. Also a little play area for kids just outside the garden on Peralta Blvd. Not much activities but good for a calm walk.
Beautiful historic and free to walk around.
If you like taking walks they have a cemented sidewalk that surrounds the lake there are many different ducks and animals to see that surround the walk that you take around the small Lake if you have a dog perfect for the dog to take the dog on a walk with you of course you need to use your dog leash Ive been going to this park since I was a little kid I like it and if you feel like grabbing your fish and Paul you can fish there as well theres another Lake that connects to it right next door to Shin pond
Attended a wedding here. The building was closed and only used as a backdrop. Didnt notice anything special other than the house. The area is rather small and hard to spot from the street.
Small park with a section like Japanese garden...Okay for one time visit.

It is a small park that looks like a farm House in the middle of a suburb. It is a very tranquil place.
Beautiful place
Small but pretty. It has a small Japanese garden.
A hidden jewel!
Japanese theme gardens, beautiful old trees from all over the world, many of them 150 year old
For those that enjoy historical preservation and the stories behind them, this is one to add to the list.
